NECA 2012 Turtles

I had a hard time getting into the 2012 show, at first. I was pretty turned off by the "Teen Titan"ness of it and the CG style, buuuut I started watching it after getting some of the toys, and it grew to be one of my favorite TMNT shows. It never felt like it was ashamed of what it was or what came before it, which is especially true when they have the 80s TMNT crossover later on. I thought it was much more respectful than Turtles Forever. But, yeah, it's a really enjoyable show, has some great writing and builds on things that happen in previous episodes. Most, not all, of the redesigns work for me, and it never really shys away from being weird.

It's also the most body horror-fueled TMNT iteration. Lots of disturbing things here and there.

I've been stalking Targets all week, and have found zero Haulathon items besides one HP Snape. I was able to score the Sakai set of five online this morning, but I'm desperate to find Tiger Claw and the Foot Bots. I imagine they'll eventually be available to order online, but that most likely won't stop me from in-person hunting until they actually are online.

Edit: of course I found the full end cap, including these, the Sakai, Sesame Street Super Grover, and Pee Wee and friends. Guess I can stop hunting and cancel the online order!

So I scored Tiger Claw and the Foot Bots today on a full end cap. I haven't opened either yet, because I wanted to enjoy the packaging. Specifically, I wanted to see if these contribute to the side panel mural. Tiger Claw does. He's numbered 8. I have the inaugural set of the four turtles and Shredder to keep packaged. The boys are numbered 1-4, while Shredder is 6. In the mural, there's definitely a gap between Leo, who is 4, and Shredder. Tiger Claw connects to Shredder, despite being 8. The mural skips 7, which is the Foot Bot's number. The Foot Bot's package does not contribute to the mural. SO WHO THE FUCK IS 5? And why would they exclude a numbered package from the total mural??

The 2-pack is 7? I think the missing one is the solo Foot ninja which NECA sold on their website, if memory serves. I don't know if it has shipped yet.

Opened the Foot Bots and Tiger Claw this morning, and they are exceptional.

The Foot Bots are sturdy. The forearms and lower legs use a much more rigid plastic than I associate with NECA. As a result, they feel like they won't wilt at all. But also results in some very tight hinges. Nothing heat can't fix, but I had no source handy, so I just used care. They come loaded with accessories x2: busted head, sickle hand, mace hand, knife pair, grip pair, relaxed pair, and fist pair (which are already attached), a knife (non-removable sheath on the back of each belt), a sword and sheath (which can be slung around the torso if you remove the head and back arm). Range of motion isn't fantastic in the elbows and knees, but everything else feels pretty good. Had a few stuck joints on mine, one neck hinge that won't move without heat, random elbow (out of eight, that's not bad). Could pull off a two hand grip on the sword, but it was tough.

Tiger Claw is a beast. He's the brightest orange I've seen since ML retro card Tigra. He's pretty tall and has plenty of articulation, most of which feels pretty tight. He comes with a non-scarred, closed mouth head, a scarred, roaring head, fists, grips, open pairs of hands, two pistols that can be holstered, two sets of pink and blue blast effects for each, a smaller pistol with no where to be stored, a blast effect for his jetpack, a prosthetic arm with a mechanical hand that can be swapped with claws. He moves well enough, though the hips are VERY tight and ankle range is limited. He looks sensational though. He even has whiskers on both heads made from what looks like fishing line. Amazing.

I honestly still can't believe they're doing figures from this show. I'd be so tempted to go all in, and with the license likely ending, it's pretty likely I will, since I'm sure the line won't have time to go that deep. I'm really looking forward to Slash and Casey and Metalhead, and it would be a dream come true to get an in-scale Leatherhead. I'll obviously get Splinter, and if they make her, April. But I'd love Dog Pound and Fish Face as well. Don't know if I NEED Bebop and Rocksteady, or Snakeweed or Baxter. Oh, a Kraang Bot in human and exposed form would be excellent too.

Such a terrible time for them to be losing the license, because I'd have gone 100% on this line. I wanted everything, except maybe the Kirby bat mutant. This would've been my '87 line.

S'funny, Robo talked about it briefly when talking about the Linhuangwhatever Bebop and Rocksteady, saying that "Talking to people at Toy Fair, they're like 'We're just going to keep going until somebody tells us we can't'"

For what that's worth I guess. Robo Don't Know, n'all that.

Maybe I'll start insisting it's over so often and in such a know-it-all manner that the universe will become annoyed at my arrogance and take me down a peg by letting NECA hold on for a few more years.
That's what I do, and it's seemed to work out in my favor so far.

...but seriously, it's over.
