It is probably just that easy but I can't imagine many people willing to go there even for the noblest reasons.

I just can't envision an American Civil War even in the wake of the movie.
Like, modern America. Social media slacktivism America. The America where the people condemning also just turn away. The America where the people that voted and supported him until recently just ignore or deflect.
I'm really not wanting to say people are soft, I just don't see any sort of violent revolution. On a basic level Ukraine and Palestine and any number of places where there are hot spots right now, those people have always lived in some sort of conflict. Those people have always lived in some sort of conflict. They have known violence.
Feel free to paint me an encouraging picture.
I've seen a few videos of people throwing bricks at ICE, and that's fun. However, something I'm always having to explain to other foreigners when they find out I'm an American - and I'm not staying strictly Canadians, but in Canada I meet lots of people from other countries who are curious about America - is that America is big.
There is this idea that America is America. But it's not. It's the Midwest. It's the Southwest. It's the Northeast. It's the West. It's the sunshine belt. It's the Bible belt. All of us are aware that what might fly in Milwaukee does not fly in Racine, which does not fly in Kenosha which does not fly in Chicago. There are too many people that never leave their neighborhood, let alone their city, let alone their state.
All these regions are different and have different beliefs. You can switch politics at whiplash speed just driving through a Midwestern state to get to the more interesting state that you want to go to.
And maybe it's because I've grown up in Europe and then every part of the states at some point in my life, but that was always stuck with me. The people that have never left their area and have outdated stereotypical views of what the rest of America must be like. There are too many people that think the rest of the world idolize is on worships America when any of us international know that's far from the truth.
Even within Beaufort South Carolina, Scottsdale Arizona, Indianapolis Indiana, people just seem to think that there is a coherent view of America.
But it's way too big. So yeah, they're throwing bricks at people in Arizona. What does that do for people in Portland or Seattle. It's such a physically large space and when you consider the logistics of how our populations are laid out and how things work...
Again, someone smarter with a more focused brain than me. Explain how a civil war works in 2025 America.
Break it down like a Warcraft raid strategy for me.

Totally agree. I've lived on both coasts, in the Midwest, and spent significant time in 30-something states and totally agree with you on the varied views, ideals, etc. and always bring up that I feel we should be united states in the same way ancient greece was. If we have to war, we team up, otherwise we all govern ourselves damnit. Maybe not fifty but definitely more than one. But yeah, I don't think anyone in Europe can grasp just how big this country is, and I definitely see that as an issue.

Yeah, there's plenty of ways it could happen, it'll just be fucking disgusting no matter how it happens, even if it's a good clean coup. I can't imagine the military splitting the way it might in a different conflict, either - I feel like anyone in a leadership role who had the balls to stand up for the country has quit or been driven out, so it's all just following orders from here on out. All the 2A guys are cowards anyway, but even if they weren't, drones vs. AR-15s won't go well.
Even if it isn't a full on civil war, even if we try to get back to the status quo, we never will. They showed us how fragile a gentleman's agreement our quasi-civil society actually was, and we'll never trust anyone ever again. But we also won't do anything to safeguard the future, because this country has the spine of a jellyfish.
I used to think Americans would never stand up as long as they were afraid they might not get the next season of their favorite TV show, but now I think a huge swath of Americans are somewhere between rock stupid or so delusional they think nobody REALLY means them THAT much harm
