I think this is kind of the point. Red Guardian is a shitty, absent father. He has one memory tied to Yelena and he can't let it go.

The relationship of Yelena, Natasha and RG alluded to many of the same themes of The Americans TV show, which was how much was the family a real family and how much was manufactured to seem like one as part of the job.
I think he wanted to be a good father, but didn't know how, and kind of knew what his daughters were going to become, so maybe tried not to be invested. I need to rewatch Black Widow now as the details are murky.

Didn't mean to touch a nerve and I didn't exempt myself from the term. I simply don't agree on this particular topic.
I'm trying not to let this thread ruin the upcoming movies with spoilers, rumored or otherwise - and that's not going well - so I didn't read whatever prompted this Death/Thanos tangent. But Thanos is done - his appearances in What If?, while cute, didn't really help the character.
I really think the MCU should leave Thanos alone. Marvel managed to nail him in Infinity War and Endgame, even figured out how to kill him satisfactorily twice! Digging him up to tell a side story feels like fanfic and the MCU needs to stay away from that. Also, I just don't see the audience at large really caring to revisit Thanos in this way. I could be wrong but this could so easily go wrong and taint IW/Endgame.
Whatever. If you feel like I'm "ruining the upcoming movies" then let me offer a suggestion. This forum software has an ignore feature that works great. Please put me on it. That way you won't be able to see my posts and you won't have to worry about it anymore. Problem solved.
In the comics the infatuation that Thanos has with Death has been going on for years. I cannot be the only one on the internet that's talking about that. I don't know where you're going to go where you won't see it.

But, like I said, whatever. I know not everyone reads comics. You would think that if they collect a line called MARVEL Legends and watch movies that are part of the MARVEL Cinematic Universe they'd have at least a passing familiarity with the mythos from which those things originated but it's okay. From now on I'll use spoiler tags. It's not a problem.

I wanna say one more thing about Thanos and his lady love.
I guess it may seem like "fanfic" to some, but it was Jim Starlin, creator of Thanos, Starfox, Gamora and Drax, who wrote and drew it. It was one of the best stories Marvel ever published. It added so much to Thanos and his motivations.
In the films and in the comics, Thanos had the Infinity Gauntlet. He had complete control over time, space, reality, mind, power and the soul. In other words, he was God. In the movies, he says he was concerned about over population and running out of resources. Really? Okay, fine. He actually had a point there. So fix it. Use the gems to create more food and water. Create more planets for people to live on. He had the power to do that.
Instead, he just wiped out half of all living creatures in the universe. Randomly. Coldly. And then took off for his cosmic retirement home.
Here's the question: Why?
Here's the answer: He hated life. He hated his Father and his Brother. He was pure hate. Except for the one thing he loved ... Death. That was his motivation. That was all that mattered to him. He wanted to appease her.

Thanos in his first appearance at the end of Avengers (he doesn't speak of course) has the line spoken to him "to challenge them is to court death", which causes him to smile. So they started down that road of Death being a motivating factor.
They then pivoted to Thanos motivation being based on his obsessive eco-warrior driven genocide and Death does not get mentioned again. If they had planned to go that route, then we needed (in my opinion) to see Death with him in his retirement/farmer role at the end of Infinity War. But given they never referenced Death as an obsession of his again, introducing Death as part of the Thanos mythos in the MCU would be a retcon in that storyline, in spite of the comic history, especially after they established Death as being a romantic interest for Agatha.
I'd rather not see Thanos from another multiverse as a bit player in Doomsday, unless it is to explain why one multiverse who experienced the snap but nevere reversed it has a limited set of heroes.

Some of the prior supposedly "leaked concept artwork" has the Avengers looking like they are in medieval Europe, so a lot of folks thought about time travel again - but what if that is a timeline where Doom rules and he has remade the world in the image of Latveria, which is often depicted as very old world with peasants and what not?

I didn’t love Avengers the first time I saw it, but two things really lifted me up at the end:
1) Iron Man seemingly learning and growing and becoming a better person. Didn’t pan out.
2) The end with Thanos. No matter what I thought of the film, the idea that Thanos was out there, courting Death by questing for the infinity gems was just AWESOME to me and I had no reason to believe it was a “metaphor” at that time. I just thought they were gonna tackle Thanos head-on from the comics, because why wouldn’t I? The resultant “hemi-genocidal conservationist” version wasn’t just disappointing because it was so generic and so divergent from his character, but also felt like a bait-and-switch of a pretty high order.
I don’t need to revisit Thanos at this time: the damage is done. But I would very much like it if “fixing” him was part of the reboot, as I hope many of the characters will be “fixed” to more appropriately reflect their characters and roles from books.
Well, ya know, I hate to use the words "but you started it" but ... you started it. You said "he (Thanos) doesn't need a literal retcon that only potentially makes fanboys happy." First of all, I stopped being a "boy" decades ago. Probably years before you were even born. "Fanboy" is considered a term of derision, usually offered up by someone who thinks they're above it all but usually aren't. I did not appreciate that.

If I had the completed scripts for Brand New Day and Doomsday and I were here telling everyone what was going to happen, then yes, that would be a spoiler. But all I'm doing is speculating on things that I think might happen or things I'd like to see happen. That's NOT a spoiler. And I'm not the only one on the internet that does that. Lots of people do. There's nothing wrong with it. If you're really that worried that something might be spoiled for you, the only advice I can offer is just stay off of forums like these.
Also, we have mods here who happen to be very good at their jobs. If one of them felt that I was stepping out of line they'd let me know. They're not shy. But I have not heard a peep from them so I have to assume I'm okay. Just let the staff do the housekeeping here, all righty?
Fine, suit yourself. But I'm giving you fair warning. I'm going to keep doing what I do. I have a fairly decent knowledge of comics history and the DC and Marvel movies ARE based on the comics, after all. I'm going to keep speculating about Brand New Day, Doomsday, Secret Wars, Supergirl and whatever else is coming out.
