G.I. Joe Classified One-A-Day Beamish-Style Figure Poll - #122 - Night Creeper (EA Concept Art)

Somebody needs to explain to these artists that GI Joe is not a super-hero genre book. They dressing everyone like they’re costumed heroes and villains. These are both passes for me.

Day 113a - Ripper - (Devil's Due) (1/3/26)

Day three of Dreadnoks, starting with an alternate version of Ripper!

Losing Ripper’s signature ‘do is a huge mistake.
I don’t mind versions that provide more torso coverage or whatever for Zartan and co., but killing core distinguishing design elements is a no-no as as far as I am concerned. I’m thinking of that new sculpt era Zartan with the beanie hat. No, Hasbro. No.

The right side one looks like what would happen if Macho Man joined the 'Noks. I like the biker boots. The Cobra symbol hankey on his head looks dumb and also 'Noks shouldn't rock Cobra insignia. That's more of Devil's Due either not knowing what the fuck their doing, or not trusting the audience. Probably both.

Probably still a pass. But the right one is a soft maybe, because I could probably customize it pretty easily into something I like better. The left side one is stupid and I hate it.

I think this week is going to be “I would buy a variant on most Dreadnoks but do not like any of the comic book redesigns.” Both of those are weirdly boring to me for Ripper.

I just realized something... is right side Ripper wearing Buzzer's shirt? Why is he wearing Buzzer's shirt?

He also has Buzzer's saw in the left side one. I can only imagine what else of Buzzer's he has helped himself to.

I revise my statement from before. I'm fairly certain DD just doesn't have a fucking clue what they're doing and didn't know what G.I. Joe was before being allowed to make comic books.

Generic background Nok on the right. Batman goon that gets Robin's batarang to the face just after commercial break on the left. The right seems like a decent alt look, but doesn't exactly scream Ripper to me.

Love or hate Todd McFarlane, but while he was at Marvel I saw him give a talk where he said if you’re drawing someone else’s IP, do *something* to put your own spin on the character so everyone will remember your style but still stay true to the source material. That felt like great advice Devil’s Due didn’t follow. They try to over-design everything in their own style and it’s almost always objectively worse. Even ones that did work like Shipwreck completely abandon what made the original memorable and distinctive.
