NECA - General Thread

NECA didn't participate in the earlier Geek-Out this year and they didn't have anything in the Fall one last year. Their event is Haulathon. There was one in April this year, and for some reason I'm having trouble remembering if they typically do one in the Fall as well.

I LOVE the Metaluna Mutant. I'm going to boldly claim that he is my favorite Neca Universal monster figure. The torso articulation is fantastic and feels like real torso movement when it is moving.

Maybe it is just the beer goggles I'm wearing right now but he is awesome. Anybody else got him yet?

True story. I was a very sheltered little boy and my friend Chris came over for a sleepover in 5th grade and brought a Spaceballs VHS and my mother said it didn't sound appropriate to her and I still haven't to this day seen Spaceballs.

It looks like NECA did participate in the Fall Geek-Out in 2023 though. I'm really having to piece together the history of this thing.

EDIT: Okay, you know what? It looks like they DID have stuff in last year's Fall Geek-Out. I thought I'd found a complete list, but TNI's got articles from September saying stuff like B&W Count Orlok, Totally 80s Alf, and some Planet of the Apes figures all dropped during it. What isn't clear to me is if they were part of the "official" drops or just kinda released at the same time.

I have a really great response to this but it requires you seeing the movie.

Ugh.

I zoomed in and broke out my readers...I can see it now. Damn though...it's really hard to see!

Yeah, the 4H figures are probably the best, but they have a lot of armor that I don't associate with Krampus. The Fresh Monkey Fiction ones are okay...the two Santa suited variants aren't really my minds-eye of Krampus, but the "Nasty Krampus" is a bit better. I don't mind the booted feet, since some Krampus players in Alpine countries just use boots instead of hooves. Technically, you could have a Krampus with either two human-style feet, two hooves, or one foot and one hoof, since all are valid depictions. In my mind, since a Krampus is a type of creature, not a singular being, having some variety in the bodies and limbs is acceptable.

Still, I would really love to see a 1:12 or 1:10 figure that skewed more towards the traditional Alpine beast look. Big, shaggy, horned monster with a few chains and a basket. No armor, or even clothing, is really needed. I know John St. John originally planned to have a Krampus in his Creatureplica line, and if it was based on some of the statues he did, it would have been fantastic. With the Krampus tradition getting more and more known in the US (even if there are LOTS of misconceptions about it), I have to think we'll eventually see some toy company do a truly cool, traditional Krampus.

Hey, I had to really zoom in on that picture, and put my reading glasses on, to even remotely see it. I can imagine if I had the actual figure in hand that I'd be breaking out a magnifying glass to see it. Getting old sucks.
You know, looking at my collection, if you really wanted a classic looking Krampus, The Howling werewolf would probably be a pretty good place to start, if you could handle him being a bit overly tall. Throw on some hooves, a tail & find a new head & it would fit the bill nicely.

There's a November Haulathon is there not? It all blends together in my head, but I'm certain we still get another big drop of stuff before Christmas.
