Snow C.A.T. Live!

I'm not crazy about corporation crowd funding either. In a perfect world they would put their big boy pants on and be confident with what they're selling and at what price, but if it's the only way...

Here's the visual of the numbers from geekdadlife. I didn't begin to feel somewhat confident about Flint until yesterday morning.

Chiming in as well on the sudden drop right at the end. That is fishy. It basically dropped 1000 backers in a minute once the funding period ended. I know they charge cards and whatnot, but it seems to me it fits in with the sudden increase that got the Bivouac unlocked.

Anyway, I'll try and avoid anymore conspiracy theories and just be happy that it funded with all the tiers unlocked.

Remember that thing I said about Hasbro manipulating the numbers for just long enough to get people confident enough to go in on it? Nah, that'd never happen.

I haven't been following but here's to those 11th hour big-corporation-croud-fund "miracles".

It's easy (and correct) to be skeptical. But it's worth noting that this isn't only something that happens with big corporation crowd-funds. The last few days of most crowdfunds, going all the way back to Boss Fight's first Kickstarter when they started up as a company, almost always have similar big surges. You're almost guaranteed with projects like this to get like half of your backers in the first day and the last day.

So if I'm looking at the chart right, it was 5069 backers on day 1, and 5.095 backers on the last day. The last day bump always boggles my mind.

Yeah, every crowdfunding project has last day drops/drops right after they charge the card. It' a huge drop but would I believe that a thousand people combined had some combination of used an expired/maxed out card/ entered their security code wrong/had a change of heart and canceled last minute/wife found out they just spent $325 on a toy etc etc etc. People are wishy washy, weird, and bad with money in many combinations.

I also absolutely hate corporate crowdfunding. They could do this as made to order with a minimum ("If we do not get at least X orders we will not make this product") and it'd be less ridiculous to me - they have they money, they don't need to reinvent Kickstarter. I'm skeptical about actual companies doing Kickstarters, too, but I know a lot of game publishers do it because they simply don't have the cash on hand to get something big started, so I have a lot more grace for them. Hasbro's a big boy, they don't need to do this. If this were their last Haslab for Classified I'd be just fine with it.

I do think character selection played a part into the struggles here, and I say that as someone for whom Flint and Lady Jaye are some of my favorite characters. Winter gear isn't super must-have and we've got multiple great Flint figures (*side eye at having to rebuy LJ several times to get one that didn't have borked ROM*). The Rattler a) was a flying vehicle to mirror the Dragonfly so collectors might have decided one flying vehicle per faction, need to balance their collection, b) Wild Weasel is popular and likely not getting him another way soon, and also that figure is sexy AF, c) army builder! and d) the Baroness is arguably an improvement on the existing one, a beloved character, and NOT tied to her life partner being in the same Haslab so there wasn't a sort of emotional reactiveness to unlocking one without the other. Hot Spy Lady was the final tier, and that's a bit of a motivator, yeah?

I am both glad this funded with all tiers and hope they stop it with HasLabs. Go retail. Go MTO. Go cheaper. Bells and whistles need not apply.

Regarding the drops, assuming Hasbro was goosing numbers to drum up excitement - why back them out publicly?

That's actually a good point. If they were goosing the numbers, they don't have to tell US that. They could just acknowledge them internally and we'd be none the wiser.

One of the best parts of a crowd fund or Kickstarter is the entertaining internet chatter it creates. What are we going to talk about for the next 12-14 months?

Now it is back up to 16,437.

Gotta love the wild fluctuations in the day or two after funding ends. Let's see if it sticks.

Snow Cat funds. Unlocks all tiers. Follows same pattern as all Haslabs and crowdfunding toy projects (big opening day, lull in the middle, big last day). Now come conspiracy theories and anti-corporate rants. Sigh.

It is notable that despite unlocking all tiers this campaign came in around half of the Rattler. This is a different result. Now we speculate wildly as to why because no one will ever truly know.

Well, I don't think it's a big mystery. The Snow Cat just isn't as appealing as the previous vehicles.

Rattler 26,903
HISS 26,762
Dragonfly 19,397
Snow Cat 15,743

This seems about right in terms of popularity. Except for I would assume the HISS would sell more than the Rattler. But in terms of popularity of vehicles, this pattern seems about right.
