ML Mini Comic wave

I passed on Miles and Daken from this wave, but I’m SUPER excited for the others, especially ROM. I keep checking my Amazon pre-order, hoping they’ll ship sooner than the 21st.

The Ultimates just felt MEAN. Like the Avengers were almost entirely actively unpleasant, awful human beings. (But hey, Millar.) Hitch's art was beautiful though. UXM I just didn't LOVE, but I don't hold it in such animosity as the Ultimates. And to be honest I might be one of the few people left alive who liked Bendis back then so I actually enjoyed USM. Did some weird stuff I didn't love but that was supposed to be the point of Ultimates, to shake things up a bit. UXM shook things up a lot in ways I didn't get much joy out of.

But yeah, my real knock on the Ultimate Universe was turning all the Avengers into awful humans. But that being said, Hitch knocked it out of the park art-wise.
Yep. I've always said Superman is an altruism fantasy, not a power fantasy. The same should be true of all superheroes.

If you want some asshole abusing their power, go read Alan Moore's Miracleman or Robert Kirkman's Invincible. Hell, look out your window.

I was a comic book reading teen in the 90s and I ended up making part of my living now writing books about young superheroes with no sense of self preservation just trying to do the right thing, so I'm right there with you. Superheroes are power fantasies if your fantasy is being able to HELP people. Plenty of other stories, or as you say, out there in reality, of terrible people abusing power. (I'm fine with DARK heroes, just not assholes. I can't find joy in 'em.)

I was excited for Miles but I don’t think I noticed the terrible hips before. It makes the figure look incredibly dated. Gonna need to cancel my order for him and wait for the inevitable fixed version.

I can't stand that in order to accommodate the downgrade accessory for the wave (I think we'd all prefer the option of a whole new figure) almost all figures are missing key hand options so they can hold the comic. Daken only has one 2-claw hand. Miles doesn't get 2 fists or 2 crawling hands. They took kind of a lame idea and allowed to impact the overall quality of the figure offering - which is a bit of a worst-case, if you ask me.

Thank god they can hold that stupid fucking comic pack in though!

Weirdly, I’m super-excited for Ultimate Iron Man, which is odd because I definitely had that “ugh this is mean and icky” vibe from the book, and I hated that a lot of that cynical, militarized, mean-spirited, jerkass attitude made its way into the MCU. Murderous jocks who mock each other with cruel jokes do not read as “heroes” to me. I disliked the Ultimate line in general, but I *did* like a lot of Hitch’s art/designs. And there’s a distinct “cool toy” vibe with this design, I loved the 3 3/4 version too.

So IM and definitely ROM are huge draws for me. I do love that Miles costume but the hips are looking a bit whack. Daken comes from an era past where I mostly gave up on Marvel (the Quesada/Bendis era of dominance was just not for me) but he looks like a fun toy. Banshee is welcome indeed, but somewhat less exciting since there isn’t really any “new” on him. Adam will be a lot of fun, especially letting various other figures wield the Infinity Gauntlet.

This whole wave got delayed two days from 4/21 to 4/23 on Amazon. Just got the emails.
It's funny how Amazon dates keep changing. I got the same emails. But over the last few days, my SWB figures went from the end of June, to the end of April/early May, to both of them coming Monday. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Marvel stuff show up earlier as well.

These Amazon emails are toying with my emotions. I want my new Bansheeeeee! (Honestly, I got a ton of figures early in April already, I could use a breather after a big POL from BBTS last week that got out of hand, but really looking forward to this wave.)

Not sure if it was confirmed in this thread or where ever - but I got my Daken this weekend and the claws can be removed as with every other Wolverine release. That means the 2-claw hands are an option. Not sure where someone confirmed the claws were part of the sculpt - but they aren't. This addressed my biggest gripe with the figure.

The 3 claw hands also look decent in person.
