U.S. Politics

The job of a U.S. Supreme Court justice is to interpret the Constitution and federal laws, serve as the final legal authority on cases, and safeguard civil liberties.

One of the most important powers of the Supreme Court is judicial review, which allows justices to declare a legislative or executive act unconstitutional.

Trump's idiotic executive order punishing those who burn the flag with jail time is unconstitutional. Full stop.

IF his puppets on the Supreme Court let him get away with this, then his next abuse of power will be to delay or cancel the midterm elections, followed by a military take over of Washington DC.

And if he does that, then ... and I really, really hate to type this ... there will be a civil war. I don't see anyway around it. I will not live under a dictator.

I was born a free man in a free country. I will die a free man in a free country, or I'll die defending it.

A very sage soul once said "Give me liberty or give me death." I get that. Life without freedom is not a life worth living.

Yesterday was another brain-melting bad-news day. You may recall that SCOTUS gave Trump the ability to fire members of previously independent bodies. The Calvinball court noted that he couldn't touch the Fed. For some unexplained, illogical reason, they are a separate entity beyond even our God King's touch. Well, he's going to try anyway.

How bad could this be? Burning-currency-to-stay-warm bad.

I have concluded that John Roberts is the primary author of American fascism. He was supposed to be a moderate. Instead, he's proudly led us to dictatorship. He isn't some nutty Trump appointee; George W. Bush nominated him. Republicans have always been like this.

Unfortunately I can't post this excellent Bluesky thread (only available to logged in users), but I can quote it:
The president is illegitimate because he's constantly breaking the law. The supreme court is illegitimate because they're enabling him. Pretty straight forward. The only reason this farce continues is the president's accomplices in Congress refuse to remove him and his hacks on the Supreme Court refuse to rule against him. We don't have to pretend that any of this is legitimate just because the veneer of functioning institutions still exists. The president--any public officeholder in fact--isn't legitimate simply because they were legally elected or appointed. They have ongoing obligations. You don't keep a firefighter on the job if he becomes an arsonist.
The path forward is to immediately extralegally reverse every Trump decision, law, and appointment. He is illegitimate.

For the people in the back, Trump just said "I'm the President ot the United States- I can do anything I want" again today. He's been saying it. He's been doing it. I'm not surprised, but like TSI, I do not understand how a rational person can condone it, let alone encourage it. Sunken cost fallacy? Whatever the case, I don't have much hope other than that I live long enough to see our version of the Nuremberg trials.

Hasn't this been the slippery slope argument we've all been making every time he does something wildly illegal and gets away with it? And here's the thing; we're always right. So far every time he's gotten away with doing something illegal, he's immediately done the next level of illegal thing. This shouldn't surprise anyone. And the Supreme Court has ZERO interest in stopping him. It's a majority rule in favor of giving him -more- power. This game was over the second they said presidents can have immunity - which the full understanding Biden was too much of a little bitchpants to use it, and that Trump would ABSOLUTELY use it.
This isn't going to get better if we rely on the Supreme Court to help. They won't.

Just had to basically stuff a sock into my own mouth to stop myself from starting a fight when someone said "someone should ask him what President Miller thinks about that." Fuck man, he's always getting Wormtongued by someone. Whoever tells him he's pretty today gets whatever human rights violations they want. Miller, Musk, Bannon, it's just a laundry list of melted-candle-wax-looking motherfuckers telling him he's dick is huge and getting whatever they want. We don't need someone to ask him what President Whoever Is Licking His Taint This Week says, I half wonder if we need like, Warren Buffet to go in there and tell him he's building a monument in DC to display the size and majesty of the Trump Cock and please sir, while you're admiring it, wouldn't it be great to leave trans people alone and also hey I need more workers to build your giant stone penis so could you cut back on the deportation? They're the best dick sculptors, the very best, nobody can beat them, great workers and then this walking adipose cell of a human being would sign some papers with his baby hands and go get his latest treatment for the fluid building up around his ticker.
