Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

Had a thought and wanted to discuss. I think one of the issues that occurred with Thunderbolts* not landing as it should have is the title.

It's not right.

The * was a fun idea, but only paid off in the movie and then just barely.

Because Thunderbolts is such a recognizable Marvel title/team I think the MCU made a mistake using it here having nothing to do with the existing Tbolts concept. They inversed it - villains become heroes! - but again, not really.

Three and a Half* Russians, Two Captain Americas and a Ghost is a little too long, and also, Bucky kinda counts towards that anyway so maybe it's even Four Russians.

Also, the in-movie explanation for Tbolts just took so much over-explaining to stay relevant that it should have been abandoned. Also, how much soccer did Yelena actually play as a kid? A season before going home?

My question: what else could this movie have been called that might have helped it hit better? Not The New Avengers - or maybe that could have worked like this:

The New Avengers?

I get your point but... my head isn't where yours is, heh. Them naming their team, or some of them anyway, after her defunct soccer team is kinda cute, kinda sweet, kinda mocking, and just damned fitting for the theme and tone of the movie as a whole. If any change could have been done to the title, maybe leave the asterisk off until the opening titles of the movie on first day of release so the audience is left questioning that choice ONLY as they're actually watching the movie. The shift to New Avengers at the very end followed by a ton of news articles and magazine covers echoing exactly what the audience itself is thinking at that moment is just gold in my opinion.

The audience didn't show up in the theater and some of them are now realizing they were fools, ah well. I'd rather the movie maintain what it wanted to be than appease masses who may not have shown up whatever the title was.

That's just fanmade though, right? The King Thanos is from the Avengers ride thing at Disney they showed off at D23. Infinity Ultron is the Hot Toys art, and the Sentinels are from Days of Future Past. Not sure what the other big Sentinel is from- HasLab maybe? And I swear I've seen that Annihilus art somewhere.

That's correct, it's fanmade.

Cool, cool. Just didn't know if it was being presented earnestly or not. It's a pretty darn good fanmade poster, though- better than anything I could make, that's for sure! I'd love to see all of that play out eventually, but seems like a bit too much for our first bout with Doom, who should really stand on his own.

And for what this is worth, I still think that Josh Brolin and Aubrey Plaza will reprise their roles as Thanos and Death for Secret Wars.

It will be a big moment when Thanos reveals why he really snapped away half of all life in the universe.

I'm sorry, Ru. I meant to say that it was fanmade and I forgot. My bad.
No worries... I should have looked harder at it.

Honestly, if all those villains are in Doomsday, I assume it's to show Doom kicking the shit out of them all.
It will be a big moment when Thanos reveals why he really snapped away half of all life in the universe.
That would be so awesome!

This would be so awesome, and also piss me off even more that they made Thanos into Temu Ra’s al Ghul from SPAAACE on purpose when they could have just told the better story in the first place.

I really hope they don't do Thanos/Death. Thanos was done well and put away already - he doesn't need a literal retcon that only potentially makes fanboys happy.

No other ideas for alt names for Thunderbolts*?

A "literal retcon"? How is that possible when you're dealing with the multiverse?

And it would make a LOT of people potentially happy if it's a good story ... and in this case it would be.

And "fanboy"? Seriously? This community is for people who like comics, action figures, movies, tv shows and video games. You're exempt from "fanboy" status ... how, exactly?

Ru gave a great answer.

💯

I don't really care how we see Death again, I just wanna see her. Since they didn't use the romance angle for Thanos, I suppose they could use it for another villain. I guess they sorta did with Agatha, except instead of trying to impress Death, she's outrunning her. But seeing different villain's approaches to Death- literally and metaphoricaly, could be interesting.

Aubrey Plaza has always kinda struck me as the evil twin of Kat Dennings, so a scene with her and Darcy could be fun.
