Masters of the Universe: Origins

Its funny to be on the opposite side of the coin on this. It's clear I'm in a minority but I legitimately don't give a shit about Dragstor or Blast Attack or Spinwit and Dipshit...

I am much more energized by Sharella and Vypor and the stuff that expands the collection. I understand why people want the vintage re-dos completed, and I think if this line were still getting regular retail support with multiple waves per year being stocked it would be easier to do some of each... it feels much harder to wait when its one figure on-line every month or two.

That said there isn't a single vintage character they could make now that I would need to have but every new Snake Man or Preternia character or even Filmation 'never weres' like Kol-Dar is an instant purchase for me.

It probably isnt smart to cater to me and ignore the vintage recreationists, but if they were doing the same single figure on-line release pattern and it was just vintage character after vintage character I would tune out for sure.

Its not that I don't want people like KD to be happy, but Mattel's current strategy is definitely aimed directly at me.

It's things like you mention that keep tempting me to get into this line. I haven't yet, aside from the TMNT crossover stuff, but I'm constantly eying things like the concept sketch series or that army builder 4-pack and wondering which pebble will finally start the avalanche...

Yeah... that Horde concept set was so cool I bought two... one for my 'vintage/origins display' and another to reverse engineer those characters into my Classics collection. In fact I have bought doubles of Vypor and Reptilax and Kol-Dar and the Rulers of the Sun for the same reason. They actually sell me more figures when they do something even classics didn't do.

Speaking of the concept stuff, we should be getting concept Sy-Klone before too long. I have seen reviews for him online, and I think his official ship date is next month. Like July 23. But maybe we'll get him sooner.

I know she's super random and not a huge want but I ended up ordering Sharella just to add another female character to the collection because there are so few. Gave myself a bit of a start because I had the page open, went to get a cup of coffee, got distracted until three minutes past the hour and she was listed as sold out - refreshed the page and had no trouble ordering her though. Bit of a jolt like: there's no way she's "sold out in three minutes" popular, right? Nope, just needed a refresh.

I'm actually not a Fright Zone fan at all but..... maybe!

I really don't know where I would fit this in. I already have 5 Castle Grayskulls, 4 Snake Mountains, 2 Fright Zones, Crystal Castle, and Eternia in the MOTU room. There is only so much space and playsets take up a bunch.

I can't wait to buy this.

Fright Zone is such a weird play set. At least the original was. This one definitely increases the real estate value with an interior, but it feels like the equivalent of a back alley. Not a home base for the Horde. Maybe the inconspicuous entrance of their home base. The Horde deserved more.

Man.. the way Mattel has me contemplating dropping $100 on a playset because I want the creature it comes with is wild.

Like there's no way that six legged lizard is worth a benjy... but how can I get it otherwise... I dont even have room to display the playset.

I suppose I could buy it and resell the playset after extracting the lizard, but after auction fees and shipping costs I moght be better off trying to buy the creature loose.

That really is a nice update of the vintage puppet. I love when Mattel does things like this and Moaty.

I didn't have the original Fright Zone, so I don't have any nostalgic attachment to it. $100 seems a bit much. But the monster is probably a $20-25 figure on its own, so it does become more justifiable overall.

I haven't ordered Sharella due to the membership surcharge. I didn't want He-Ro, so I haven't joined. And Sharella isn't necessarily something I feel justifies a $10 add-on feel. I'll try and hold off until some of the items previously on-sale, like Masterverse Snout Spout, go on sale again. Or maybe at least wait until Fright Zone goes up for order.

Regarding the remaining vintage MOTU characters. Those characters are so low down the totem pole of popularity. Comparing them to the main cast of TMNT or Star Wars is a very disingenuous argument. This isn't even an apples to oranges debate; it's oranges to apple seeds. Dragstor does not compare to Splinter or Princess Leia. And yes, Rio Blast wasn't an instant sellout. He's friggin Rio Blast, a character who was likely divisive from the get-go. Hurricane Hordak is a variant of a character who already has been released. Would it have been ideal to have the remaining vintage characters come out closer to the more robust sales period of Origins? Sure. But the line put out so many figures, something is going to be left behind or pushed out farther. Less popular characters are always going to have niche limited sales, so it probably makes a lot more sense to offer them exclusives through a website vs clogging pegs at retail and threatening a line's success. Honestly, and this is just personal preference, but Two-Bad seems like the only character who should have come out sooner.
