G.I. Joe Classified Series: The Chatty Pointless Thread & Performance Art

Got the latest wave in from Pulse.

Sci-fi is great. Love the armor, helmet with the full face shield, and the laser rifle. The last effect looks very cool.

Mainframe is a lot of fun with all the equipment! I’m glad that he can hold all his gear at the same time. Very cool to have two heads.

Wetsuit is really nice. I never had the original, but a friend of mine did. Nice to finally get this guy. Kind of hard to get him to hold that big motorized swimming device.

Grim Viper is actually the star of the show! Amazing for a repaint. I love his larger and more muscular build. He’s like a Cobra version of Crossbones. Maybe the SAW Viper should have been this big. The more realistic style military colors work really well for a Cobra. And the white skull faceplate and yellow eyes really pop against the camouflaged body.

I love the nostalgic figures, but sometimes these new characters like Grim Viper and Ghost Viper are the most exciting.

I thought v2 Viper was Python Patrol? Isn't the purple Viper v4?

v2 Alley Viper is where it's at for me. The little tiger stripes on the legs. The snake mask and snake shield. The colors. That is just a fuckin' superior action figure if ever there was one.

I've said this before but even for as spoiled as I was (and I was) I couldn't really convince anyone in my family to let me buy the same figures more than once. So I treated most figures as individual specialists rather than troopers. Otherwise I had to play the game of pretending this one figure represents 10 people. I did that sometimes, but not very often.

With BATs, I actually treated them as individual experiments rather than army builders. So to me the v2 BAT is -the- BAT. He's the only one. Until Overkill shows up, but he's a whole other story (a story that Doc needs to write).

Nah you’re right, I think we got carried away with v2 *sculpts* as opposed to releases there.

Hard same!
The only “army building” I did as a kid was when someone accidentally gave me an extra Stormtrooper or two in the heyday of Star Wars. Army building would have been *unthinkable* as a kid.

Yeah I guess that's why a) I love army building vipers and troopers now and b) why all the specialized Vipers are so easy to treat as unique individuals now.

I also was never an army builder, but I think it was my choice? Maybe my parents mind-tricked me, but if the choice was a second trooper and an all-new figure I went all-new all-the-time. And in the 80s with my $3/week there was always something I didn't have waiting for me on the shelves.

I managed to get two Snow Serpents back in the day. It was fun to have an “army”! But that was the only trooper I ever had more than one figure of.

I’d love to get a Sonic Fighters Viper in Classified. I loved that vibrant red visor and golden armor.

Sonic Fighters Viper would look pretty slick in Classified on the new Retro Viper body.

Both, yeah. It makes it easy to just see every figure as an individual, but also getting to army build is like a special treat for your inner child. I have two Night Creepers and THREE Snow Serpents for that exact reason. And a bunch of Stormtroopers in Black Series.

SF Viper is totally on my short list. Fantastic colors. They’ve got to have it on their short list as well: super easy layup of a release that folks will love. They even have the mortar set now from Short-Fuze to give him with a few other guns.

Feels like they've toned down on the "store everything" thing. Which I found VERY entertaining at the beginning, but am less enthused by now. OG Hawk, Flint, Cover Girl... actuallly a lot of the retros don't bother with the fiddly storage thing. I appreciate when they give you the option (like Wetsuit's flippers) but I don't need it on every figure, especially army builders who might come with swappable guns n such.

I want all three of the Talking Battle Commanders variants SO bad. Those were MY versions of Hawk and Stalker, and Overkill was awesome.
Whoa you mean FOUR.

Because Talking Battle Commander Cobra Commander NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
