Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

I’d love to see [whoever that meathead is] say that to Fisto.
The actor’s name is Matthew Willig. He guest starred on the episode “Bullies” on “My Name is Earl”, where that image is from. He’d actually make a good live action Fisto.

I don't have many connections/friends inside Mattel, at least the Masters side. I wonder what the likelihood of them doing figures from the new upcoming movie will be. No way they don't...right?
Quite a few years ago now I would have said you'd be crazy to even suggest Mattel would pass up the opportunity to use media buzz to sell toys. Then Netflix had an incredibly successful She-Ra cartoon that ran for 5 full fucking seasons and Mattel refused to even acknowledge it existed. So under this version of Mattel leadership? Who fucking knows.

Especially after the utter failure of the toyline for the Netflix He-Man kids' cartoon, it would not surprise me if they're gunshy now about supporting media with toys. Still, I'd expect at least a movie or movie-ish He-Man in Masterverse. And probably Skeletor. I'd say anything else is up in the air. And even if we do get more, I wouldn't be surprised if it ONLY happens two years after the movie comes out -IF- the movie does well. Then the line will fail because the movie is long gone and no one really cares anymore.

Mattel gotta Mattel.

Just to play devil's advocate, Mattel did acknowledge the She-Ra Netflix cartoon by making a series of dolls. It's nitpicking because obviously you meant action figures, but I can understand why Mattel would focus on a doll line for that particular cartoon over making action figures. Mattel made quite a few dolls based on the cartoon including SDCC exclusives. They were stacked in B&M for a while, I'd see them every time I looked down the doll isle, they had store presence. They were also very popular, for a few years they were everywhere on "doll social media".

Nice! Mantenna will make a great New Eternia figure.

In other news, it was interesting today reading Mattels plans for the future. As it is similar to Hasbros plans. Make less toys themselves, and license out more of their IP's to others so they can make the toys.

It also sounds like Mattel wants to get into making more movies, whereas as Hasbro seems to be shying away from that aspect of the game.

It's crazy that Hasbro and Mattel are planning to make less and less toys. It makes total sense, don't get me wrong. But I guess childhood Super Camel just never thought the day would come.

Mantenna is exciting news. I wish we could get a Leech redo at some point though. He has to be the most disappointing New Eternia figure they've made. Just way too small.

I saw somewhere photos of a new 1987 movie Blade. Based on the box art they were guessing we might get the rest of the missing movie characters. Hopefully they re-release the ones they already did. Beast man is crazy expensive

Considering Mattel just got the DC license again, that make no sense to me. Farm out your own IPs, but acquire other ones to spend MORE money on instead? Do they have such little faith in their own IPs that they aren't worth spending the money and taking a risk?

Wow... I love the New Eternia Leech figure. Its one of my favorite recent Masterverse figures. I love that he isn't super wide and don't feel like he needs to be large - leeches aren't big critters, after all.

There are more applications outside of the action figure market. For example, all the Barbie crossovers with "high-end" (read: Overpriced) fashion brands, and Hasbro Barbie Play-Doh Playsets which, apparently, will be a thing this summer. On the flip side, Hasbro loans out Transformers to Mattel to make Transformers Hot Wheels.

I'm guessing that they don't want to scare off investors by saying they're leaning further into making toys (which has been down the last few years compared to 2021-2022) and are leaning into the "guaranteed" money in licensing out IPs.
