I reread the Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men, and USM last year start to finish and I will fully admit I kind of made a just-ate-a-lemon-straight face the entire time I was reading the Ultimates. Some fun costume redesigns though.I like the design of the UIM armor and the figure looks great. I've just always had a bad taste in my mouth from the very existence of the Ultimate Universe (I had strong opinions about comics back then), so I'll be passing.
Just Banshee, Rom and Warlock for me.
I guess I'm the only one who really wants that Ultimate Iron Man figure? That armor is so different, but cool in a practical way. It's got the real life bulk a suit of armor would have. I really enjoyed the Ultimate Universe, and the big three Ultimates have been a long time want. I do hope they get around to Thor. Despite my anticipation for Iron Man, I have to agree that Banshee is a front runner. Followed by UIM, Daken, Warlock, ROM, and Miles, though JHernandez recently posted some great posed shots of him. Those hips are awful in a vanilla pose, but allow for some great poses.
Possibly a dumb question - has anyone picked out which Venom to use to stand in for Mac to do a Dark Avengers display once Daken ships?
Oh, I thought the Ultimate Universe was going to supplant 616 eventually. I wasn't a fan of Bill Jemas in general, so was predisposed to disliking anything he helped shepherd into "my Marvel comics". I loved Hitch's art, but the Ultimates title felt very "Edgelord" to me. I disliked Bendis' writing style. Just a lot of things I didn't like at the time. In honesty, I never really gave it a chance beyond reading some Vaughan UXM (big fan of BKV).It's been a while since I've read any Ultimates comics. What were your beefs with them? Anyone, doc, Joel, not to go on a tangent, just curious about your opinions.
The Ultimates just felt MEAN. Like the Avengers were almost entirely actively unpleasant, awful human beings. (But hey, Millar.) Hitch's art was beautiful though. UXM I just didn't LOVE, but I don't hold it in such animosity as the Ultimates. And to be honest I might be one of the few people left alive who liked Bendis back then so I actually enjoyed USM. Did some weird stuff I didn't love but that was supposed to be the point of Ultimates, to shake things up a bit. UXM shook things up a lot in ways I didn't get much joy out of.It's been a while since I've read any Ultimates comics. What were your beefs with them?
