Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Elba’s awesome. The only issues I tend to have is if there is something that I consider an iconic trait of the character or the character’s design that is changed but that typically comes from a design or story standpoint and not a casting standpoint. And for those instances I will typically still give the movie a chance.
I get it. I mean, when I was a kid I dug the original Conan movies, but it really bugged me that he had brown hair in the flicks instead of black, because he was always described that way in all of the books. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but it's kinda like casting someone with brown eyes to play Sinatra...he's Ol' Blue Eyes for a reason!

In modern times, I haven't cared much for the MCU's take on Flash Thompson, not because they changed his race, but because Flash not being a big ol' muscleheaded jock just doesn't seem right. Didn't ruin those films for me, but it is one aspect of them I don't care for.

The iconic traits are really way more important than what color the skin is...UNLESS it's important to the character. 99% of the time, it really isn't important at all.

I’m honestly a little surprised Elba wanted to do this role at all. I heard he didn’t love playing Heimdall, though I don’t recall if it was because he didn’t get enough screen time, or he was just tired of genre roles.
I don't know from what I have seen of Elba in interviews, etc. I don't see him being all that discerning about his roles. I'm not saying he is a bad actor, or one of those actors who comes across as high on himself and his acting. Quite the contrary he seems like a pretty cool, fun guy without much pretense. Well at least that is how he comes across.

I think it might be some combination of "take the work" ethic and being in a position now where he can choose to do something because he wants to and maybe MOTU is something he has a soft spot for ( he is 53 so even in the UK he probably had exposure to MOTU growing up)

I found myself way more engaged with Home Trilogy's Flash Thompson that any other version of him. Bullies come in all shapes and sizes, and this version was entertaining and more memorable to me than the Raimi version. He had more depth, funnier lines, and a relationship with Peter that forced more interaction.

Flash Thompson isn’t exactly one of my favorite characters of all time, but I’ve got no problem with him being any ethnicity/background.

I *do* hate nerdy-weasel MCU Flash, though. But then again, I honestly don’t care at all about the inserted supporting cast for Spidey in the MCU: they feel like intentionally-forgettable placeholders for whenever the Sony mess gets sorted and they can actually use *real* Spidey characters instead of knockoffs and legacy villains from other series.

He actually spoke pretty candidly about this and there was a lot of factors. He expressed having a lot of fun working on Ragnarok. But he basically got actor's whiplash because he had to do stunt-shooting right off the back of wrapping filming on Mandela, which obviously was a more 'walk around and talk' character piece.

And yeah, he definitely said he would have liked a bigger role (or, I suppose, for Heimdall to have a bigger role).

Soon to see if Amazon pulls through on the Masterverse waves that everyone else seems to have in hand already. First one says arriving Thursday, second says the 2nd.

Who do you have shipping this week? I broke my Despara from BBTS and ordered one from Amazon in a snit fit the other night but wasn't supposed to ship until February something.

Mine hasn't actually shipped, to be clear. But it insists Thursday will be the day.
Oh yeah. I'm just being impatient with my own order cos I broke the figure less than five minutes out of the package and getting my hopes up unnecessarily.

My local comic book store had Adora, Dragstor and Keldor this weekend. I picked up Dragstor and left the other two. I was going to get Adora also but just didn't like how she looked in person.

My MAA also got canceled by Walmart.
