G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

Trying to figure out where he fits as the pew pew guy in all this was kinda tough, actually. But as far as guys who just know how things work, he's on a pretty short list of teammates, so I thought throwing him into the private sector for defensive tech felt like where he'd head. Especially since we know Destro is working both sides.

Code Name: Pythona
File Name: Unknown
Primary Military Specialty: Herald
Secondary Military Specialty: Assassin
Birthplace: Cobra-La
Rank: N/A

Subject is a figure shrouded in mystery. Her comings and goings on U.S. soil are an enigma - no travel records exist indicating how she moves around the world. She meets clandestinely and through back channels with Lewis assets that are off the books and not on the government payroll. Lewis, usually shockingly hands-on with foreign dignitaries, refuses to meet with the subject and will actively seek to be in an alternate location when she visits. He has strict orders that she is not allowed in most government buildings. Currently, all intelligence on Pythona beyond this report is classified as top secret, and rumors abound that she is providing either foreign intelligence or unsanctioned bioweapons to the administration.

"Rexford Lewis is a great many things, but one thing he is not is a coward. He knows more about who or what this woman represents, and it terrifies him. And that, in turn, should terrify all of us. None of his closest allies or enforcers seem to be able to keep track of her. Crystal Ball, with his newly elevated abilities, has said her mind is like quicksilver across a table, impossible to catch and dangerously toxic. Speculation has run rampant since her first appearance and each new, and always unannounced, visit stirs those anxieties even more. Everything about her - the techno-organic armor she affects, the inhuman look of her eyes, the... familiarity with which she addresses the president, all ask more questions than they answer. The one question I must know though: is she a threat to Lewis, and if so, can she be turned against him? Or is she controlling Lewis for someone or something even more powerful?"

From the personal notes of Philip "Chuckles" Provost: "I was in the same room with her once, undercover. We made eye contact and - have you ever looked a predator in the eyes? Seen a mountain lion while hiking? It was like that. Instant fight or flight. But also... look there's no polite way to say it, but I was drawn to her at a primal level, do you understand? The small mammal part of my brain wanted to dive nose first into that trap. I don't know who the hell she is, but she might be the most dangerous person I've ever been that close to, and I'd prefer not do it again."

Code Name: Clutch (Disavowed)
File Name: Steinberg, Lance J.
Primary Military Specialty: Transportation
Secondary Military Specialty: Infantry
Birthplace: Asbury Park, New Jersey
Rank: E-4

Surveillance on the subject prior to disbandment of the GI Joe Unit indicated he might be a potential recruit to the Lewis administration - his online dabbling in the manosphere, however, appeared to be an act of curiosity rather than a commitment to the state of mind. He returned to his home state of New Jersey and started a small security agency specializing in transportation for VIPs. His clients include pop star Satin and celebrity chef Marvin Hinton, thought Steinberg did recently lose a lucrative contract after being caught on a hot mic saying something graphic about a country star's legs while she was in one of his armored limos. Lewis has approved Steinberg's Mean Machines car service for staff as he believes any patronage and goodwill toward former Joes may open them up to, if not intentional betrayal, inadvertent slips of the tongue. The Paoli twins make frequent use of Mean Machines when on New York/New Jersey area.

"Leave it to Clutch to parlay his Executive Bodyguard School training into a post-military career, right? Except he's also slowly but surely making sure there are armored vehicles up and down the East Coast that are certified by Joe armorers for combat. The man has a plan. He's got Cover Girl consulting for his vehicle design (Clutch was always more of a driver and motor guy, heavy armor was Courtney's deal) and she's also trying to teach him to keep his mouth shut in inappropriate situations - he's got a rubber band around his wrist he snaps every time he uses a sexist term. It's a slow process but he'll get there."

Cobra La feels like such a tight rope and I appreciate the mystery building here. Totally get why you added the note from Chuckles. A lot of really outstanding hints.
I felt like if I were going to introduce Cobra-La should include both a Cobra and Joe perspective. First one is definitely Destro.

Heh heh, I always appreciate when you tell me. And yeah, that was smart. And on their face, those two choices seem really surprising until I remember how much you love both of them.

And Clutch.... I think we've discussed him so much in this thread I thought you'd done him already! But that was gold all the way through. Stayed true to him, and also still made him heroic and even charming, and pushing the narrative forward.

Fucking Doc does it again, because now I'm mad that I skipped Pythona.

Also love that Clutch is kind of a creep, but is aware of it and actively trying to be better. I've got a fondness for the 'nobody is perfect, but we can still be good' thing.
