Super 7 Ultimates Thread

As for Robo/Veebs I just kind of don't know why I am a subscriber anymore. One of things I enjoy from content creators is live streams. It is kind of like just sitting in on fellow collectors chatting about toys.
Oof. I absolutely loathe live streams. I just want to hear what you have to say, every time you stop to say hi to the 5-10 people who'd just logged on, or read out whatever inane comment a view made because they gave you a $3 superchat, I just want to flip a desk. I literally cannot stand it. Fer instance, I love Lyle's Figure Files and D80's Full Force, but their live chats can eff right off.

But anyways, the reason I came here in the first place is to say the WilyKit and WilyKat are both available on BBTS. Not sure if that's old news or if it's been mentioned already, but I just saw it myself and thought I'd bring it up.

I'm kind of the opposite. I like the free flow of talk in live streams , while I find a lot of "produced" videos either boring, or overly long on a specific topic. I guess I'm more of a "news-esque" type of consumer and less of a written episode consumer.

I like Lyle's Figure Files as well. He also does Lyle's Movie Files (a live stream!!) with his brother and a friend. So the best of both worlds but on different topics.

I'm definitely not a live stream guy. Mostly because I don't make YouTube appointment viewing. It's mostly something I put on while I'm working, taking a break, or on occasion if I just can't think of something to watch late at night and I want to be lulled to sleep (thank you soft-spoken Jeremy Parish and your many essays on video games). I still watch Robo's Rewind every Saturday and I like most of Veebs' stuff even if it's just commercials or gushing over product he likes. Listening to a bullshit artist like Flynn has entertainment value, just not informational.

I do wonder what the future of Super7 is. It seems like their Ultimates are drying up. ThunderCats, TMNT, and their music figures seem to be the only consistent sellers. The Hasbro stuff doesn't seem to sell well, D&D especially so, Silverhawks was always going to be niche at best, and they lost everything Disney after putting out some spectacularly shitty figures. The output is way down across the board as well. Maybe these ReAction 2.0 figures are doing good numbers? No idea, but nothing they sell is priced to absorb something like massive tariffs (in fairness, few products are on the scale that's being tossed around, but Super7 especially so) and even a modest increase could kill their business. Ultimates are still holding at $55 as a base price, but definitely with a lot less than stuff than they used to come with. I think ReAction at Target is up to $22 or something which is probably why I literally never see anything move off of the pegs at my local store.

As an aside, I am surprised at how far off I have fallen from both Super7 and Robo/Veebs in the past 6 months/year.

Super7 was already a bit of a tough sell for me in Canada because of the exchange rate and pricing. I mean Ultimates were starting around $75 for a regular release. So after tax, for me, that was $85. Now exchange rate, etc. etc. blah blah blah. Ask yourselves if you would be willing to pay $85 in your local currency for an Ultimates figure? So that really limited me to Super7 lines that were not being done by anyone else (Thundercats, Silverhawks). However the price just became too much of an issue and I have fallen off now. The deluxe offerings are an interesting in-between offering, but still a tough sell at $50Cdn after tax. I'll probably use it for things like Tygra (more accurate look, while keeping the Ultimates accessories). Otherwise I don't see much of a need to keep supporting Super7 even if they get other licenses that no one else is doing figures for anymore.

As for Robo/Veebs I just kind of don't know why I am a subscriber anymore. One of things I enjoy from content creators is live streams. It is kind of like just sitting in on fellow collectors chatting about toys. They used to regularly do that, but now they hardly ever do live streams anymore. So their channel doesn't really offer me as much in the way of content I enjoy anymore. I am still subscribed more out of just kind of forgetting I am more than anything. I think their old agreement with The Fwoosh probably kept them on a schedule and maybe that is what forced their hand for content. However since they left it seems like they haven't been as consistent. Again just my opinion.

I still love Robo and I watch 80% of what he puts out - including every Rewind. His enthusiasm is infectious and he seems like a genuinely good person and I like supporting that in what small way I can. Misfit's comment about appointment viewing is pretty spot on, though. I watch YT when I can, when I'm not doing something else. So I'm not a fan, at all, of having to jump on at a certain time and stay there. I don't even like watching TV that way anymore.
Further, I don't find them all that compelling. Not because I don't like hearing their opinions or whatever, but because I don't have time in my life for a 4-hour meandering conversation about toys, maybe half of which is of interest to me directly. Not a shot against them by any means. But I have so much to do day-to-day, and there's so much content out there to enjoy. I just can't give them that much of my time or attention.

