Mattel DC Figures

Do you guys know if Mattel will cause Spin Master to be done with the DC license by next year too? I know next year McFarlane won't be making DC figures due to Mattel getting back the license. But if they got the Master DC License, will Mattel be making the kid stuff as well? Thus, making this the last year of Spin Master DC toys?

I just never have heard or read anything about Spin Masters fate with the DC license since Mattel got the rights back.

I assumed Spin Masters is done, and Mattel will want to be making the kids toys as well, especially with this new DC Cinematic Universe trying to launch. But I just hadn't heard any confirmation.

Assuming they do waves of 6 figures like with their WWE Elite series, I'm hoping we generally get 2 female characters a wave, with a normal-ass Wonder Woman in the first wave. Send a message that things are different than they were under Todd.

I say generally since movie waves will obviously be limited by the cast of the movie. I'm not saying they should bend over backwards to fill a quota or anything, but the handling of female characters is something Todd obviously drew a lot of flak for. Realistically, any superhero toyline is going to be majority male, but even so it's fairly easy to do better than Todd

Man, if Mattel did waves of six and just out the gate did a classic Trinity, Joker, Lex in his purple and green suit, and Cheetah? I know that might be considered blowing your... y'know, too soon, but I'd say that would set the tone immediately. Go with the Jada Street Fighter pattern of "we know what you want, here it is, now would you like more?" Because even getting those six out of the way immediately, you open the floodgates for the rest of the Justice League, their rogues galleries, their supporting cast... And you immediately give each hero someone to punch on your shelf.

Any idea when we can expect Mattel's first figures at cons? Or promo images? I'll take what I can get.

I don't think McFarlane showed anything before Mattel's contract expired, so may be the same here. The first McFarlane releases did leak, but in name only, there were no pictures.

They would have to come out with a classic passing Trinity, one or two villains, and a deeper cut to get my attention.

And even then I want to see some sort of quality boost up from Elites and New Eternia. Both lines come so close but still feel behind in the contemporary market.

I'm here for it, but Jada and yeah, even Hasbro, have upped the game in ways, and they already had a lead with me.

I genuinely love Masterverse but even still, they do feel a generation behind Jada, Classified, Legends, and Black Series for me. Would love to see Mattel take that next jump forward with their new DC figures.

One of the things I really dug about DCUC was the wave loadout.

A-List character
2 related characters to said A-List
Fan favorite
Deep cut
BAF related to somebody in the wave

I would really like it if it stuck to something like that. I'm even fine with every wave not having a BAF and just have deluxe offerings every so often.

Check your Magic 8 Ball. TM Mattel.

Not liking Todd is understandable. Believing Mattel is coming to the rescue is dubious. A big fat licensing deal doesn’t automatically guarantee a better product.

Anyway, we won’t know anything for quite awhile. Meanwhile Todd is doing what he should’ve done from day one. Killing it. Ugh. I hate this.

FWIW, Mattel made the only DC figures I currently have on my shelves (DCUC). I know this will be a different line, but that is the big ol' bone of hope that I'm chewing on.

Yeah, if Todd had done the 2025 character selection from the start I would’ve been thrilled. His limited scope of characters early on really took the wind out of the sails for me.

But even if Mattel can hit their Masterverse quality and character range I’ll be interested.
