U.S. Politics

With a name like Gomez and a complexion that's close to mine, maybe she shouldn't be throwing these ideas around.
It's a tale as old as time, unfortunately- people who jump ship to the other side so as to seem like "one of the good ones", not realizing that, if it comes down to it, their "fearless leader" will do the exact same thing to them that they did to the others without a moment's hesitation. They're a means to an end, not an exception to the rule. And not that I necessarily wish that upon her, but all I'm saying is I wouldn't be opposed to her having a moment of realization before it all comes crashing down.

I just had a discussion about this with a coworker, who is Mexican, about her supervisor making statements about not wanting Mexicans here... And he is of Mexican descent! But worshipping Trump is a magical race changer. Right? ...right?

My position is still that this administration is pushing too hard, too fast.
My heart wants to believe this.

My gut is skeptical.

But my all-too-educated head knows this:
At this point, MAGA in general is either too indoctrinated and clueless or else too outright malevolent to live peacefully alongside in society, regardless of outcome, and I really don’t know what to do with or about that.

Like seriously: at this point, no one who is MAGA should be near children, especially their own. The grooming is disgusting and horrifying and we will spend generations trying to wipe it clean.

Exactly. I don't see anything getting even slightly resolved in our lifetime. At least in something like, say, the Civil War, the losing side at least tucked their tail between their legs and went back to their bubbles. Yeah, they weren't likely to really learn anything and grow, but at least their hatred and vitriol was relatively contained. Even though there is, like with the Civil War, a pretty clear divide between right and wrong, both sides think they're in the right, and both are too proud to admit wrong (even if, again, one side is pretty clearly more wrong).

Nowadays, there's no escape from it- everyone wants to feel heard, and it's kinda lose-lose. Some people lash out more the more they get heard. Some people lash out more the less they get heard, but either way, they'll make their opinion known. And from there, there are people you'll never look at the same way again. I suppose you could say ignorance is bliss in that regard- a sort of "don't ask, don't tell". But I'd say that mattered more in a time when politics weren't everything. There are pros and cons to knowing where someone stands and not knowing. Me? I think I'd rather know, just so there are no surprises later. Up until MAGA, even if someone was pretty staunchly against a lot of the things I believed in, I'd still treat them with the benefit of the doubt; same can be said for a very select few MAGA folks- mostly family, but even then, it's....tough. Even where I live in NY, which is pretty darn liberal, there's more and more pockets of hatred popping up, including smack dab where I live, which has been disappointing to say the least.

Took me a while to learn to fully trust people, and I think I've more or less dipped back into that. But hey, at least it's familiar and there are no surprises.

We -won't- wipe it clean. At some point, we have to accept that and figure out what to do from there.

We are literally still dealing with indoctrination and beliefs that vary from 300 years old to 2,000 years old. We never wipe it clean. These beliefs and hatreds and perceived hurts just compile and compile and merge with each other to become something newer and uglier every hundred years. We fight a war or have a schism, and the loser hides amongst us and festers. Civil War Confederates kept their estates, joined the Union government, and started the processes of basically every classist and racist system still in use today. We beat the Nazis, and they all ran off to South Africa, or Argentina, or hid in France, or didn't hide at all and joined the US government (I'm seeing a trend here). And look, we beat the Nazis but they are still very much here and proud and about to help destroy the countries that 'beat' them.
We never learn from it. We just tell ourselves we 'won' for a little while until the same beliefs and same problems and same psychotic losers pop up again like the universe's most fucked up version of whack-a-mole. Until, eventually, they'll win. Because THEY are the only side with the actual desire to wipe out the opposition completely.

If any of you have read World War Z...quislings (named after the Norwegian Nazi collaborator). Destined to be destroyed by the very thing they try so desperately to be.

I'd consider her more "3 howler monkeys in a human suit that somehow infiltrated politics", but that's basically the entire administration.
na lizard people!!! 🦎 just look at Trumps hand! totally hiding his lizard scales! :cautious:

I was reading some article in the news where there was shouting going on at a school board, some woman shouted out something to the effect "Republicans are not Nazis!" There wasn't anything about responses. I'm sure someone must have said "Where have you been" or "Haven't you been paying attention lately?"
I will just give one of many examples because I'm sure everyone here has seen the similarities already.

This one didn't hit me at the time but I was just reading up on architect https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_Mies_van_der_Rohe
Long story short he was forced out of work & then Germany because Hitler hated modern buildings.

Saw a discussion on Threads where people are making the obvious equivalences to 1984, Fahrenheit, Animal Farm. Whatever helps.

But of course in come the high and mighty ethical intellectuals telling everyone hey, if we're going to be protesting Trump and conservative America, maybe let's not use all these authors who were anti-communists, pro cop, whatever, you know all the buzzwords at this point. "Actually, that makes you worse than them," actual quote.

And it's like... Come on. You've got some people getting their first hit of that radicalization joint. So instead you're just going to gatekeep them with how much cooler and ethically superior you are. I have seen this for years in every group and it just infuriates me because that's how people end up on the other side. You have bullied them right out of the space they were sniffing out.
