G.I. Joe Classified Series: The Chatty Pointless Thread & Performance Art

When I saw Larry was attached to these and then looked at the figures I felt legitimately depressed about it. They're... objectively bad but not in a fun way.
Like.. so bad that they couldn't even resist 'what if we put the only girl in a belly shirt?' thing. And at least some of that was definitely written by a 12-year-old edgelord. Watch out for the DARK REAPERS. Not just regular 'reapers' guys. They're DARK reapers. Oooh. Spooky. And that is not card art that I would pay for. Like props to someone for doing art and everything - no shade for that. But I would not put that at the caliber required to put it on an actual product.

A few years ago, I wrote a children’s-theatre version of Red Riding Hood and recontextualized the woodsman as a Park Ranger who was on one with being “edgy” and had altered his badge and constantly insisted people call him “the DARK RANGER!!!!!” Then I spent the whole script ripping on him and in the end one of the “messages” was to be yourself and stop acting like an edgelord douche bag. Hired a great actor who absolutely understood the assignment and spent the whole run making the character a cross between Shatner and Will Arnett doing Batman. Great stuff.

It wasn't just Larry involved, but a bunch of the old guard:

I think it's cool that all these guys found a way to re-enter the toy world and contribute something again as an homage to what originally brought them to the dance. I'm sure a few of those will make fun action figures to add to your collection if you are an O-ring guy. But man, it just feels like these needed two or three more passes through extra eyeballs first.
And that belly shirt lady design should be tossed in a fucking wood chipper.

I see no difference between these and the late 80s Joes people are begging for in Classified.

I like a belly shirt as much as the next horn all but it’s just undignified here. I will say shipping a guy with a trash panda sidekick IS kinda hilarious though.

I guess I'm in the minority in thinking that these look pretty good. Sure there is some zaniness to the looks but it gives me 80s ARAH vibes which is good in my opinion for a 1:18 O-ring line that is clearly a homage to said line. Sure some of the figure designs are a little too derivative of existing figures but overall I like the look and feel of this line.

Will I get it? No. I'm all but out on O-ring outside of the odd item here and there and these hold no nostalgia for me that might push me to buy them.

Huh.

I have so many thoughts.
but I need those six inches!
Oh, we know.
And he’s done!
Full pics and file card bio in the customs thread, but here’s a taste:

I think they're close. Like, I kind of like wrestling dude, but it feels like he needed one more pass under the 'do we need all this design work on him?' table.
What, I think, is a bugbear in my brain with these is the attempt to mix that zaniness of the original line with a more modern aesthetic. It worked with the '80s aesthetic, especially when you factor in a lot of what they were doing is 'the 1990s and 2000s, through the lens of the '80s.' It just had a different look and feel than a lot (but not all) of this.

Super 7 is doing a Ninja Force Cobra Commander. I never realized that's what Ninja Force was missing.
To be clear, they are doing it in the ReAction+ O-Ring line. Along with Lady Jaye (no cap), Zartan with silver armor and color change, and Deep Six in Cutter's outfit.
