MONDO 1/6 TMNT

I haven't yet. It looks cool but it'd be $300 for me with fees, taxes, and shipping. With this line in particular, I'd be committing to the Turtles and at least Shredder, so that's $1,500.

I'm seeing chatter online about downsizing and changes within this company and that it may not even be around in the coming years where the other brothers get released. Perhaps this pre order will show them the demand is greater than ever for TMNT. Would be a shame if they folded before getting these all released. I'm still on the fence about these mostly because of the chatter out there.

I've only seen baseless speculation/postulation centered around Funko, since they own Mondo. We are certainly in the dark there.

Should they go under (which I somehow doubt), I'm sure it won't be for some time.

I didn't order Donnie and don't plan to. Getting two figure from the X-Men line over the past few weeks was enough to make me content in my decision to not go in on this line. These things are just so hard to make space for (not to mention the expense).

The Mondo page for Donnie's preorder is showing the cutoff for this times edition as being 12/02 rather than the 10 days originally quoted by some. Leaves a little more space to shore up funds since they charge upon checkout. I plan on getting Donnie whether Mondo survives or not. I think there will be a market for a lot of people's favorite turtle whether Mondo continues to exist or not and I'd wager I can get my money back if I just decide to clear out the line for some unknown reason. I think I'm sticking to just the 4 turtles though. They're 10", which is slightly smaller than even Nightcrawler ended up being. Thankfully they downscaled Nightcrawler's box as storage is a concern. I can handle 4 TMNT and then I'm out. Splinter would be the biggest "maybe" for me, and I doubt they'll go as deep as the tertiary mutants like Ray Filet, Mondo Gecko etc. if Mondo/Funko are due for extinction. Excited for this line, just not for the prices. Cést la vie and Cowabunga!

I really like that Donnie and can't wait to see what they come up with designs for everything, but I just don't think I can do it at this size. They money's a big thing too, but I truly have no idea where I'd put a whole collection of 1/6 scale figures at this stage of my collecting life. Just into too many different things.

Same. I love the look and the idea behind the line but size and cost are killer. I may get Leo but I can't get the line. If they redo them in a 1/12 line I'm all in.

I’m so on the fence on these.
On the one hand, COOL LOOKING!
On the other hand, $1.2k is a lot to commit to
But on the other other hand, I don’t like the shredder they’ve shown so I’m probably only in for just the brothers…
But on the other other other hand (I’m Goro for this one) do I really need another set of just the brothers?!

I’m gonna be himming and hawing over this dilemma until the second to be sure…

Maybe I *just* get Donnie, he’s roughly the size of McF DC Multiverse Mega Figure Bane, he can be Venomized (but not THAT Venom, even though they’re both Tom Hardy) Donnie from Batman/TMNT 2 if I don’t get more

Okay, if I can pull out my Pepe Silva board for a second… has anyone noticed these “unique Mondoverse designs” for the Turtles look an awful lot like Heat Boys’ (also 10 inch tall) versions of the Turtles?

(The Turtles shown here as renders with the street art tags behind them, not the mislabeled Meztoys figures or the Mechs)

Like Donnie, sure chalk it up to coincidence he has a pair of night vision goggles and a tech arm brace thing (although worth noting every additional item Mondo included is something Donnie has had before, including his Rise tech bo and Mutant Mayhem glasses and bum bag)

But Leo is where it’s really interesting…

They both chose to give him an asymmetrical shoulder pad and blue scarf, which, let’s step ovet to the Naruto TMNT crossover:

Where he also has an asymmetrical shoulder pad and blue scarf…

The concept render of Raph a few pages back is also VERY similar to the Heat Boys figure with his darker wraps and more worn out look… so I wonder if Mondo Raphwill have alt dewrag head tops as seems to his current style in all over media…

Also, not gonna link to images for all of it, but the belt strap style on the Mondo, Heat Boys, and Naruto Turts is all very similar even if not identical, and they’re similar the Fortnite, Magic the Gathering card art, Mezy Toys, and Joy Toy designs…

Not pointing this out to be like “whoa! way to copy you hacks!” because clearly each version is unique even if using the same template…

No, I bring it up to ask… is there a secret style guide for “modern non-cartoon/movie based Turtles” licensors get from Paramount we don’t know about?!?! Where no one gets to make a truely “unique” ninja turtle dsign, and Paramount has set the belt style and then suggest “you can give Donnatello these tech add ons if you wish” “Raph may wear a dewrag” “Leo may have a scarf and an asymmetrical shoulder pad” and they get to play in those guidelines?!?!

Because if the Heat Boys concept art is similar to what Mondo will be making, but “movie style”, AND with little flusihizes added in from other media (Leo sure looks like he has his Next Mutation sword…) then fuck, no reason to fight it… Take my $1.2k Mondo!

Has anyone else incorporated modified "Mouser" friendlies as accessories yet? I don't know, but I can't think of any. The HeatBoys turtle designs have been around for quite a while, longer than the Mondo news of them doing TMNT I'd say. However after seeing that Raph was given boxing gloves for some reason I was more or less turned off and just decided to blow the wad on MetyToyz's 4 brothers. This, of course, is all before hearing/seeing about Mondo's offerings. I chalk most of these design choices up to people just running out of ways to put their own mark on the turtles. Just looking at Nickelodeon's more recently geometric-looking TMNT cartoon offerings, they're not even attached to the four of them being the same type of turtle anymore. I think Donnie's affinity for technology and his intellectual prowess has pretty much typecast him out of being an effective "ninja" at this point and turned him more or less into tech support for the other 3. Raph is essentially a goon now who's half Wolverine and half NYC's equivalent of the Tasmanian Devil. Leo and Mikey don't get it as bad though Mikey's the one that seems to adopt all the newer fads / "urban looks" be it shoes or some other clothing or wears oversized headphones or is an amateur graffiti artist. Leo is the straight-man of the group and basically teacher's pet and fully embraces the ninja aspect more than the others I'd say. So in general, this is just a manifestation of each turtle being type-cast more than anything else. You can play it up as each of these teens finding themselves and manifesting their own identity, but I've never felt that Donnie needed to wear glasses or behave like Steve Urkel to portray a brainy teenager, any more than I felt Raph needed to wear a do-rag or act like a cocky jock.

Personally I thought the 1990 film did a good job of giving each turtle their own personality without totally separating them from what they were, which is teenagers trained in ninja fighting, working as a unit, who happen to be freakishly large sewer-dwelling turtles. The only reason the Last Ronin comes across as interesting is because there's one of them left and his biggest issue is dealing with the loss of the other 3 and finding meaning in a world where he's the only one left and and out to avenge them. Beyond that, I don't feel like any of them function well without the group for anything more than just brief outings into the city.
