At this point, MAGA in general is either too indoctrinated and clueless or else too outright malevolent to live peacefully alongside in society, regardless of outcome, and I really don’t know what to do with or about that.
Biden had the chance to fix this. Same with Reconstruction.
You have to make it so shameful to support MAGA that no one ever admits to it again. Some of it will happen naturally. They're about to shove the economy off the side of a cliff. Clear violations of the Bill of Rights—especially stuff targeted at white men like Jimmy Kimmel—will piss people off. As much as our elites have capitulated, we're still the country of the Boston Tea Party. Other toxically unpopular policy, like killing vaccine mandates, will turn more normies against them.
Part two is torching the MAGA legacy. Destroy every policy victory. Remove their judges. By the end, there should be nothing to look back on.
Part three is the most important: prosecute, prosecute, prosecute. There shouldn't be a single MAGA advisor, ICE agent, or politician who gets by unscathed. Make an example. Vance is gleefully celebrating war crimes on camera. Put his ass on trial. Cover them in the stink of their failure. Every single one should be branded a criminal.
It would've been easier to deal with this in 1993 than 2009. It would've been easier to deal with this in 2009 than 2021. It would've been easier to deal with this in 2021 than 2029. At some point, you have to stop kicking the can down the road. The next president will have the most important job in this country since at least Lincoln.
I don't see anything getting even slightly resolved in our lifetime
It's possible. I have to believe it will burn out quickly.
1) Dear Leader is OLD.
2) Dear Leader is unpopular.
3) Can you imagine a scenario in which New York City puts up with this for another 10 years? 50? How about the West Coast? Once they put the Constitution to the torch, there's little binding the states to the union.
The Third Reich was supposed to last 1000 years. Ask the Germans how it's going now.
We are literally still dealing with indoctrination and beliefs that vary from 300 years old to 2,000 years old. We never wipe it clean.
No, we never do. A strongman always finds a way to accumulate power. A complacent populace always puts its faith in the wrong person.
As the saying goes, "Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times."
We can't win, but we can beat back the darkness for a lifetime. We can unrig our representation. We can warn future generations about what happened. We can make it harder for this to happen again.
It's all cyclical. It's been downhill since Roe v. Wade in 1973. We're due for a win. To finish the quote: Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times.
We never learn from it. We just tell ourselves we 'won' for a little while until the same beliefs and same problems and same psychotic losers pop up again like the universe's most fucked up version of whack-a-mole. Until, eventually, they'll win. Because THEY are the only side with the actual desire to wipe out the opposition completely.
Hasn't happened yet.
Saw a discussion on Threads where people are making the obvious equivalences to 1984, Fahrenheit, Animal Farm. Whatever helps.
But of course in come the high and mighty ethical intellectuals telling everyone hey, if we're going to be protesting Trump and conservative America, maybe let's not use all these authors who were anti-communists, pro cop, whatever, you know all the buzzwords at this point. "Actually, that makes you worse than them," actual quote.
And it's like... Come on. You've got some people getting their first hit of that radicalization joint. So instead you're just going to gatekeep them with how much cooler and ethically superior you are. I have seen this for years in every group and it just infuriates me because that's how people end up on the other side. You have bullied them right out of the space they were sniffing out.
Big-time loser shit.
