At a certain point - what's the difference between them and actual supporters of the Antichrist?
I always wondered this too and can't grasp how such behavior doesn't negate their worthiness at the gates after all is said and done. I guess Peter will sort 'em out. And I'm positive some are greedy grifters like you said, but still don't get how those benefit from everything getting nuked.

Right. If I was still a believer, I would immediately make this connection. They're all sporting the symbol of the beast on their foreheads with red trucker hats.

In the 90s I was in grad school getting a MA in History of Religious Traditions. Me and a fellow student were routinely laughed at and belittled for insisting that American Evangelical Christianity was shaping up to be the most dangerous cultural movements in human history. Two of the 16 professors in the Dept were responsive to the argument; just the 2 of us students.

Some of the more extreme members of my family believed Obama was the Antichrist. When the closest thing we'll ever see to the genuine article presents himself, they accept him wholeheartedly.

If you don't laugh, you'll cry.
Kind of sounds exactly like what the Anti-Christ would do on Earth. Present himself with all his flaws and still have the sheep accept him as their saviour.

That's not surprising. We've allowed Christianity to really sanitize itself. Islam has kind of gone the same direction. We are allowing them, and in fact many non-religious folks are HELPING them, spread this message that "oh uh... ahem... actually... the true message of Christianity/Islam is peace and love." No, it isn't. They are both violent, and violently oppressive. That's doctrinal. It's not 'some bad actors using the Bible to do bad things.' It's stuff that's in the fucking Bible.

Religion is just bad. It's a bad thing. Period. It shouldn't exist. I can prove it with one sentence. One sentence that is not only incontrovertible, but can be linked to the majority of what ails humanity right now today:

Religion teaches you that it is both good, and in fact correct, to believe things without evidence.

Religion is just bad.
Yep. Unfortunately, yep.

Now, folks can *believe* whatever they want, OK. But once you start organizing (and that’s the key word here: “organized”) someone’s particular, individual beliefs into a religious system that more than one person is expected to follow, then we are immediately on the road to awful things. And that’s true even if the original intentions of said organized religious thing are “good”.

People really should cut it out with prophecies.
I foresee that that won't happen.

I don't even agree that people can believe whatever they want. I mean... I obviously agree that they can because they DO. I mean I don't believe that they SHOULD. Even without organizing around those beliefs - just encouraging people toward the idea that they can believe what they -want- to believe is ... fucking insanity.

they can because they DO
Heheheh yeah that was the sense in which I meant that. I recognize that I can’t actually stop people from believing whatever, but I contend that we can and SHOULD stop them from congregating and creating hierarchies and all that.

it wasn't bad enough the system was broken & slow but now they keep firing judges who were following the law

I'm pretty sure they have already deported most of the criminals (supposed since there was no due process to prove either way)
now they are going after the regular folks who were just trying to get legal/documented
let's also not forget those undocumented fled their situations because of dire circumstances & probably didn't have any documents to begin with
for a hypothetical example if you are a Venezuelan who is on the government's bad side will you wait for your passport you asked for while they totally want to lock you away for even trying to leave?

I foresee that that won't happen.

At times like this I think back to comedian Patton Oswalt's bit about respecting beliefs:

"You've gotta respect everyone's beliefs." No, you don't. That's what gets us in trouble. Look, you have to acknowledge everyone's beliefs, and then you have to reserve the right to go: "That is fucking stupid. Are you kidding me?" I acknowledge that you believe that, that's great, but I'm not going to respect it."

If only......
