Star Wars Black Series

Yeah, wasn't floored by any of the reveals. I'm always game for a new named clone trooper but I'm pretty full up on generics.

Just had a question from a friend who is forum-hesitant and hasn't joined yet - is there a demand for a Varrian Skye figure? I think there's a lot of other figures from Andor I'd want first but now I'm curious if there's a demand for that costume.

WTF is wrong with Hasbro to CONTINUE holding off reveals for figures of looks that are in theatres RIGHT NOW?! When is a better time to show off ROTS Anakin and Obi-Wan? And Palpatine and Mace or Yoda?

Do they think people will stop buying the Ahsoka Anakin if they show the new one? Honestly, this is baffling. They spent half of this reveal stream RE-REVEALING things.

Also, wow, Aayla again - she's $15 on Amazon right now - why does she need a re-release? She looks great in the box but y'know who would have also looked great? PADME.

Ahhh they are gonna get me again with that Sandrooper.
I wish the vintage toy-style Hammerhead was Black Series.
Agreed, I was just thinking how tempting he and Snaggletooth would be in BS.

The Sandtrooper... Just noticed he is dirty so that is really nice. I'm really looking for reasons to skip him and just get a 3D printed rifle on Etsy or something. If they'd done th white pauldron that has the folds rather than the curve, no question, since that would make him Davin Felth. The forehead smear looks like they may even have been trying for him. (For those who don't know, Davin is the Look sir, droids trooper.)

I really appreciate the shoulder pouch and hip pouches though.

I'd take a Varrian and wigged up shopowner Luthen for sure! That would be a fun 2 pack. Cassian is a character that lots of variants make sense for, since he's always undercover for different missions. Sorta regretting offloading the Aldhani Cassian, but I'd take any and every one they'd wanna give us at this point.

In general, Andor has only deepened my want for more politicians. I still argue in favor for the 4 hour ROTS cut, because most of what George took out- those scenes with Padme starting the Rebellion, are, in my mind, some of the better written scenes of the movie, and add some much-needed depth to Padme. AOTC, ROTS, and the Saga Collection gave us some great alien politicians- Ask Aak, Meena Tills, Passel Argente, Cat Miin, San Hill, Sly Moore. Those were some of my favorites back in the day, even if they weren't the most "action-y" of figures. Of course there's the slightly more crucial ones like Poggle the Lesser, Nute Gunray, and the DJ Master himself, Wat Tambor. The 2 biggest wants would be Mas Amedda and Bail Organa, the latter of whom I'm surprised we still haven't seen in figure form. I'd love his ROTS look in Black Series, just so long as we get Smits before Bratt. How ironic would it be if the first Bail figure we get is the recast?

A two pack of Varrian and foppish shop owner Luthen would be a must have for me. I wonder if the first Luthen sold enough to get him in his fancy pants alter ego, but I'd love that. or a two pack of the shop with him and Kleya. Heck, thrown in a version of Kleya's listening table and make it a playset!

And yeah, I'd be u for tons of politician figures. One of the things I miss about the older, smaller scale lines was getting those random figures. Truly shocked we don't have a Bail Organa yet though. I always wanted him and a single Alderaanian body guard or something like that.

Looking again at the new Sandtrooper, the helmet doesn't look the same as the slew of recent troopers we've gotten. Maybe that's a render issue? Worries me a bit for the rest of Scar Squad.

They did the Sandtrooper kneeplate at least, and he does have a slightly different backpack from the original BS Sandie. (Just so you know, there are five different backpack arrangements in ANH, not counting the SE version. It's... it's a real burden paying this much attention to details.)

I may hold out... see if they do another one with the folded white pauldron finally. If they ever really wanted to get my money, they'd do a set with three Sandtroopers with an E-11, DLT, T-21, and RT-97c; three differently configured backpacks; black, orange, and white pauldrons, along with the folded white pauldron, and hell... throw in the little probe droid with a clear stand. I would buy two of that set and be REALLY happy to have all six. Ugh, but then I'd need the one that shows up at Docking Bay 94 with no pauldron or backpack.... That's fine, that's fine, I'd just go for the checkpoint squad.

Yeah, the May the 4th reveals were underwhelming. And don't get me wrong, I liked everything I saw and I'm going to pre order all the stuff they showed except the ROTS Aayla and Magna Guard since I have them. I know the Magna Guard is a different color this time, but I like the version I have from the films.

I was really hoping to see some of the cooler things that have been rumored. ROTS Obi Wan and Ani, Windu vs. Chancellor Palpatine 2 Pack, Jedi Temple Guard, Pong Krell, Barriss Offee, The Stranger, or the new Boba Fett and Jango Fett.

