U.S. Politics

I want to say I'm shocked or appalled by this but really this is just who like half of America is. Just shameless scum. And Trump lets them be their truest selves. How do you go up against a group of people who want to "reclaim" Nazi? It's this cross section of vicious and stupid and eventually you realize you're just arguing with a chain saw. That's all they are. Destruction without humanity. The worst of us, in power, and relentlessly comfortable and confident in the shit that they are.

Man. Some of you are being super depressing, I am genuinely sorry to point it out. I understand you're feeling like you're just being realistic, and that's your reality. That's just not me, not how I'm wired. I always try to see a better future.

Hell, he is covering obvious IV bruising on his hands, he has been spotted with the outline of a foley catheter in his pants, and just the other day, it was pointed out that he has serious edema (swelling) of his calves and ankles, which is a sign of heart failure. He could keel over tomorrow and all this worry and negative thinking was all for naught. That's not to mention the obvious serious mental decline.

He is human. He is old and unwell. His time is coming sooner rather than later. He will perish. And there is no one of that party that can have the stranglehold on policy and the people like him, and it WILL end.

I admire your optimism.

I don't think it's that simple. Even if the party doesn't like Vance or any of their other options, everything is already rotted through from the people already in power who have the real decision making, to the voters who endlessly justify getting shot in the face as long as someone else gets shot in the face twice.

The game doesn't even begin with him. This has been a long time coming.

But I'd rather be cynical and proven wrong than ignore what I see and be proven right.

But I also don't want to wedge between you and me because they also win so. I'm not being contrary to you, just presenting a point of view.

Of course, man. No worries.

Hey, for what it's worth, I hope you're wrong, too. 😉

Maybe it's a coping mechanism for me to live in an alternate reality where it's all rainbows and unicorns. But for my own mental health, my own nerves, I cannot live in this constant state of fight or flight.

The fact that they don't understand the VAST difference between those two words says it all.

Never in a million years while watching Alternative Nation on MTV back in the day would I have expected to see Kennedy becoming...that.

Unfortunately I think that's one reason my mental health is shit. Thats how I've always had to live to survive.

I'm with @RicksNerdLife. It's been proven pretty clearly that no one else in the GOP can borrow or wield Trump's cult of personality. When he dies, the MAGA movement will be leaderless, fracture, and eventually recede. The Republican base won't follow Vance, DeSantis, or Trump Jr. with the same cult-like devotion. The GOP's most likeable candidates in 2028 are Rubio and Youngkin and neither of them are true MAGA acolytes. If Trump dies before the end of his term, the GOP will see the field of play they're leaving a potential Dem administration and suddenly remember their "principles" and care about the deficit and the balance of powers again.

Jesus. If I didn't know they were being deadly serious, I'd think it was a comedy sketch or something. These people really are just so unaware of irony; I've seen drawers full of tangled up cords that are less twisted than their logic.

Ironic that they're just now apparently discovering that words have meaning and power behind them, and yet they're trying to co-opt one of the most hateful, offensive, damning words there is. Sure, African Americans have taken the power back on the N word. As distasteful as it may be to some, my boyfriend and I sometimes jokingly use the F word when mimicking hateful individuals. Mind you, it's only because we've both been called it many times in our lives by hateful or ignorant individuals, and so we see it as taking the power away from the word; that said, we realize that it's still a very harmful word to many, and we never use it in front of others because of this. And even still, if someone who was ignorant of its meaning or someone attempting to use it in harmful manner called us that, we'd still take great offense to it. Context is everything.

I've always been of the mindset that if you are the thing the hateful word is targeted toward, then you- and only you can use the word (but don't have to, obviously, and totally understand if you don't want to). If anyone else uses it, it's not charming or cute or funny, it's grounds for an ass-whooping. In my book, that goes for singing along to songs too- doesn't matter if the artist says the N word or F word or what have you, either skip it or substitute it for something else if you're singing along. It's one thing for the oppressed to take the word that demonized them and remove its power, it's another thing entirely for the oppressor to try and do the same. At that point, you're not taking away the power from anything, you're just stating your name. I think it's also worth noting that, while I could be wrong- other offensive words like the N word, R word, F word, etc. were all (or mostly) words made or had their meaning twisted to call out and demonize and dehumanize the person, whereas Nazi was not only a name/title from the start, but it was worn with pride by those who carried it. I think not only is it downright ignorant of them to think that such a word could be used so flippantly, but it also feels like they're still just mocking those that have suffered by attempting to relate to a struggle they've never known.

So if they want to tell on themselves so blatantly, I say go right ahead. It'll make everyone else's jobs easier. But I'll be damned if I ever normalize such a word, let alone look at it as a term of endearment.

Maga is so deeply rooted in conspiracy stuff, I don't see them letting this go.
There's a delicious irony in there somewhere, buried deep below all the bullshit. Like Scar being devoured by the hyenas- it would be lovely and satisfying to see his own people be the ones to bring him down, as unlikely as that is to ever happen.

Right, they don't get how these words and how they're used aren't the same thing at all. But yeah, if they want to identity as Nazis, by all means. Maybe they can Inglourious Basterds themselves and carve the symbol on their foreheads so they don't even have to aurally announce it.
