Mattel DC Figures

Well, back to worried then lol

The articulation is nice, of course, and if these have import-style joints then that's great...but once it goes on the shelf then all I'm left with is how it looks, and if this is supposed to be Idris Elba and Alison Brie then I'm not left with a lot of confidence there.

It's only 2 figures though, so I'm not judging Mattel yet. Just concerned a little.

Head sculpts are consistently Mattel's weak point in their MOTU products. Not sure why. Even the ones that aren't supposed to look like anyone specific are often just ass-fucking-terrible.

My argument wasn't in support or opposition. It was a statement of fact: whether it meets the specific criteria of 'this' batsuit or 'that' batsuit, it is recognizably Batman, which is likely what they are going for.

I think the truth is somewhere close to the middle of the argument. Companies don't think kids care. There's ample anecdotal evidence to support that they do care (-I- cared as a kid). I imagine the truth is something akin to 'the amount of kids that actually care -AND- won't buy them because of it is vanishingly small.' That's probably true, if unfortunate for us. After all, to the earlier point; many of us bought the SHIT out of Kenner Batman figures and those designs were ludicrous.
Did I -want- a proper TAS Batman toy? Yes. Did that stop me from buying all the insane bright neon green and purple ones? It did not.

To be clear; I'm only trying to explain what I believe to be Mattel's modus operandi. I'm not saying whether I think any of their practices are good or bad.
 
For what it’s worth, the Batman design specifically looks like the “house style” that was used by Mattel *and* Spin Masters for their kid-focused lines. Batsuit with some piping, yellow belt, and the yellow-outline Rebirth-style symbol. I believe every single “basic” Spin Master Batman had that design, more-or-less.

That's pretty much what I've been worried about. With MOTU I haven't noticed it as much in particular, since those aren't based on real people, but you're right about the made-up ones often looking ass :ROFLMAO: That new Adora they just put out fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Every He-Man head has been terrible. Go look at the movie He-Man head. It's obviously not intended to look like Dolph, but it's clearly also not intended to look like a human person. Jesus Christ.
 
Oh, these are a kids line? Okay, that's somewhat reassuring then, I was looking at that pic earlier, seeing the complete lack of torso articulation and immediately ready to write the whole thing off.

I had a bunch of pages to catch up here and was interesting to note the comments by that guy who doesn't do imports at all. That could never be me because I demand as near damn it the best as possible, and cheap and gummy unpainted plastic, basic bitch cloth goods or rigid plastic capes, little-to-no accessories, honkin' big pins, and fugly waist/thigh swivels with over/underhang where the cuts turn are just ain't gonna cut it, babe. I'd rather pay a bit extra and get nice paint apps, wired/weighted cloth, well disguised yet above average articulation, and a decent set of accessories. If it means I have a more limited range to choose from, it's a trade off I'm willing to make. I'd rather have, say, no Firestorm than a second rate one that fails to do him justice.

Like sure, I could get, say, a TBS C-3P0 in dull, swirly gold plastic. But why do that when I can get a gold chrome SHF one who looks like he walked right outta the throne room onto my shelf? I have standards, darling.

The difference here is that, in contrast to a lot of previous 'there's a collector line and a kids' line' situations - they'll be reasonably compatible in scale/style (as we all keep mentioning - like the WWE Basics/Elites situation). So while the basic kids' stuff doesn't look quite as nice and doesn't have as much articulation -- stylistically, you could shove some of these guys into the back of your 'collector' display and it won't look out of place.
 
Ahhhh but see I like to *play* with my toys.
I’ve got plenty of high-end stuff, but they are not fun to play with and I can’t throw them in my work bag, or my jacket pocket to go to the movies.
I like *toys*, yo.
So while these are not the absolute apex of what I hope Mattel gets up to, I damn sure want cool Batman toys I can mess around with. I always bought Mattel’s more kid-based stuff, and a lot of it was fun as hell.
 
Maybe they just decided it'd be easier to get Tyler Perry's likeness rights and use that for both the Madea figures AND Man At Arms.

Cuz that's what I'm seeing in that figure.
