G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

They're pretty cagey about having any avenue to contact anyone outside of social media or talking to them at Cons. Even for someone with contacts in the industry it can be hard to get any direct lines because that can blow up in someone's face really fast.

They probably can't look at anything because of legal reasons, but if someone from their team were to like, stumble onto it it'd be different. I'm actually on the mailing list for job openings at Hasbro though they are not a stable enough company anyone should leave a steady job for.

I would say it's more that they can't be -seen- to be looking at things. Lenny can't come out and be like 'I was watching some dude's YouTube video about X character and he thought up a color scheme I liked so I used it.' But he could just... use that color scheme and say nothing.

Obviously, if they just copied all the Disavowed bios verbatim that's a different issue. But I don't think there's anything stopping Lenny from reading them as long as he's not publicizing that he's doing it and doesn't lift so many things that it can be seen as anything beyond coincidence.

But ultimately, it's still hard to get that kind of access to someone on the Joe team. You can't exactly post all this stuff on Lenny's Bluesky feed, ya' know? And he doesn't have a publicly available email address.

And the Classified team are at less of a risk than whoever has the comic book license right now. Their bios are minimalist at best. A publisher would have to worry about 'what if we have a story where Wreckage goes on a terrorist rampage' shit (not that I'd ever do anything legally fuzzy but a lot of people out there do not understand two people can have the same idea at the same time independently).

Exactly. But if I can find a way to get this in front of someone at Skybound, you best believe I'll do it in a heartbeat.

I know it's a bit masturbatory to say it but I feel like working with a really strong artist, this concept would sell pretty fuckin' well and make a nice combination of fans old and new happy.

#80!

Code Name: Techno-Viper
File Name: Various
Primary Military Specialty: Combat Engineer
Secondary Military Specialty: Sabotage
Birthplace: Various
Rank: Viper Mark 2 (Specialist)

After Rexford Lewis took office, the Techno-Viper Corps were split into two units. One half remained active with Cobra under Major Bludd's command; but the other half, selected for intelligence, creativity, and the ability to think quickly on their feet, were provided with new cover identities and then sprinkled into an astonishing number of roles across the country, from bridge builders to civil engineers to cell tower installation and even to less overtly technical but still pivotal infrastructure work like roads and sewers. That Lewis has created by placing these agents in positions not of power and authority but rather of access is to create a lever with which he can move the world. Should anyone threaten his authority or call the legitimacy of his presidency into question, these Techno-Viper sleeper agents can unravel basic services or create disasters where a strong leader is needed to keep the country safe.

"The old-school Techno-Vipers are still a pain, out there in-country causing problems wherever Cobra is still active. It's the sleeper agents that scare me though. Lewis knows at some point people are going to catch on to what he's doing, and when that happens, he needs a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency red button to push. And so he's got guys who, hypothetically, can disrupt the New York City sewer system. Or shut down I-90. Or disrupt cell phone service in Los Angeles. And he could flip all these switches at once, or pick and choose what will benefit him most to distract the public attention and make him look good - because he doesn't just control the ability to cause the disaster. His people can fix it, too, and make him look like a hero. The only thing we have going for us is Techno-Vipers are highly skilled engineers. They are not secret agents. We just need one of them to make a mistake so we can expose the whole operation. But if Lewis is good at one thing, it's the art of domestic terrorism, and now he's got the entire country in his pocket."

Ah man, for someone who works for a city, Techno Vipers embedded in the damned Public Works department is really upsetting heh. Incredible thinking with positioning them to be his destructive lever like that.

Also, I think that was #81?

You're right! I didn't format Road Pig's card in my running file properly so he didn't show up in the total. Just fixed it. 81 it is. (They need to reveal more figures, I'm getting alarmingly close to the end of named Cobras...)

And yeah, given I know most public works folks are really just doing their damndest to get stuff done, Cobra sabotage would particularly hit home.

It can be masturbatory and true at the same time. I can imagine this as a cartoon done in the Resolute style and that would be amazing.

Somehow the Techno-Vipers might be the scariest yet just based on being able to essentially flip a switch and turn the whole country off. Even in our real world that would be an 'I win' card for a would-be authoritarian. Hell, it's WHY real life conservatives are destroying every failsafe against this.

Some of the embedded vipers I worry are TOO realistic, because we know bad actors are doing these very things. The Tele-Vipers and Techno-Vipers hit a little too close to home but I want to make even boring basic troopers feel capable and scary.
