At this point, I'm surprised he doesn't follow every sentence with a little "tee hee", since he just loooooves being so coy and borderline cutesy with his answers.

I don't know if it's that they don't care - it's a hub or organizations working on projects to help folks out of state and internationally, and one of the teams I work with is actively suing the administration (and was boots on the ground with dealing with that first kidnapping case, the international student who got disappeared). But it's also fuck-you level blue. Even our handful of Republican politicians have to show their bellies to keep their jobs. It may just not be worth it--zero amount of political posturing or grandstanding is going to change minds here or swing votes, and even the bigots (and Boston has plenty of those) hate the fucking guy. But if you're going to deploy troops to a city or state, send them somewhere that won't be a tremendous pain in the ass and you can look good on camera. This is absolutely a place where people will pour Dunkin Donuts lahge regulahs into gas tanks if they have even the slightest opportunity. (ICE got swarmed out in Worcester at one point and needed a police escort to leave safely.)I think there's a lot of intertwined issues with Boston. It's not politically powerful, first of all. In the sense that it's almost certain to vote blue regardless of what nonsense he gets up to. But it's like.. disinterested blue. Massholes don't seem to care as much or be as activist about what's going on outside Mass.
Which means it's better left alone. Why kick a hornet's nest and turn a bunch of hair trigger thugs into political activists?
I said it poorly. What I meant was more that people in Mass aren't visual activists. Internationally, they just don't make the news being performative about what they stand for, and therefore they're also easier to pretend don't really exist. It's not so much that they're not doing things - it's the the government right now is less worried about people actually trying to do things and more concerned with people who are -very visibly- doing things, because that makes them look bad.I don't know if it's that they don't care - it's a hub or organizations working on projects to help folks out of state and internationally, and one of the teams I work with is actively suing the administration
Gotcha. Yeah, it may just not be worth it. Too much work not enough juice for the squeeze, plus you run the risk of giving a belligerent plumber a soundbite on camera that ends up on tee shirts.I said it poorly. So, as I think we agree, why kick a hornet's nest. You're not going to turn Mass red, and you might make yourself look weak and foolish by picking a fight in the one place in the country where people may actually be totally okay with being on camera kicking an ICE agent's teeth in.
Every time he releases a list of cities to threaten I keep expecting Boston to turn up on the list and then I wonder if they look at the MC Escher drawing that is the layout of the greater Boston area, the chaos, the zero ability for chickenshit fascist incels to flee without getting lost, and the fact that this is arguably inch for inch the angriest 48 square miles in the country. When the threats first kicked off one of teams I worked for talked about what to do when they start arresting us, and now I'm like... maybe this place really is that fucking tapped in the head. What's his bucket, that human tick who is ostensibly in charge of ICE, tried to act tough on TV and got pantsed like a half dozen times before he shut up. Boston should be in their top five targets and always gets left off.
Perfect world? Trump lives to be 200 years old and spends every year after this one being rejected by the world. The best case scenario is that we reject him and everything he's trying to do now while he's alive. Because, honestly, people are insane if they think this all stops with his death. He may be the cult of personality, but his death doesn't reverse our slide into authoritarian fascism. All it does is make him a martyr and then we have to listen to 20 years of 'if Trump were still alive and running this country, it would be paradise; we need to find another Trump.' In fact, I'd argue Trump dying right now could push us into a dictatorship even -faster- as his base scrambles and grabs for anyone, literally anyone, that they can visualize as being 'a strong leader man to protect us all.'Our only hope is cholesterol finally does its job.
I go the other way on this one. I've thought a lot about it.Perfect world? Trump lives to be 200 years old and spends every year after this one being rejected by the world.
