Tracking toy tariffs

How do you think people should be reacting? I'm not trying to dogpile or instigate. I'm genuinely asking.

".

There’s a line between having rational complaints about a ridiculous tariff situation (and rapid 145% tariffs are ridiculous) and several comments about how people should be killed or die in this thread alone. Let alone the other vitriol.

This shit is all over toy social media. The tariffs are a real issue and they’re gonna really hurt or hobby and hurt people’s livelihood, but saying that people need to die or be killed?

It’s not like it’s even just from the tariffs. The amount of Luigi memes and other calls for death I’ve seen since before “liberation” day was already disturbing to me and since the tariffs it’s just gotten worse.

...because there is zero regard for OUR lives. Why on God's green Earth should we give or have any consideration for theirs?

Donald Trump is evil incarnate. Quite literally, he is one of the worst people by every measure to walk this Earth. He cares about no one but himself. He is vain, he is narcissistic. He has zero redeeming qualities. He is petty, and vindictive, and revels is inflicting pain in others. He is on record as having raped his now deceased ex-wife. The ex-wife whom he buried on his shitty golf course, whose grave he doesn't take care of, mind you. He is a multiple time adulterer.

And he is doing things to actively harm this country. Knowingly hurting people, costing jobs, costing homes, raising pharmaceutical prices on people who are on budgets and who will die without their medications. He emboldens racists, and openly regurgitate their rhetoric.

If there is anyone who is up to be a candidate for no longer gracing us with their presence, it is easily him.

too often I feel like self-labeling as a 'centrist' is for people too chickenshit to hold any strong opinions. or a way to let people know 'yeah everybody on either side of me is nuts, I'm the only sane, un-ideological one here.' sorry if I can't recognize your bravery.

one of my main, uh, 'centrist' opinions is to not advocate violence but that does mean one has to recognize the conditions that make others more inclined to violence, e.g. decline in living standards, increase in cost of living (i.e. non-action figure stuff) buttressed by massive inequalities.

(this might be a topic for the other Politics thread)

One other item from the opening minutes of the podcast with Bobby. His co-host noted Super7's site adds 8% to in-stock purchases including items that were in stock well before tariffs.

I hear you.

I don't like it, either. It's worth interrogating how we got here, though. If you couldn't afford life-saving medication, you might call your insurer, your health care provider, or your elected representative. They'd all wish you well and do nothing to help you. This exact situation plays out daily in the U.S. Most people either go into debt or forgo treatment. One in a million, like the CEO killer, turn to violence.

Violence gives voice to the voiceless. There are very few people on this planet who start with violence. It's the last resort.

Politically, we're just as helpless. Our costs are going up. The U.S. is gutting the regulations that give us safe drinking water and clean air. The U.S. is criminalizing trans life. The U.S. is sending immigrants away to a foreign gulag without trial. If the normal means were working (i.e., calling your representatives, impeaching the president for ignoring the Bill of Rights), they'd be happening. People are getting more desperate.

If you're a "Centrist" like Bobby Vala who owns a business that is being nailed by tariffs that were originally outlined in Project 2025 and you still voted for Trump, you absolutely deserve it.

"Don't talk about politics in the comments thread about tariffs!" China tariffs were specifically mentioned in Project 2025.

The playbook was right there out in the open, for everyone to see. Trump was not the Centrist or Libertarian choice.

Y'know, I hate to see how much we're thinking of violence (I always think of myself as the world's angriest pacifist) but I do think we've pushed the common person so close to the edge of desperation that the people who are doing the abusing have no idea how close to violence people are. Especially when we see how ineffective civility has been.

I don't want to see violence happen. And statistically it's less effective than peaceful solutions. But when the healthcare CEO assassination happened, I swear, if people in power had ANY COMMON SENSE AT ALL, they would have seen how little sympathy he got and started considering their actions. But instead they double, triple, quadruple down. I worry about what happens when violence becomes the only optoin. Because we sure as hell don't HAVE to push it that far. FFS, these guys have abused society for our entire lives and gotten very fat and rich off of it. The pestilence of their greed is the problem. Just be happy already being richer and more powerful than everyone else and you don't need to choke out society to get even richer.

On the actual tariffs though - Pulse added a "lock in your preorder price" line at the top of the page today with the May the 4th stuff. Reckon Hasbro has some tariff-related price increases incoming any day now. IIRC they said lock in prices before May 9. So... get your toys now I guess?

I'm sure most of you have read "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens.

I think we may be headed for A Tale of Two Cities moment.

Violence diminishes everyone involved in the violence. It’s not just a last resort, it’s a “break glass in case of emergency” resort.

We are 100% in an emergency right now.

That’s really all I can say about that.
Man, I really thought I was pithy then you have to come along and say it way better. Psh. Just psh.

Take one glance through platforms like Bluesky and Threads and you will see how close we actually are. More than ever in our lifetimes. People outwardly and openly hinting at something happening soon, giving veiled threats, giving specific dates (June 14th, his military birthday parade).

I have no doubts in my mind that something will go off that day. And frankly, that will be the only thing to wake many up.

Nothing in historical significance has ever been accomplished without violence. Sadly. You don't have to like it, but that's a fact.

If anyone wants to start making and selling guillotines in the US, they might make a killing, in a manner of speaking.
Debt because the aristocracy and church would not pay taxes?

Check.

Debt due to foreign wars?

Check.

Religious control over government policy?

Check.

Runaway prices and shortages for goods and food?

Coming real soon.

Nationwide protests?

Check.

Most Americans having sympathy for Mangione instead of the greedy ass CEO?

We are ready for our Bastille moment.
