G.I. Joe Classified Series

Looking at the price increase in a vacuum, sure it's been about two years and a bit since the last price hike. But that price hike seemed like a ripoff then, and this one even moreso now. Maybe it's because I have so many QC issues; if these guys were "perfect", I'd be buying almost everything. But I suppose I will take to the dark side, Youtube reviews, from now on. Like I wouldn't complain at all about Crystal Ball, Monkeywrench being $28. But it's a high price to army build or YOLO a wave not knowing if the accessories/figures are gummy, the arms can't lift to the side, etc.

Thankfully, anything I want to army build beyond a couple of figures has already been made in the line. I suppose some comic inspired Cobra Troopers would be tempting (with yellow harnesses and red face mask). All the specialist Vipers have a cap for numbers for more. Maybe 3 at the most, but I'm fine with a single one of each. Hell, they can essentially just be characters that way.

I've been good at avoiding most of the sub-team repaints, so that's at least some releases I can skip. Although, I'll be tempted by desert and arctic variations of existing figures/characters. I imagine most arctic versions will at least need new parts, ie jackets.

My current grievance is Flint. I haven't seen any others in hand, but the face printing on mine seems too bright and crisp. Every other recent figure I have there's like ... It's not weathering. Just how it's applied. It looks a little bit more realistic and detailed for the scale. Mercer and Sarge came out great. But Flint looks like an actual cartoon character.

I have seen this before and it turned out that the cartoony figure must have had like a double printing that made it pop.

Kinda same for me, but if they do female Vipers, I'm ready to go for five or six, depending on how they're released. Other than that, I think I'm going with each trooper etc being a specific character.

Ugh... Just thought of how to reconcile female CGs, so maybe I'll get two to go with my pair of fellas.

Is it like the faces in Crazylegs and Ripcord that came with the Dragonfly?

I always thought that sculpt was a bit odd. He's smizing way too much, for one. Second, what are these insta-girl eyebrows he has going on? They don't look hairy they look like tattoo eyebrows. So part of it seems like a inconsistency between the sculpt (which isn't the worst) and the color/paint design (which is bad). Kind of like how some figures have way too much blush on their cheeks. Personally I'd fix up the brows with paint, add a tiny bit of a wash to his face just for variety, and flat coat it with matte sealant. That's the kind of thing that makes me wait to buy; if I'm going to spend an hour fixing him up, I'd like to get him on sale.

Just an aside, had to look up the initial render to see what went "wrong" (which to me confirmed that the paint is the main culprit) but seeing stuff like this on "Toy Habits"...I think this opinion was very common, also the opinions "new = better" or "retro = what i like" are normal in this hobby...but NEVER for a second did I think this Flint looks better than the first Flint. First Flint rocks! No disrespect to anyone who prefers the Retro, just my opinion. But it's a proven fact that Tiger Force Flint looks the coolest.

I've gotten better since Ru started making fun of me for losing track of my own preorders last year, but I got a shipment from Target today and was all excited thinking it was the new Daredevil having forgotten I also got the diver set with that discount sale Target had last week so I could use all four of the different diver heads in my setup. It's embarrassing that it happened at all, but hey, it's been more than a year since I had a "what the fuck did I BUY?" moment when a package showed up.

Anyway, gotta give code names to all the divers as they'll be individual characters. The black-suited diver is already Dogfish, so I'm thinking the two yellow divers are Deep Blue and Thresher. Reds maybe Anglerfish and Barracuda?

Oh, THAT is the foundation of our friendship heh.

Part of me feels a little bad for giving you shit because it's sorta like you buy yourself surprise presents every now and then, and months later you get to see what gift you sent yourself. You're a wonderful, giving, spontaneous friend to yourself.

Daaaaamn Thresher is fucking great. Goddamnit who can I steal that name for? Your other names are fantastic, but that one really stands out to me.

Man I hope they make that Naval Officer from the cartoon. She will definitely be my Thresher.

Thresher for me is the one with the scar on his face because I always think of the way thresher sharks whip their tails around with enough strength to break skin. Deep Blue is the one with the ridiculously striking blue eyes. His teammates named him.

Just canceled my Night Viper order. Decided I didn't need two of these at that price, but of course I couldn't cancel just one, so I'm gonna chance it down the line. I can live without one if it comes to that. Just too much other stuff coming due or on order the next couple months that I care about more.
