I'd just like to say that while I have not jumped in and truly engaged in this exemplary discussion, I frequently drop in to read a few pages at a time and distribute my trivial likes and loves to those comments which are particularly insightful or conscientious. The current state of affairs is just so overwhelmingly dire and depressing that I find myself avoiding intimate conversation on the subject matter despite my constant consumption of all the latest developments (degradation) available to me.
That being said, I just wanted to let all you fine people know I truly appreciate your tenacity, compassion, and lucidity. It is quite comforting knowing I'm not alone in my maddening and stifling frustration over this seemingly insurmountable authoritarian/oligarchical usurpation of our democratic republic by traitorous demagogues, fascists, and religious zealots.

I'm not sure where else to post this. For a video essay, it's blown up in the last week. It's absolutely phenomenal, and funny to boot.

It's a deconstruction of Joe Rogan's comedy cult, how the internet has destroyed our shared understanding of reality, and how those two things intersect to promote technofascism.

This was really good. That section about Hinchcliffe in particular, man. I thought comics normally called each other out for stealing jokes, but there he is just rolling right through.

They've picked out some other totally random country to 'deport' him to this time and have been threatening it for about a week, I believe. Fucking insane that this poor guy is getting put through all this. Even if he's -actually- a criminal he doesn't deserve to be targeted by the government like this, just so he can be the flashpoint for Hitler 2.0.
 
Yeah, I believe at this point he has been told IF he pleads guilty to the shit they've accused him of like human trafficking, etc, they will 'play nice' and send him to Costa Rica. Otherwise he is being sent to Uganda.
 
The Abrego Garcia thing is crazy-making. His only crime was being the victim of another classic Donny Trump blunder. It cannot be overstated how evil and incompetent these people are. Ending cancer research, human trafficking innocent people, and burning food rotting in a warehouse rather than sending it to starving people. I eagerly await the day I can celebrate each of their deaths. There is no hell hot enough for our Christofascist and technofascist overlords.

When the news came out that they were going to human traffic Abrego Garcia to another prison camp, I thought surely some immigration lawyers would step in or he would be relocated to Canada. I guess not.

I've never watched Rogan's comedy before, but it's brutal. The guy's as naturally funny as treebark.

I didn't know Duncan Trussell was in the cult. I only know him from The Midnight Gospel, an excellent one-season animated show by the Adventure Time creator.
 
Donny is trying to make it illegal to burn a US flag because he and his cronies support free speech or something. Probably more harmful though is he's trying eliminate cashless bail because only the poor should face consequences for anything in this country, regardless of whether or not charges against them are wrong or not. I'm guessing both will just be another schism where if you're in a predominately blue state you can still benefit from cashless bail if it's warranted and burn all the flags you want, but do it in a red state and face incarceration, deportation, etc.
 
Reading people on FB saying "well he can't do that, the Supreme Court has already said it's protected speech"...like, do you people not get it? NOTHING is safe at this point. Nothing. He's doing this SPECIFICALLY so somebody will challenge it and get it taken to the SC so they can overturn the established law, just like Roe and just like (soon) Obergefell. Just like he's putting armed military on the streets so somebody eventually takes a shot at them and he can advance the next step of his plans.

We also can't cede ground he has no authority to take. Like most of Trump's bluster, the flag-burning thing was an executive order. It has no teeth. It's not a law. It's basically a suggestion on how the president would like the law to be interpreted. That's it.
