Figura Obscura

Yeah. My wife resists me putting any figure out of my office even just for holidays. Now I stand at green Druid Father Xmas leading his giant moose, Naughty/Nice Krampus, Santa and 2 reindeer. It will lead to some serious evil eye. Thinking of selling my two Xmas Carol figures as they don’t even make the cut and they just languish. I guess I have to pair back to the ancient myth and occasional horror figures from Figura Ob

I'm allowed Santa during Christmas and a 4H skeleton + statues of Wirt and Greg from Over the Garden Wall during Halloween. I might be able to get away with a 4H Nutcracker, should they make him.

While I want the Mouse King, I think I'm passing. It's hard to justify spending the money on something I won't display for more than a month a year.

I know how you feel, I got stuff allover. My youngest daughter lives with me and we have superhero, movies posters on all the walls in the apartment. My ex-wife made the mistake of saying to me in anger of course once, you don't get to spend money on you, you only spend on me and the girls. I had just returned from my third deployment, being shot at several times, IED's to watch out for, got our vehicles hit once. I kept that always in my mind and as soon as I could, divorced that b*tch.

You and Ana split up? Dang, I was hoping to be introduced someday.

Note for the Mouse King: it looks like the extra mouse heads can work without the giant hunched neck adaptor, but since they are angled towards the back, they'd be best suited for the new hinged peg. Which I wish, out of all the parts, they'd stock and sell separately. I've managed to nab a few on eBay but most are unreasonably priced. The dwarf neck peg would probably do the trick as well.

So the dream of mouse armies lives on.

Watched a few live group videos of the reveal yesterday and Jeremy did say that Ganesha, Jersey Devil, and the Mouse King all do not have any retailer editions planned at this time. Should demand warrant it, they’d consider them down the line but they aren’t in the plans for the foreseeable future. They felt they offered them too quick from some figures like Christmas Past, which was really just weeks after her original version.

Seems like a potentially good change now that these aren’t selling out with minutes anymore and most have the opportunity to order them now. Some of the variants have been really good choices like Frankenstein but not everything needs a second version.

So if you were waiting to see what might be the retailer version of any of this year’s figuras, don’t wait any longer to decide if you want the current versions as they’re the only planned ones.

I hate rodents, so I can’t stand this figure. I’d be very tempted to get a Nutcracker figure though. I guess I’d consider a Mouse King figure but only if there was already a Nutcracker figure to defeat it.

And I’d consider the Sugar Plum Fairy for my daughters.

I like the retailer exclusive Jacob Marley more than the Figura Obscura version. It would have been more awesome if it glowed in he dark. Personally retailer exclusive Anubis looks better than original to me. I have that on order. Anubis is the best of the bunch to me the bird and cat god are cool too. Maybe when bird comes available and cat is still around I’ll get them. Golden Monkey King is another one that I think improves on original design.

Thwipp!

Got a funny give and take with my partner - she ENCOURAGES me to buy nerd stuff, but it's gotta be thematic to be in rooms we share. My office is a terrifying display of action figures, hand-painted D&D miniatures, Lego sets, and art I bought when working at comic cons. Absolutely boxes on the floor at all times as I'm puttering and finding room in the recycling bin. But the Christmas stuff is welcome to be out on display, and like, Lego Rivendell looks like ART if you see it through our front window, it's crazy.

I think she'd have no problem with the Mouse King in the living room as long as he's in King mode. If I switch him to Skaven-lite, he's back in the office.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, since I haven't been getting the Christmas Carol figures, and I have no interest in starting a Nutcracker themed collection either. That having been said, the tease was total BS, and I can only imagine how crappy that feels to folks hoping to add to their Dickensian Christmas display. Not a cool thing for the 4H to do at all. Now, it has me thinking that they will probably alternate between these two for the next few years, so I'll be saving some money in that regard.

Tonight’s livestream they framed the Mouse King as the intermission of a 4 act play, with getting back to what we’re wanting afterwards so that really made it sound like

1) Ghost of Christmas Past will be next year
2) Scrooge seems to be unlikely at this point. Multiple times over the past week the phrasing has been about completing the Ghosts. The 4 act analogy seems to confirm that with 2 Ghosts done and 2 more to go.

As long as we get the rest of the Ghosts I’ll be satisfied but Scrooge would really tie the whole thing together. Jermey claims to be the biggest Christmas Carol fan so I’m sure he’d be pushing for a Scrooge to cap off the line. I could see that being another ‘intermission’ break between the ghosts and then do a whole ‘by popular demand’ when they get around to Scrooge. The fact ‘Scrooge’ has its own meaning in our modern vernacular demonstrates the importance and impact of that character. Sure, an old guy on his own doesn’t necessarily make an interesting action figure but when paired with the 4 others in context and he’s much more interesting to complete the set ups. So I think he’s the only iffy one right now but maybe a bit more down the line?

I wonder if maybe a Scrooge head might be the secret gift with the last ghost, so that people can cobble something together if they don't think he'll sell well enough to justify producing one themselves.
