Mattel DC Figures

I was disappointed at first, but if these are the basic line that makes sense.

About what I expected them to look like, so no real surprise or disappointment there. I'm with others in thinking this is the basic line. Not that I really expect the other line to look that much different, but something a little more in-between Mattel and McF, perhaps.

I was thinking of these as lower-articulated, but still on par with paint/sculpt as the more expensive figures. I hope the adult line ups the paint and sculpt significantly.

I think if you look at the difference between WWE Basics and WWE Elites and WWE Ultimates, you'll see where we're probably going to land with DC.

Yeah, I had thought WWE Basics still had good paint and sculpt though? Maybe that's just from re-use and the less flashy colors though.

I wonder if this "New Legends will rise" tagline is an across the board marketing slogan for all of the DC stuff they're doing. If so, it feels very purposeful and very direct.

Yeah, just caught that as well. That's on purpose. Looking at them some more I think my main hang-up is how Batman and Robin's capes cut off well before the shoulders. And that Robin's cape isn't two-tone.

They've shown off a couple of the figures from the new He-Man movie. Is this an adult collector line? I'm not well-versed in the various MOTU offerings. If this is adult collector, then I'm not feeling particularly excited about the future of DC movie figures, but I suppose in fairness these aren't the best pics. The faces don't look very good here, and Evil Lyn has that same crappy material they've been using for capes going back to (at the very least) that awful Dick Grayson Batman from their old Multiverse line.

Looking at the costume details, I really don't like this line. The thing that bothers me most about McFarlane is how he fails to match the subject matter often with weird reuse choices (Black Lighting with a belt under a belt?).

From this image alone it's clear that Tim Drake Robin looks to have Dick's pixie boots. Rebirth Batman with the wrong utility belt. Just because the line's for kids, doesn't mean it shouldn't match the comics it's based on. As of now, this is a big pass for me, a guy who even bought lots of Spin Master figures. If this is a basic line meant to mix and match with the collector line, this isn't a good sign.
