Figura Obscura

Also, it being in the email like that is extra shitty, because that means they just did it to the people who care enough to get their emails.

Yeah, the leaning into the teaser being for Christmas Present is the bad part. Yeah, I’m disappointed it wasn’t him, but now that the initial shock is over, I’m digging the Mouse King. A cool figure is a cool figure. I think they didn’t do themselves any favors with that deak though. Many are likely passing on a great figure on principle, and I can’t blame them for that. The teaser hints nothing at Nutcracker or Mouse King. The tree and presents are generic Christmas enough to not really point to anything in particular other than the capitalization and phrasing emphasizing Present. Maybe next year we get a multipack and finish off Carol once and for all?

Like I said, I thought it was more of a lazy effort than anything — but that email teaser flies in the face of it. Really, really poor decision by whoever thought that up.

I did order a Mouse King, seeing in the Dork Lair video that you don't necessary need the collar or the "mane" piece (which I'm also not overly fond of) when displaying a single head was the final push for me. He'll be a Mouse King for the holidays and a creepy rat thing off season.

Honestly this makes me want to get the completion of the ghost from another source. Basically you need a jolly head sculpt on a large body with an amazing robe. They already have pieces to make Future ghost. Maybe Ramen can step in. Ha. Anyway. Mouse King looks cool.

Thwipp!

Looks like the Four Horsemen may have put themselves on the naughty list!

I think I said this before on the Fwoosh maybe, but the problem with doing a "line" within Figura Obscura is that it shuts out anyone not interested in A Christmas Carol for 4-5 years or more. That's a pretty big gap. I'm not sure how you fix that, though, without putting out more than one Christmas figure a year... which might be an ideal solution. They did do that with the Egyptian gods. To be honest, Figura Obscura certainly could be waves, at least so far as the potential goes for a lot of concepts. But then that also kind of jeopardizes the novelty, and potentially their fan bases' wallets.

The Mouse King looks most excellent. I wouldn't display him with the extra heads, too creepy, but I love that they gave you so many in the pack... because you can easily make mouse soldiers to go with him by popping those heads on other Mythic bodies, especially dwarves. Easily transform your display at Christmas time. That's a good deal. The upcoming dwarf 2-pack would make ideal mice companions for those looking to Nimh or Mouse Guard up their display. Pretty cool.

I am excited for the Nutcracker, even if he takes a few years to come out. I'm still waiting on a Santa's elves two pack, especially on those new imp bodies.

If they catch enough grief over this release from their fanbase then a multi-pack in 2026 would be a smart way to make up for it.

I don’t think Nutcracker will be much of a line beyond an addition of the Nutcracker himself. The Mouse King and Nutcracker squaring off would make a nice display.

If FO releases weren’t so much on the higher side, I’d be tempted to pick up another two of these for some Mouse King warriors/guards. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw something like that later on, maybe in ML?
Agreed. Curious to see their take on the Prince.

Already looking at how to make my own dark fantasy Clara via kitbash.

As a casual for the line, early on I dipped on their Facebook,.live streams, and even DorkLair (not necessarily him, but he has a co-host they discuss reveals with) because of the attitude they give.

I've never felt respected or even wanted by the people they put in front of mics or keyboards.

I have no ticket in the Christmas Carol characters controversy, since I wasn’t buying any. I do think Christmas items tend to be popular enough to be offered more than once a year. And if they only need one more Ghost, just make it and move on. Dragging it out too long is an odd choice.

The Mouse King is interesting. I prefer the warrior look. But $70 is crazy. At least if you could use the multiple heads to make a little instant mouse army, but it looks like you need to use the neck piece to make the heads work on other bodies. Neck ports are on back of mouse head versus bottom. So yeah…no easy mouse army.

I'm sure "PRESENT" was meant partially to lead in the direction of the ghost of Christmas Present, not denying that. But the Nutcracker was rather famously a Christmas present himself, a gift to Clara from her unc, Drosselmeyer. I thought it was a clever feint and don't really understand the ire over this (not referring specifically to you ManOfTheLamb, just arbitrarily responding to your post on the general topic). Looking forward nother ghost next year (or the Nutcracker Prince) but the green Santa Claus is PRESENTly pulling duty in my collection, along with the obvious choice for ghost of Future.

These are the things I would expect more ire over: 4HM price bloat and locking an army builder behind that price with 7 heads and only 1 neck adaptor.

I like the mouse warrior look... mostly. But just like with the heyna/gnoll, I hate how separated the neck piece is. Makes it look oversized and not a part of the characters body at all. So I'll likewise probably be skipping at the price.

Going to one of their panels at PowerCon was quite the experience.

I only dabbled in Cosmic Legions for a minute, so I went to the showing at the last PC, although, I really was only there for the NECA panel, which was following in the same room.

And boy...

They have a legion (no pun intended) of borderline cult members. They are so loyal to the 4H to the point of it being weird. I'm saying take a normal fandom (of which we know contain a multitude of awkward, antisocial dweebs) and amplify that times ten. And they have people that just...volunteer. Like, not getting paid, but just...offer their time in exchange for Lord knows what. A free figure or two? But it comes across as very little dog following around the big dog like the old Looney Tunes cartoon. It's kind of pathetic.

Overall, there's a level of sycophancy that I just don't get, and the worst part is that the 4H really seem to lean into it. They come across as very clique-y in their behavior, favoring the sycophants over just normal fans. Just an incredibly weird vibe.

Anthony Scott of ToyHype was sitting in front of my wife and myself, and as Cornboy was walking out of the room, Anthony hit him with a "Oh, GREAT panel, CB! Heck of a panel, CB!".

At this point, I looked at my wife, who was picking up on the same energy in the room that I was, and I pushed my tongue against my cheek to signify "Look at the blowjob this guy is giving him".

My wife loudly laughs, telling me that both Cornboy and Anthony saw me, and "CB" gave me the nastiest look. Ah well.

They said on Facebook that they had this planned out since last year. I think people would be less upset if they had shuttered the release of ghosts from the get go. If it was an every other year Thing, it would've taken forever, but knowing that from the start would've tempered expectations I think.
