DC Studios Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

I've been hearing all the gossip about Reeves, and I really hope he's doing alright. Not that it's anyone's business either way, but he's such a visionary, and I'd love to see him around for a good long while. Of course I'd love for him to be as involved as possible in part 2, but I guess if I had to choose, I'd probably want him as writer. Love it or hate it (I happen to really like it), The Batman was as epic and deep because of how well-written it was. Everything else- directing, cinematography, costumes, score, etc. was perfect as well, but I think the series would most benefit from having a unifying voice in the scripts, even if that means the visual style has to change and evolve as the series goes on.

Same here; I was not expecting to love season 1 as much as I did. I loved the storyline with his Dad, and the butterflys were appropriately creepy, and the opening title sequence? I never skipped it. I was kinda ambivalent toward the character in The Suicide Squad, but the show really helped him grow on me. That's kinda how I've been on John Cena over the last decade or so- I really wanted to not like him, but the guy just seems so fun. I like people that don't take themselves too seriously, which I think is why I've started to not really care for Dwayne Johnson. Anywho, Vigilante stole the show for me, though; such a shame we never got, and probably never will get, a Multiverse figure for him.

@joshsquash729 everything you just said is the same for me. Though I did like the character more than I expected in the movie. The part where he is excessively stabbing in the village but also his scene when he turns on them toward the end, dayum. But I especially agree on Vigilante. I don't think he did much that wasn't hilarious.

THIS.

Now I’m not a wrestling guy, and the over-the-top macho stuff of wresting turns me all the way off, so there’s that. But I’ve always gotten massive I-can’t-watch-this-shit ick from Johnson and guys who “act” like he does, so I was absolutely ready to hate Cena as an actor (and what I saw of his ring persona was certainly unwatchably odious to me), but I’ve been utterly charmed by him in his film roles. He’s got so much obvious heart and kindness that shows through, and it really does seem like going all the way back to Ferdinand he is trying to deconstruct and interrogate the performative hypermasculinity he comes from, rather than to enable it. And that certainly comes through in Peacemaker. It seems like a lot of male actors (Ryan Gosling, Jack Quaid, etc) are either skewering the macho-man image and/or playing the “lovable himbo”, and I think that is to their credit. At this point I’ll go see anything Cena does: he’s a solid performer, he’s funny without being cruel, and he’s game to be the butt of the joke with full humility. I’ve gained a lot of respect for him.

Also also ... this is big news ... Gunn is currently writing a new, unannounced DC film.

Me personally, I hope it's an old school fun World's Finest movie.

With the Composite Superman as the villain and the Legion of Super-Heroes as guest stars.

And if you absolutely hate that idea, don't lose any sleep. I rarely get what I want.

Put down the pitchforks and brickbats. You're good.

We seem to live in a day and age now where we'll get a teaser for the teaser. Then the teaser. Then we'll get a teaser for the trailer. Then the trailer.

Seems like a bit ... much. But then I'm from the last century so I'm probably not the one to ask.

I agree, but then I've come to avoid trailers and pre-movie discussion altogether in my dotage. I like to go in fresh on the rare occasion I make a trip to the theater.
