Truth. Rachel is the best phoenix. Fight me.
 
I loved Rachel as Phoenix, though I wouldn't go so far as to call her "better". Way back when I was a wee lad, Jean had bravely died as the Phoenix, and back then it really didn't seem like she was going to come back from the dead (even though she would have been the one it would make the most sense to do so, based on her being...y'know...a Phoenix and all). Back then, death wasn't like it is now in comics, where it's really more like a flu that knocks you out of commission for a few weeks. Bucky had been dead for decades, Uncle Ben was dead forever, Gwen Stacey had a clone show up, but it was clear she WASN'T the real Gwen, Thunderbird died early on the X books, and he stayed that way...in other words, death mattered and when someone died it wasn't reversed a few issues later. Rachel stepping into the role as Phoenix was a big deal, as she was taking up the mantle from her "mother", and carrying on the legacy for a character who was no longer around. She had her own personality, and really made for a very different version of Phoenix. Jean is one of my favorite X characters, just a notch below Nightcrawler and probably tied with Storm, so for me to love Rachel in the role is saying something. I don't think she is "better", but she is absolutely fantastic as Phoenix on her own merits.
 
I am not that versed in Rachel so I will ask you.

Do the wings go with the hound head, or are those two different looks? Is the hound head from the future before she projected herself backwards?

The hound costume was showcased with and without the wings. She took on many forms when she was possessed by the Phoenix, especially after Rachel hooked up with the Beyonder for a while and her connection to the Phoenix force gained a whole bunch of new properties when the two characters…intermingled….

This shows a lack of spirit. Toughen your soul so you can have the correct opinion in future ;)

I kid, I kid. I think Rachel feels more native to being a phoenix host than Jean. For Jean it was a problem to solve, for Rachel, it's simply part of who she is at this point.

The Hound tattoos are technically always on her IIRC, but she often uses her powers to hide them. They frequently show when her powers flare.

I'll be honest I haven't kept up much with X-Men in the modern era, but I thought there was a fair amount of interest in the Krakoa stuff? I read that first House of X/Powers of X series and it seemed really interesting if pretty weird. There were a lot of concepts I thought sounded cool at least, even if the Moira retcon was nonsense.

I think at first people were excited but then it started to get away from itself within the first two years and just became this runaway train of meandering plot lines and retcon after retcon after retcon and people were pretty fed up with how Colossus and Beast became the Machiavellian level bad guys and how some of the X-Men’s most quintessential villains became heroes.
