General Marvel Legends

I worked at a movie theater the year Batman Forever came out, summer after my senior year of high school. I saw that movie repeatedly for free. I enjoyed everything about it, from the casting, the glam, the soundtrack, loved it all. I also loved both Burton movies and didn’t see this one as that much of a departure tonally. Batman & Robin, on the other hand, I don’t talk about.

I thought that was what they were going to do when they first talked about the Maximum series, but that has been slow rolled.

I don't get whey they don't have some gateway drug Legends for the dozen or so major characters out every Christmas for $20 (no extra heads/hands, just the basics) and on Pulse or Amazon year around.

For indie art at cons you can get some benefit to the fact that any individual customer can't be sure you'll return to that show, but I've definitely seen people ask "are you local" as a way to see if they can not spend money on you then because "you'll be around at the next show, right?".

I do that with Toronto talent but only because I want to budget for the people that are hard to get, and if it's convenient to just get them paid during the slower season, I budget for it.

Like the McFarlane Superman/Batman figures for Ross - just the figs, unique, smaller packaging, $12.99.

Ah, but then their pricing grift would be EXPOSED!!!

Dwight just mentioned in an interview recently that that first Retro wave was a last-minute stopgap when something else happened and they had to get figures out ASAP. That's why there was no new tooling. I wonder if that accidental wave did us more harm then good since it sold well at zero effort.

But everything else still works for me. I also remember marking out when they mentioned Metropolis.

Richard Moll is my quintessential Two-Face and is the main reason I love that iteration of the character. He was able to do menacing and disturbed and pathetic all in the same character without being "zany" like so many other Bat villains. Ron Pearlman as Clayface, Roddy McDowell as Mad Hatter, John Glover as Riddler, and Arleen Sorkin are all quintessentially MY definitive iterations of their respective characters.

Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill were definitely the obvious standouts, but for me Two-Face became a favorite of mine thanks in part to Bull from "Night Court."

Yeah, I thought we would be getting Maximum announcements regularly and that they would probably cover these needs. All my confidence in the subline is sapped with how slow it is. I know they only promised three this year. I know that there's probably three next year that are leaked but... I just thought it would be like a steadier clip. Clearly it's not what I wanted it to be.

Oh it totally makes sense from the customer side, it's just one of those things you have to contend with when selling stuff. I'm a bit dramatic about it, but it's not like I think the customer is actually being a jerk when budgeting their money that way.

3 a year seems a reasonable expectation assuming they continue with a good chunk of the line being top to bottom new bodies/accessories. If we assume the line breaks down to 1 major unaligned/street level Marvel Character, 1 Avenger, and 1 X-man character, I could see us getting Thor, DD, and either Wolverine, Cyclops or (if they do villains) Magneto.

You're right, there's good stuff buried throughout the movie but it's lost in commercialism. I keep hearing folks in Batman groups calling for the "Schumacher Cut" but I don't know if that can save it.

I LOVED the aesthetic of the Tim Burton films but Forever had its own look which I appreciated. Maybe a bit less neon and, of course, less nipple. But it was much more colorful and comic book-y. I have a soft spot for the Forever Batmobile. Agreed on Kilmer's Bruce Wayne.
 
In terms of Maximum, I believe that we were specifically told 3 per year with Thor and black suit Spidey leaked for '26 and Magneto heavily hinted at or implied.
 
I'll take a look at the Magneto when it shows, but I'm not inspired by any of those Maximum offerings. Hasn't Spidey's black suit had enough reuse lately? I realize it's popular but good grief, whats the change? They're going to paint the bottoms of his feet blue and send it back out?
