Mattel DC Figures

I'd buy this wave. I think a slightly more recognizable anti-batman would do better, but Wrath is fine.

I considered Prometheus, but he’d be pretty work-intensive.
I figure most of the “main” Bat-villains can practically headline a wave all on their own, and that bench of mains is like almost a dozen deep at this point.
I also considered putting Harley Quinn in that slot, in her classic leotard look and debuting a average/athletic female body.

Hmmm. I do like the idea of classic Harley. Not only because there are so many Harleys we can still get later down the line, but this also ups the number of women in wave 1.

See but then if I put Harley in, I’d want another super-obscure entry in place of Wrath, so I think I’d sub out Steve and sub in Angle-Man.

Is this based on something new, or is this from the interviews a few weeks back where Todd said on camera that they are still negotiating with WB and Mattel? I'm highly skeptical that Mattel would consent to McFarlane continuing to do Multiverse in any fashion. Maybe they get to keep doing the DC Direct items like Super Powers, DC Retro and BTAS, but I think it is more likely they just keep non-toy items like statues and props that aren't a direct competition and Mattel has no interest in.

It just doesn't make any sense to me that Mattel would want to compete directly with McFarlane on action figures if they have any say in the matter.
I'm not sure. To be clear, I don't believe it. I think Todd is lying to give his customers hope and sell more toys until McFarlane loses the license. He's a salesman at heart.

My only point was that if Mattel is considering it at all, it means their line is 6".

I'd like Todd to keep at it, if only because he's finally gotten his act together and announced a bunch of characters I want in their classic looks. If he'd been making figures like Mister Miracle and Deathstroke all along, I'd own a lot more McFarlane stuff right now.

I'm very cynical about whatever Mattel has to offer. I think their character selection won't be much different from McFarlane's (modern-ish and Batman heavy), and the engineering on their other lines leaves a lot to be desired.

I haven't seen this week's Weekly yet. Is this based on something new, or is this from the interviews a few weeks back where Todd said on camera that they are still negotiating with WB and Mattel? No, I just gleaned that from interviews back at Toy Fair. They have a year and half to go and a lot of "will they/won't they" to sort through, but I feel the same. Mattel's not going to want anything remotely resembling competition. But then, without knowing specifics, WB makes that call. My initial reaction to the news was dang, they are going TMNT with it. Or G.I. Joe. Spinmaster keeps doing the smaller line, McFarlane keeps the larger scale, Mattel slips in-between, but that's too much cross contamination in the toy space. All three would want to be in the main aisle. IF, and I feel like it's a huge if, if they allow McFarlane to keep some slice of the action figure license, maaaaaaaaaaaybe it'll stick to the specialty market and brick and mortar electronics, gearing more towards adult collectors while Mattel gets the main toy aisles? Or side step to statues. As much as I want to hate the Marvel ones I find myself picking up the random one and staring at others. A matching DC line would be neato.

Okay so we have ourselves a wild Robo sighting. Don't anybody get alarmed and by all means do not show him any flocked action figures and he may stick around. The key is to build trust. Leave out some food and maybe some figures (again, no flocked ones). Slowwww and steady.

Awesome to have Robo around.

Not sure it means that WB is just allowed to make that call. I mean they are of course allowed to technically but that would be offering something to Mattel of wildly different values and they would respond accordingly. One would think all the basics of that negotiation are done with an announcement. Seems wild to think this isn't all decided already and just highly unlikely.

Oh no, as always I'm just rambling, I am far from anything resembling a lawyer. Gotta think Mattel wants it buttoned up as much as possible. It's just odd for Todd to be rocking and rolling like he has been, pumping out Batmans and Supermans and then a lot of other DC characters, appearing with DC related things and Jim Lee when he can, then boom, rug pulled. Maybe just negotiating tactics. Maybe the writings been on the wall for a bit. They did have TMNT and Mortal Kombat Klassics on stand-by as soon as the announcement hit.

Either way, it'll be interesting. I can say I'm happy with my DCUC, all looking Who's Whosey in a display. I can say I'm content with what I got from McFarlane, especially the deeper dives announced at WonderCon. But then I'm sure Mattel's new offerings will be all shiny and new and I'll have to dip toes there too. The cycle continues.

I'll miss mile long word salad titles though, if things go that way.

Man, I loved Who’s Who as a kid (and still do). I spent a whole Christmas vacation reading all 26 issues of the original Who’s Who after having them delivered COD (Cash on Delivery), back when that was still a thing.

Maybe that is why I Iike DCUC so much more than McFarlane? Asoka the Geek posted an image of miscellaneous McFarlane Supermans recently, and it looks like a mishmash of 10 different lines/scales. And to be fair, DC Direcf was just as bad. DCUC figures look like they belong together as part of the same universe.

Yeah it will be sad if my DCUC collection is slowly picked off by Mattel the way Hasbro did my TB Legends. I told myself I’d keep 2 displays but time and space was never going to allow that. Still prefer a few TB to their Hasbro counterparts; sure the same will happen here too. Hell I like a Kirby dimension Darkseid. I think I might put the DCUC Darkseid BAF on my McFarlane shelf the way I use Series 2 TB Thing with my Selects. Ugh .. then I think about how McF’s Kalibak is too big (but cool)