But some troop builders are always fun.

I really hope when Hasbro re-upped the license with Disney/Lucasfilm, they made it clear that while they will of course make figures of the new content and films to help promote it, that the Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, and Expanded Universe stuff is what sells best. And Disney needs to allow them, Hasbro, to make more of that.

I feel like Hasbro has done pretty well at that lately, but I hope they do even better by giving us more figures and toys of those categories going forward.

Especially with Star Wars fandom where it is, and prices going up. I also hope Hasbro got a better deal on the overall price and royalties they have to pay Lucasfilm/Disney. Because again, Star Wars isn't what it was.

I really do hope some of these projects are fun and bring more people back into the fandom or reignite their enjoyment. Ahsoka Season 2, Mando and Gu, and the eventual Filoni movie that ties all the Mandoverse and Thrawn stuff together sounds like a lot of fun. And I'm honestly excited about Starfighter and Mangolds Dawn of the Jedi.

Hell, I'm even interested in this upcoming Rey movie, to see what became of her 15 years after Rise of Skywalker. I just don't know if too many other people are lol.

They got me with the new sandtrooper. I've been hoping they'd do one on the new body. Now I'm hoping we get a new Dewback set because I sold mine. Both times.
Much as I do like a lot of different Star Wars things, they always seem to get me when they hit the OT stuff. Especially ANH and ESB.

Barriss Offee, The Stranger, or the new Boba Fett
Yes, same! Those and li'l Leia from OWK were my big hopes this year. At the same time, a big part of me is always okay with not spending money.
They got me with the new sandtrooper
Yeah.... I don't want to want that, but Stormtroopers are my weakness and Sandies even more so. I had a squad of seven but always hated the old body. I sold all of them off and just put pauldrons and pouches two remnant stormtroooers to have an orange and a white Sandtroopers.

But now.... I'm feeling the pull again. Maybe I could get away with just four, like the door checkers, or the guys in the street when the Falcon takes off. But then I can add just two more for the road block. And a naked one wouldn't hurt to have the docking bay shootout.

See? This is how it happens.

I only ever had one, but did sell it off too. The dewback was one of the dumbest toys because it did NOTHING in the movies, even after the SE, but it was such a a special thing to me because my dad got me that when I was a kid. And like I said, stormtroopers have always been my weakness, so gotta have their ride. But I was trying to get my collection under control and sold off the older Sandies so he went as well...

Same. I won't apologize for it though, that's my nostalgia bone for sure. I saw the sideshow jabba alien set this morning and was kinda excited thinking it was BS. Ah well.

I think back on the Fwoosh I told my dewback story. It really is just about world building and the kind of.. childlike wonder of what could be. When I first saw ANH, it wasn't new (this would have been late 80s) but it was new enough to not have drastically impacted cinema yet. And I was young enough that I didn't really know anything about it. So ANH was a whole new universe of fiction to me. Every moment was something new and exciting and every scene was filled with possibility.
I didn't know the background or have any 'The Encyclopedia of Star Wars' books yet.

So I saw some white space troopers. But wait.. those two are riding dragons and have LANCES. So they're actually space KNIGHTS?!

That thought stuck with me from then onward and it's still kind of coloring how I view stormtroopers even though I know it's pretty off-base from how Stormtroopers evolved in the fiction or were even thought of at the time of filming. But for a moment there was a lance-wielding space knight on a desert dragon and that was fuckin' cool as fuck. I will never not love a sandtrooper on a dewback for that reason.

Yeah, OT stuff hits me in the double nostalgia. Because I have nostalgia for the movies, but also for the toys that I spent a lot of time playing with and making my own stories for. That's why it's definitely easier for me to sell off AOTC figures or Rise of Skywalker figures, and new releases from those movies don't really offer any significant temptation for me. But a really good OT figure, especially of a character whose toy I owned in the PotF days? Way harder to ignore.

Agreed, entirely. I remember after ROTJ, my mom encouraged me to make up my own stories for what came next and it really unlocked a lot of my imagination, and ultimately let to coming up with my own damn worlds entirely even beyond other people's IP heh. But that first job I never wanted, after 'Spider-Man' , was 'George Lucas', just as far as creativity. always loved the making of documentaries, they were as essential to me as the movies themselves.

And it's awesome about the space knight riding a desert dragon. That's the thing about Star wars, it's just such a massive, immersive world with unlimited possibilities. And some planets suck but there's countless worlds. I think they even said something like that in the old trailer heh.
