U.S. Politics

Don't know if it's a quote from something, but when frustrated by someone- often a political figure- my grandpa used to often say "It's a shame that God took people without brains and gave 'em mouths to compensate."

And it's just... when will the "It's all Joe Biden's fault" thing finally wear out?
I sincerely believe one of the reasons we're here is because people think COVID happened during Biden's presidency. They forgot the 18 months of COVID mismanagement, stupidity, and incompetence that came before Biden.

Memory loss is a common side effect of PTSD. His mismanagement traumatized the entire country and, by proxy, helped him get away with it.

Voters also attribute the COVID stimulus money to Trump instead of Democrats bailing him out of bad economic policy. I hate to inflict short-term pain for long-term gain, but those checks were a huge fucking mistake. Democrats have long needed to start acting like Mitch McConnell during the Obama era. Stop giving your political enemies wins. It sucks that we're in a zero-sum game, but McConnell rewrote the rules in 2009.

Got an email this morning from the doctor who diagnosed my neurodivergence a few years back, assuring me that, if the government did reach out demanding medical records, they'd keep in compliance with HIPAA laws and not turn it over. Nice to know they have my back and are standing up for what's right- kudos to them for that. But I also hate that I'm currently living in a country where my doctor even has to assure me in the first place that they won't rat me out to the government for God knows what. Even sadder knowing that there probably are doctors out there who would gladly sell out their patients; HIPAA doesn't mean a damn thing to them, especially when up against God or the government.

McConnell sure did. I don't know if Democrats have it in them to play by the new rules. Say Alito retires in 2027 and the Democrats narrowly edge Republicans in the midterms - does anyone think they'd do what McConnell did and block a president from appointing a new justice to the bench? I don't. Right now, they're talking of creating a new rule in the DNC designed to force out David Hogg who had the audacity to suggest that some Democrats should face a true challenger in the primaries. David Hogg, someone who probably brings young people to the party in large numbers, they're basically willing to nuke that influence because he thinks Democrats should be held accountable. It's maddenning.

FBI arrested a circuit judge in WI this morning for obstruction after she allegedly misdirected them away from a man ICE was attempting to take into custody at the courthouse.

I told my wife about this just now and she, barely joking this time, said 'maybe we should look more seriously into moving to Ireland..."

What's left? Arresting dissenters? Siccing the military on citizens?
Yes, I think so. We know about the autism registry. I'm sure there have been "hit lists" made long ago that we aren't aware of. It's truly a scary time to be an American. I hate that someone so stupid and incompetent is the figure head for this regime. It should have been avoidable, but all the pieces fell into place, so here we are.

I was talking about it with my therapist and he said "it's scary, but we'll get through it. Germany had their thing for 12 years but they got through it too " This didn't exactly allay my fears.

I get that, especially having to live through the horror part before the improvement part. Were swastikas outlawed in Germany after? At least maybe we can finally criminalize Let's Go Brandon stickers by 2040.

There's no guarantee we'll get through it in our lifetimes. I'm also disinterested, to say the least, in living a space comparable to Nazi Germany.

I have to believe that the best of us simply won't allow that to happen.

The best of us have done basically fuck all to stop it thus far. I see no reason to assume that will change.

For legal reasons, I'm just speculating on a point of legality that I am in no way suggesting anyone should do:
It's wild to me that Bondi would tell law enforcement to illegally batter their way into peoples' homes in a country that viciously defends the right of regular citizens to be armed at all times and defend their homes and persons with lethal force virtually without question. Meaning, if someone claims to be ICE and simply slams their way into your home, you may be well within your legal rights to blow a fist-size hole through their fucking face like the Nazi piece of shit that they are.
LEGALLY, I would never suggest doing such a thing. MORALLY, I have to point out that it is always morally correct to kill Nazis where you find them.

A case like that is definitely coming. Law enforcement wear uniforms and carry badges so no misunderstandings happen. Now that ICE is operating like kidnappers—wearing plainclothes and masks and throwing people into unmarked cars—a shootout is coming.
