Super 7 TMNT figures

That's what I'm wondering about BBTS. They are still $55 but I'm sure they have the tariff surcharge disclaimer on the listing pages. We may have to shell out a bit more money later and I don't expect them to hang around anywhere too long, just because it is the Turtles themselves and not some ancillary character that only the most diehard of fans have heard of.

I picked up the new 2k3 figures via EE this past Wednesday. I can’t say no to a 10% off coupon plus’s free shipping. I was not counting on those figures to sell out as fast as they did considering the extra long preorder windows that Super7 provided last year.

And I fully intended to go all in on this era from the get go. The 2003 cartoon was the one iteration of the turtles that I was able to sit down and enjoy from start to finish during its original run and that hasn’t wavered in the years since. To this days it’s one of my top 3 iterations. So I think to help free up funds and space in my collection for my inevitable 2k3 collection I’m going to be selling off my ancillary playmates figures as well as the parts of my Neca collection that I can do without. That will include things like my concert turtles, my gigantic movie turtles ( though I’m down one since Donny broke after shelf diving earlier this past month) my arcade turtles and also my ancillary characters from my 87 era cartoon turtles from the later seasons that I never really watched or followed. I’ll just keep around my core cast of the turtles themselves, the channel 6 crew and the main bad guys and then I’m set. Also I’ll hold onto my 7” movie turtles and my mirage TMNT. Everything else gets sold to make space for 2k3

@Stoopid_Sandwich Whoa now little fella. I wouldn't go selling anything just yet. This is still Super7 we're talking about. You're not even guaranteed the second wave that's already been shown, let alone any waves after that. Definitely don't get your hopes up and make sure to just take it as it comes.

Well in spite of that I still need to sell stuff off. I’ve collected too much crap over the years and the excess glut from Neca and playmates that I’ve accumulated is a good place to start. Trust me this part of my collection isn’t going to be growing any larger as it stands right now anyway. I haven’t bought anything new from either of these two companies in the last few years

@Stoopid_Sandwich No no - you do you, of course. I just meant, don't sell anything off JUST because you're anticipating a growing collection of Super7 figures that may not materialize. Nothing worse than selling stuff in anticipation of getting into something else and then that thing doesn't happen for whatever reason. That sucks.

In all fairness I think future waves very likely will materialize. I just watched a podcast on Geek Dad Life’s channel that debuted during the announcement of wave 12 back in June and the whole inception of this line was borne out of the need to capitalize on the Turtles 40th anniversary. And that announcement coupled with what Brian has stated himself in various podcasts is that once the line is off the ground, they fully intend to commit to seeing this line completed as thoroughly as possible. But as with anything customers will have to vote with their wallets. So far I feel like that hurdle has been cleared. They had the wind at their backs for the first two preorder windows, and if the sellout times at EE for the first wave is any indication then I think those are some promising signs.

Are you guys just feeling this gun shy because of what happened with the Simpsons and Disney lines? Because the TMNT stuff has managed to surpass all of those waves. Hell I think it’s officially in its 7th year of production now. I don’t think even the Masters of the Universe Classics line ran for this long.

I'm not sure I'd call it 'gun shy' because I don't actually care if they make more 2000-era stuff at all.

But let's clarify a few things just so we're on the same page, not as a 'gotcha' or as an attempt to tear you down or anything. Masters Classics ran way longer than TMNT has. Under Mattel it ran for about 6.5-7 years. Then another 2-ish years under Super7. Compared to about 5 years for TMNT Ultimates (Wave 1 released in 2020).

TMNT Ultimates has released 64 items to date, including all variants. MOTUC released about 209 items. Like.. it's not even a close contest. Not only did MOTUC last longer than TMNT has thus far (while granting TMNT is still going), but MOTUC released just... so much more product. If you break it down to a 'per year' average, MOTUC released almost twice as much product. So 'how long the line lasted' doesn't tell the whole story. A line that lasts 10 years and produces 10 figures is far less impressive than a line that lasts 3 years and produces 100 figures, all other things being equal.

All that is to say -- yeah, Super7 has garnered a bit of a reputation for cancelling things. Simpsons, Disney, some of the wrestling stuff, Dungeons & Dragons. Probably something else I'm not thinking of at the moment. Did they cancel G.I. Joe? Can't remember. It's not just about what they've cancelled though, it's about the clear message that they are more than willing to cancel announced product if it doesn't meet their mysterious sales expectations. It would be, perhaps, faulty logic to assume that TMNT is immune to the thing Super7 has already done numerous times.

No one is saying 'don't want to buy it.' It's just a cautionary message that it being announced doesn't guarantee they're going to release it. That's all.

I don't think they have officially cancelled GI Joe but after that last repaint wave failed to make preorder there has been no other mention of Ultimates and they've pivoted to the o-ring stuff.

For me, I'd honestly be happy with just these first two waves if they come out. Not that I wouldn't buy more, but to my mind, '03 didn't necessarily have a lot of classic characters that I'd need versions of in a toy line. There's no Bebop and Rocksteady, for example. I like a lot of the versions of Shredder and Baxter that they did, and I know like Usagi Yojimbo and Fugitoid made appearances, but who else would the must-have characters be? Leatherhead? A lot of the other designs I like are basically incidentals.

There are many characters I’d want

April O’Neil
Baxter Stockman (in various incarnations)
Foot Tech Ninjas
Hun
Nano
Leatherhead
Garbage man
Utrom Warrior
Feudal Shredder
Foot Elites
Foot Mystics
Angel
Purple dragon goons
Karai

“Notes From the Underground” Monsters
Fugitoid
Triceraton Repuplic Warriors
Federation Soldiers
General Blanque
Emperor Traximus
Zanramon
Ultimate Ninja
Drako
Ultimate Daimyo
Usagi Yojimbo
Panda Kahn
Agent Bishop (one of my biggest wants)
Shredder in his Exodus armor (another big want)

Ninja Tribunal turtles
Ancient One
Tengu Shredder
Fast Forward Turtles
Cody Jones
Viral
Sh’Okanabo
Darius Dunn
Dark Turtles

And lastly TMNT Forever set

Most of the designs I like are unnamed mutant/creature characters, or implausibly large/complex Baxter/Shredder iterations. So I'm not expecting to put THAT much money into this line if it goes on (if you ignore how much they already cost and how much more they will down the line). I didn't care for Fast Forward at all, but if they made nice enough Dark Turtles I'd probably consider those.
