MAFEX DC Figures

Thanks. I was so close to getting him out in time. Well, I knew the risk. Doubt Amiami is going to be in the mood to refund already paid orders.

Their announcement specifically says they're not refunding orders already paid, but that they will store them for you indefinitely. Terrible news if you want the figure soon, but it's better than forcing you to ship at an insanely elevated rate. Shipping prices should come down, but it could take months for that to happen; possibly even 6 to 12 months or more. Who knows.

Or maybe the Supreme Court sides with the federal court that decided Trump can't do these tariffs and this problem goes away on its own. We'll see. Based upon the way the presidential tariff law reads the Supreme Court SHOULD rule against Trump, but it comes down to what Roberts, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney-Barrett feel like doing since Alito and Thomas always vote along political lines on issues like this. I would slightly bet the court rules against Trump on this, but it'll be close so I wouldn't bet much on it.

i love a lot of mafex figures, but prices in america aren't great

I assume you meant "they're great again." 🤪

By which I mean learn to love those high BBTS prices because they're a bargain compared to shipping from Japan for the foreseeable future. Ideally all we'd be paying extra is the new 15% tariffs on Japanese goods, but right now all of the shippers are charging through the nose for all of the new hoops they have to jump through. Eventually their lost income from shipments plunging in number will force prices down, but who knows when that will be.

So for now it's all BBTS and EE. What other American companies sell Mafex? Various Amazon sellers do and Nerdzoic does, but Nerdzoic isn't an option because they charge immediately instead of when they get the figures like BBTS and EE do so you can't cancel pre-orders. I'd like a domestic option besides BBTS and EE, but I'm guessing they're mostly it for now.

My black Knight Crusader Batman is also trapped in Japan with Nin Nin. They need to figure it out ASAP, seems like all the other major players (HLJ, etc.) already have. Frustrating

If $80 shipping on a $90 figure is "figuring it out," then sure, HLJ has "figured it out."

None of them have this figured out is the sad, stark reality of buying Japanese imports for the foreseeable future. 😭

I am worried about my DC Mafex at HLJ, but I asked a different site about a different toyline I just started to get into before this bullshit, and this was their response.

This is where my learning disablities/arrested development comes in. I don't understand this stuff enough to correctly interpret their response if English was their first language (and no shade to them - I'm uni-lingual, so I'm honestly jealous they can speak this much of a non-native language), so I definitely don't know how to interpret it as is (EDIT: which is grammatically flawless as is - I'm more worried they might not have understood my incoherent rambling based on less grammatically sound responses I've gotten from them in the past when I had a broken part that needed a replacement).

Can someone smarter than me (not difficult) help me, please? 🥺

She ignored your question and left whatever import fees you have to pay to other people down the line.

Which--to her credit--isn't her fault. She could have warned you about what you're in for and that's to her discredit, but the whole situation certainly isn't her fault in the slightest. But she piled onto the pile of shit by not educating you about it--but again, to her credit--she could have been fired for if her employers found out that she educated you about a situation that cost those employers some money.

Interesting. They just shipped my Spidey, and I didn’t pay that much (using DHL).

In any case, you’re right, it’s going to be like this for a while…

Well, I didn't think the problem was going to be on the store's site.

I thought it would land in U.S. customs, and then be held hostage until the fucking ransom was paid.

Even if this happens, we still have an issue with de minimis, no?

Maybe. There was no tariff on Japanese imports to the US before Trump imposed one so if the Supreme Court strikes down his tariffs then my guess is it all goes away since it won't apply to that avenue of package travel and the shippers all abandon everything they're building up for now.

But Trump has control of the entire Congress so it could all come back whenever he wants if he just tells them to pass a new set of tariff laws. Guess we'll see what happens.

Wtf? When did you tell it to ship, ie which specific date did you initiate the shipment? Was it within the last week?

I invite anyone reading this to go fill a cart on HobbyLink Japan, go to check out, and look at what shipping charges they try to assess. When I did that or just tried to ship my private warehouse I got a gigantic shipping charge.

I only have one item in my PW, and it only gave me one shipping option, DHL (which they just added back, and it says "On Sale!!"), $46, which I don't know if it's odd or not because I've never tried to ship just one item, and I usually try to do 4 or more at once, and that's usually the price, because then I justify it by dividing it up amongst the items (and that usually still keeps them cheaper than BBTS before tax & shipping).

That's JUST the shipping. Go further into checkout and you'll see duties and some other BS charged. Your total should be around $80, probably a bit more than that.
