TTRPGs & D&D

I appreciate you.
I haven't been able to really commit to a game in a long time - definitely not since I started running the company, but I think actually even before that I was too busy out on a rig and never knew what my schedule would be. And my big (really only) fear going into our game was that I would find I couldn't handle the game length in my schedule. If we hit a 5-hour game once, no big deal. If that was the expectation every time we sat down, I'd almost certainly say I just can't be here for that.
I feel like even if you put run time up, our content concentration is the same.

With our game we're really laser focused so it feel like we get four hours of game into two and a half hours, too. I've got someone who plays in my weekly Weds. night game and also in a monthly one I do every few Fridays and he's pointed out that aside from folks with kids running late by 15 or 20 minutes, the weekly game is always fully engaged, but I've had to tell folks in the other game we are on too tight a schedule to spend 25 minutes talking about knitting or the history of jazz because something in the story sent someone on their very specialized focus area topic. I had to institute a rule of "table talk is fine after 10 pm but we gotta get the game in before folks turn into pumpkins." I'm honestly astounded at how little table talk any of the games I GM for have considering how nerdy everyone is - how we don't regularly go on a tear about the new Marvel movie or politics or yelling at the one person who hasn't watched KPop Demon Hunter (which would be me) is amazing.

We have our tangents before the game starts, and we definitely went on a bit of a tear after the game was over last session. But yeah, 'laser-focused' is a good descriptor for how we are during the game. Much as I like just chatting with a good group of dudes, it's absolutely my preference once the game is on to be in the moment. I'm not big on the side tangents and Monty Python jokes.

I'm going to choose to take this as a compliment despite the implication that I was, at some point in the past, not charming.
One can always become *more* charming ;) It was totally meant as a compliment. Getting the tone of a person just aids with understanding. Like, the reason this is the only forum I frequent of any kind online (unless you count bluesky) is the asshole quota is so low as to be effectively nonexistent. I think the only question marks were folks who skipped out once the tariffs thread started.

Today has been a day for "shipping soon" notices. I also got one for my Draw Steel books. I suppose that means I'll need to run it soon. I'm ready.
I'm here for it. Draw Steel looks like so much fun. I'll have to get the book eventually. Probably PDF since it's not looking (yet) like I can get the actual book local.

I've had the PDF for a bit but I've been otherwise occupied so I haven't dove in. I sort of know the broad strokes from MCDM's videos and streams, but there's definitely still a lot I need to learn. I'll probably pick up the updated Delian Tomb and run it for a group or two to get my legs under me before I start work on another fantasy campaign.

Also need to sit down with it to see how much I'll need to retrofit for my personal setting (nothing against Matt's, I just have my own back yard to play in).

I keep forgetting I have the PDFs from the kickstarter. I figure I'll have an easier time uni-tasking reading through the physical books when they get here. Also I've bookmarked a half-dozen episodes of Mastering Dungeons so I can listen to Teos and Shawn break down the system - they really are the best in the business at highlighting what works and what doesn't.

Unrelated to Draw Steel, I just had to finalize my pledge for Dragonbane miniatures. Dragonbane's really just D&D light, but has my absolute favorite working fantasy artist doing the art and did I just spend like, 200 bucks on miniatures based on his artwork? Fuck yeah I Did. Duck-man assassins and elegant Nordic dragon designs, I'm in. (I really like Dragonbane but I feel like if I'm going to push myself to run a freeleague game I should do something in a different genre, like Vaesen or Alien.)

Yes, I am also thinking what you are thinking.

This is where I'm at. I've glanced through the pdfs, but having the book in hand will just make it easier to focus while i learn. Then the PDFs become quickref.

Course I'll probably kick in some money for the codex vtt as well when it's ready.
