NECA - General Thread

@docsilence That makes total sense! And a nice way to limit yourself as well! I guess I just go for what I like really. "That's neat" and such heh. but stuff like Pennywise, IT was one of the few horror movies in the last 20 years I genuinely enjoyed. I'm not nearly the horror movie fan my wife is (and it's really a good thing she doesn't collect figures because there'd be SO much Neca here) and really only like certain things. I'm not as into body horror, unless you count American Werewolf heh. I don't like torture porn or any of Eli Roth's work, yet I'm a fan of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre AND the remake with R Lee Ermey. But that, IT, and the Conjuring movies are the only horror stuff I've enjoyed this century, and the Conjuring movies are more because I enjoy Ed and Lorraine as a couple. And IT, was really because of the kid cast. yeah, I'm just not much of a horror person, so it's kinda weird I collect any.

Man, I LOVE body horror. It's killing me that NECA isn't doing anything with The Thing anymore. I badly need to know if they let the license go, or if they are still working on more. And I'm very much hoping that the release of the Ben Cooper The Fly figure hints at them having a wider license for that movie as well.

AW JESUS!

I'm heavily shamed now because The Thing is my favorite horror movie of all time and haven't mentioned it at all, but I never thought of it as body horror. They just did the dog recently didn't they? Or I guess it's been a couple years now, ugh. I came really close to getting that and the Predator from Prey, but instead sold all my McFarlane Things as well as the dog and kennel playset that SOTA did years ago. It was when I first decided to stop collecting things from movies because I like the movie rather than collecting things from movies because I like the way it looks.

Okay, shit, I think I just talked myself out of Beetlejuice and maybe What We Do In The Shadows. Maaaaaaaybe Pennywise heh.

The Dog Thing is, sadly, at LEAST a couple years old now. I remember a throwaway line from a con walkthrough shortly before it came out about "more critters", but I feel like we'd have seen SOMEthing by now if they were doing anything. Then again, they still seem to have the Gremlins license even though they do like one release a year (I NEED my damned Vegetable Gremlin!!). It seems crazy they didn't even do the spider-head from The Thing though.

@cmoney Well, what have they done? The dog and a lot of MacReady?

Just for fun, and maybe leading to some frustration, the Things they could do are:
Norris on the table
Norris spider head
Palmer
Bennings
Blair
Split Face Thing
and Windows I guess.

It would be kinda cool if they did some from the crazy Swede camp. Maybe an actual physical version of some of those designs could make them cooler. Or even some of the 'deleted' practical effects versions of the creatures.

Yep, they've done like four Macs and the Dog Thing. And a con exclusive figure of the poster image.

Of course, all of those you list are big wants. And then you get to the idea of the "deleted" practicals from (I assume you mean?) the prequel and approach my biggest pipe dream: the pilot alien from that movie that they built and then didn't even use AT ALL in the final film. This one:

The Thing seems like one they can kind of come and go with and still sell pretty well. They don't have to wait to tie it in to any anniversary or anything like that, but also, due to, what I assume is a large amount of unique parts, they may not be able to do it as often as they like. I don't know how well the Dog Thing did or didn't sell- I know it went on sale a few places, even to Target's ebay page. It's a really fun figure, but definitely an odd piece- takes up room, has some not-so-fun assembly required. Human-wise, I think they could at least get some mileage out of Childs, and maybe Blair.

All this got me thinking- did the Krampus figures ever come out? I feel like I remember them starting to hit a few places, but haven't heard anything since, and my pre-orders keep getting pushed back. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they're just waiting until the holidays to release them.

The Krampus itself at least has, I've seen people around who have gotten it from smaller shops weeks ago. But it hasn't hit any of the big places like BBTS or EE yet that I know of. I've had it on pre-order for ages.

Gremlins (the first time, and then especially Gremlins 2) is what got me into NECA, and then I started branching out from there. Focused largely on the horror stuff, but also TMNT once they started going whole-hog there. I also really love the Toony Terrors stuff, but those releases have slowed a lot for me both as they seem to do fewer of them and as they focus more on newer modern properties.
Gremlins: one of my favorite movies, but anything remotely life size in my house would give me the creeps. (although actually if NECA made 1/12 scale gremlins I could use for pics with other lines and have them terrorize, like, the Avengers? I'd buy a whole set of those.) And I'm SUPER into body horror, I use a ton of it in my RPG games and writing--actually, now that I think of it, I'd be more inclined to have a body horror monster in the house than a killer clown or small, creepy monster.

Lil creepy monsters - love stories about them, just don't like them in the house, probably because I like stories about them so much I'm afraid a doll is going to come to life and kill me in my sleep. A friend gave me a plush Pathfinder goblin a few years back and I have no idea where to put it in the house.

While the NECA Gremlins are great figures. I think some at 1/12-1/10 scale would be fantastic. They could be sold in multipacks. They could get a lot of mileage out of them with reuse too. At the very least, a multipack with some accessories would be great.

So you wouldn't buy this guy.....

In all seriousness: love that movie, would be scared shitless to have that in my house.

As a kid I had a fistful of what would today be 1/12 scale gremlins and mogwai, absolutely played with those things to death, 10/10 would buy modern versions. I would need to be sedated to have a gremlin bigger than a Marvel Legends figure in the house though.

I have all the Gremlins I need except for a mogwai and gremlin version of Mohawk. Now if they could get the rights to Ghoulies, that would be another expense I can't afford, but need to have.
