It almost feels cruel or ghoulish to post this one right now, but I also think it's a bit cathartic, because the guys who step up in real life deserve their moment in the sun in fiction, too.
Code Name: Lifeline (Disavowed)
File Name: Steen, Edwin C.
Primary Military Specialty: Medic
Secondary Military Specialty: Rescue Operations
Birthplace: Seattle, Washington
Rank: E-5
Subject returned to civilian life after disbandment of the GI Joe Unit and enrolled in courses that would allow him to pursue an advanced degree in medicine so that he could use his combat medic skills in non-combat life. He has, however, become embroiled in the rising number of protests to President Lewis's administration. Agents have identified Steen as both an observer and volunteer medic at many anti-Lewis demonstrations. While he has taken no violent action against the administration, any former Joe, even someone relatively unimportant and rarely engaged in actual combat, is cause for concern. Surveillance assigned to Steen have been instructed to make note of his known associates not just to track his connection to other Joes but also any civilian protesters who may become persons of interest in the future.
"Of course Lifeline's an activist. You know why he enlisted in the first place, right? Because being a paramedic in the civilian world had too many restrictions on it. He wasn't allowed to help people ENOUGH working for the FIRE DEPARTMENT, so he decided to run into combat to patch us back together. Dude's not a pacifist, he's filled with righteous anger because he thinks nothing should get in the way of doing the right thing. We haven't brought him in on the work we're doing yet not because we don't trust him but because he, just like always did as a Joe, keeps running into danger to be a hero, and we're not ready to cover for that smoke yet. I just hope he stays safe. We're going to need him when the rubber meets the road, and there's no doubt in anyone's mind he'll step up when we ask."