I actually wonder how much cost they can absorb if they had to make the hard choice to be way less greedy until things get better. Super7 is so fucking overpriced that they may actually be in a better position than most to weather the storm with minimal or no price increases (depending on where the cost increases actually land). It wouldn't entirely shock me to see Brian set himself up as a fucking hero by saying 'we're going to absorb this 40% tariff because we love the fans,' at least for a while, knowing that a 40% tariff still means he's making profit on every sale without changing prices because he's already charging 20 fucking dollars for worthless 5POA garbage that Hasbro sells for 8 dollars.

That is a good point regarding their profit margin. I would love to be able to see the balance sheet on that company. Do they pay their people better than most? Are they spending way too much money on warehousing, locations, or factories? Is it just the upper management taking home a bigger piece of the pie? Horrible financing situation? Everything they sell is overpriced so it makes me think they either spend foolishly or their board or however the company is made up is just taking home a bigger piece of the pie. I feel like if they were an outlier in the toy world where their employees are better taken care of then we would have heard something by now. Seems like that's something they would like to have publicized.

I got my deluxe Tygra from Target today and I'm happy to see there is no brown wash on his torso. He also has the elbow pad but it is unpainted. The gold accents on his shoulder pad and boots are also unpainted but that is an easy fix and I already have the paint. The figure as a whole just feels sturdier and less fidgety than the original release.

I haven’t opened mine yet, but he arrived today too. Cheetara, on the other hand, is back ordered and due early May now. Hoping to find her in person.

I didn't preorder her but if I see her in person I may pick one up. Are there any huge differences?

Cheetarah and Tygra both arrived today. Happy to have them. Cheetarah is better than the first version because the hips are actually fixed on this version.

Tygra is fine. I don't know that he is sturdier than the original version. Not sure what I'm goung to use this for, but I'll be grabbing a couple more for sure.

I got in a trio of Super7 figures yesterday: Papa Emeritus IV, Danzig (Samhain), and Danzig (Danzig era).

The Ghost figure is solid, like the other Ghost figures. Some new stuff was needed for this look and they did a really good job with the soft goods. Somehow these Ghost figures articulate better than a lot of their super hero types, though he's still pretty stiff. Papa is kind of slithery on stage so finding that kind of nuance is almost impossible with their articulation scheme which is why they always display better with the full vestments on. Good timing with the new album dropping Friday. I hope this relationship continues because the new Papa is pretty damn cool looking, though I'm guessing they redo this one as Cardinal Copia first.

The Danzig figures are my first go with their MOTU-inspired buck. It kind of is what it is in that regard. Surprisingly sturdy and stiff, I get what they're going for, but man do I wish these could at least turn their wrist. He can't even point his microphone at his face. The blood deco is pretty cool on the Samhain figure, though they cheaped-out in not painting his eyes since they're mostly hidden by the devilock and blood. The Danzig era figure features a surprisingly good likeness of old, grumpy, Glenn. I wish the pendant had some weight to it though as it basically floats above his chest. I'll have to try heating it to see if I can get it to lay flat. Both figures are also overpriced, but that's a given with Super7. The cardbacks are kind of fund though as it's basically a Castle Grayskull with the Danzig skull laid over it. Not attractive enough to tempt me to keep these two carded, but kind of neat.

Just got an e-mail from Super7 that they are adding an 8% surcharge to all non-apparrel orders to offset "unsustainable cost increases"... they don't use the word "tariff", so I'm wondering if they are just using the tariff timing as an excuse to toss on an increase.

:::taps nose:::

I was pretty content with my Super7 Papa Emeritus IV when I made my initial post. He looked fine and the soft goods seemed well done. Then I put them on...

First of all, it uses two soft goods for the look: a poncho like undergarment and then a cape over that. Both are dual-layered with a wire running through them. They look fine. There's a slight cheapness to the under garment because it's supposed to have a scarf like thing over it which they just printed over it, but it's fine. What they didn't account for though is just how much material this is. It's light, so it can't hang like the actual robes on the real life person and there's a ton of material at the neck that just bunches up. When you put it all on, it looks ridiculous. And then you compare it to the render they used to sell the product:

Even when the company does something seemingly well, they find a way to screw it up. I full admit that I'm part of the problem because they've already teased a Papa V Perpetua and I'll almost certainly get it unless there's some massive upcharge, but this company is trash,

The elbows have that mechanical look the Nacelle Biker Mice possess which isn't great. Aside from that, they seem fine and that range is pretty good for a bulky arm and honestly better than I was expecting out of them. The hips are some kind of heinous though and look like old school Toy Biz hips. Is good hip articulation so hard to figure out?

They look pretty good though and I didn't notice anything flopping around so that's certainly a plus.
