Mini Comic Wave 2

I'd be willing to bet they reissue lab coat Beast at the same time they announce 97 Beast and put them on the same buck. Then they get another $80 from everyone.

Rachel arrived yesterday, she's already found her home book-ending my 60s-80s X-Men shelf (Angel to the other side). Man, she was worth the wait ... and the shelf resonates as "done" for me when I look at it, though I still need an 80s Psylocke.

... and a better Iceman, but he's like the carton of eggs from "Clerks" at this point.

Certainly not everyone. I have multiples of retro Beast already - in two different colors even... and I hate (HATE) the head design on 97 Beast and will never, ever buy that figure

Wave 2 has arrived!

Silver Surfer is pretty straightforward. Glad they reissued this version as I prefer the head sculpt and he looks better with no pins. Not perfect, as the body is till too small for this character. But the grip hands are great for holding his board, which is what this guy will be doing since none of my previous versions can.

Feral is fine. I don’t mind the less furry legs. I think her feline origins justify it, and no one complained when these limbs were used for Tigra. I could get her into decent poses on all fours mostly because the range of motion in her neck allows for it. Her claw hands were warped in the package but I never plan to swap them out for the fists. X-Force - Team complete!

I haven’t read Man Without Fear, so I don’t know the origins of this look for Murdock. But I already think he looks too bulky under the sweats. He has a very broad torso, broadened by the butterfly joints and shoulders. This is a strange iteration of his Billy club too, just one club with a rope looped through? Not my favorite of the wave. Where does he even go in a display? Who does he display with?

Widow is a beaut. Already could predict that based on the parts they’d be reusing. I just wish the sculptors would stop reversing hair parts. Putting her in the position to recreate the Jim Lee cover with Wolverine and Cap, her hair covers her face. They reversed Kitty’s part and Love Triangle Jean’s hair too.

Phoenix is outstanding. Just a really nice figure that actually kinda hurts to move around thanks to those spikes. Both heads look great, though the bangs almost look like they were shoved under her hairline at the last minute, as they leave tiny gaps on either side. Really weird. Excalibur - Team complete!

Beast is my fav, and they really didn’t skimp. Talk about the most improved figure. Looking at the original Hasbro version from the Nemesis wave? This demolishes it in every way. All pinless limbs despite the obvious reused parts (torso, shoulders, feet seem to be it). The paints on both heads seem to be lacking a little though? I think the calm head has canine fangs that aren’t painted. Or maybe that’s just fur. But the paint seems a bit faded on both, or the plastic quality is obscuring the sculpt. Range of motion in the neck isn’t great side to side, but up and down are decent. His neck actually seems nonexistent. But I loooove this figure and need Kitty and Colossus to complete yet another team!

I even dig the covers they chose for the comics. Worth noting, most of the comics just have the Marvel Legend logo printed in white on black background. Feral’s X-Force 1 actually has the double page cover printed front and back! Nice touch. I might have gone with plenty of other options for Astonishing X-Men as John Cassaday was such an iconic cover designer.

I got Wave 2 in as well, and I was surprised to get them all at once since Hasbro shipped them out in 2 different boxes at different times. I love all the X-Men in this Wave, and Rachel is such a cool figure that I am so happy to have. I feel like Beast steals this Wave for me though. I find myself looking at and admiring him the most.

So, yeah, even though I was most excited about Rachel, I'm going to say Beast is my favorite from the Wave. Surfer and Widow didn't disappoint either.

Also, I love the pics NORM.

I have a Daredevil shelf with a kind of costume Evolution going on, so I put him there. And I agree he is too bulky; He has thicker limbs than some Iron Mans. Its going for the same style JRjr has, which is neat and all, but makes him feel odd next to other Legends.

He doesn't display with anyone. He's a very unique and specific offering. I don't see them making anyone else from that book. Get some thug figures or the Joe cop to beat up. He feels like he was made for D.Amazing and the ACBA scene just to pose up with a horde of tracksuit guys.

His club is just his guide stick, if I recall. Might be wrong on that. But I do know the loop is there because in the comic when he debuts this look and his leaping around, he has it looped/strapped on his right shoulder so the stick hangs just behind his armpit. And it's cool you can do that.

This origin is....his origin. This is his first go at vigilantism, he doesn't have a thought out theme or costume. Doesn't have the clubs and line. Just sweats and a stick he already owned and he was really pissed off.

You'll note he's also blonde, because that's what they colored in that book. I think he's a great match to JRJR, but I agree he's also scaled wrong to the rest of the line.

I'm happy to have it and it's probably my favourite of the wave after Widow, but there's a huge 80s DD bias to both of those because he's my dude after X-Men.

Daredevil was my evergreen when I was reading floppies. If I was down to one book on my pull list, it was Daredevil. Started reading with Bendis' run, backtracked with the Kevin Smith and David Mack runs, followed with Brubaker and the Shadowland era. Last I read was the Mark Waid run, which I didn't finish, but will eventually. I haven't read any of the classic Frank Miller stuff, but am open to recommendations.

Definitely give MWF and Born Again a shot. Easy to source in trade. Something magical about those two and Batman Year One for me.

A top tier run is Ann Nocenti. Easiest to get in Omni right now. You'll discover a lot of what we love with DD came from her ideas.

Walmart sent five notifications last night that my preorder was delayed - from December 31st to January 1st.

Wow. And here I thought they'd actually move UP the dates since they already have the product in their warehouses.

I'm holding out for the $24.99 price on these, even though I just redid my shelves and left spots open for Beast, Rachel and Feral.

Miller wrote and drew DD from 168–191, and he did the art only from 158 to 167 with a fill-in issue in there somewhere. This was his classic run, but he then returned for essentially a mini-series within the main title with Born Again, writing issues 227–233 with Mazzucchelli doing the art. I think both are worth reading but 168 to 191 is the place to start.
