Oh, my sweet summer child. Do you really think people like that will ever be satisfied? Do you really think 'splitting up the country' would ever be good enough for them? Do you really think those are people that will ever be able to be reasoned with? If you're -lucky-, they would accept a complete non-white, non-Christian withdrawal from the entire landmass of the United States. If you're lucky. And frankly, I don't think it would be long before the white Chrstofascist ethnostate would be looking north and south with greedy eyes.

These people are straight up colonialists. They believe anything white Christians put their hands on is theirs by right. Don't ever let them fool you into thinking they don't believe that includes the entire planet.

Yeah. I think about it often. A "national divorce" is the simplest solution, but they'll never go for it. If California seceded, there'd be troops in Sacramento tomorrow.

We'll never go for it, either. When a Democrat is back in office (fingers crossed for 2029), most people will convince themselves that we're back in 2009. I know because they (including President Joe Biden himself) convinced themselves in 2021.

You cannot unring the bell, and every solution to silence it is imperfect and ugly.

Sorry, the local optimist is not feeling very optimistic today.

Yeah, that was my attitude. I was seething throughout, partly because I cannot stand when people shout over each other (thanks to my parents, it's no secret. Plenty of times their arguments turned physical and they'd fight all the way out the front door onto the front yard), but also for the obvious reasons. Now I'm immersing myself in GI Joe Classified nonsense to rinse myself off before I go try to watch a movie with my kids or something.

I don't know how much you watched, but there's literally a point where one guy openly calls himself a fascist, literally laughs like a cartoon villain, and gets applauded. That's where the country is at.
 
I can not watch the Medhi Hassan Jubilee video. I saw one clip and became so infuriated, and my wife and I are trying our best to insulate ourselves from the world.

Less political shit, less comment section reading, less doomscrolling, less allowing idiots and hatred and prejudice pieces of shit in. Trying to keep it positive and toy related (in my case) and watch more movies, go for more bike rides, etc.

We can only control our little bubble and try to survive the next 3.5 years--so we don't need to be seeing that fucker's ugly face and hearing the stupid, insane shit coming out of that butthole mouth every day until then.

I have just been checking every day to see if the fucking bastard is still alive, and when I see that he is, I peek in on a few Liberal/unbiased pages in the evening for 5-10 minutes to hear some voices of reason and keep myself informed, and then go moving on with my day.

I tried that. I can't do it. I envy that you can. I NEED to know what's going on and how these people think, because I believe that's the only way to have a chance fighting them. I also deal with the public a lot, and knowing what the current talking points are helps me navigate potentially problematic conversations.

So kinda like the person who enjoys not making any choices so they have a spouse or someone do it all for them, but times a million. I know you know, but just to get these questions out there.... what happens when the emperor does something you don't like? What about when they do something you REALLY don't like? What about when they decide it's you who are the problem this time? What if they're actually pretty cool but they die and their kid is a motherfucker? Maybe literally, I dunno. Checks and balances are for chumps!

I've always found it endlessly fascinating (and sad, and infuriating) that their honest answer to those questions is 'that will never happen.'

I blame religion for this. But these people have poisoned their own minds to the point where they honestly believe that there's this one magic perfect person that can fix everything and be in charge forever, and that person would agree with them on everything and do everything they would do. Almost like humans really just worship themselves.

I have no idea how this will play out. The most likely course is that this dies out in a matter of days, weeks, or months. We've never really had a story like this, though. This is one of the biggest news stories of my lifetime. New evidence drops (or is resuscitated after the public ignored it for years) every day. I still can't see Republicans impeaching him. They've gone this far down the rabbit hole already. What's one more damning allegation?
 
Yeah, at any other point in history this buries him. But this is a cult, and the opposition doesn't have enough power to act alone so they need some of that cult to open their eyes and do the right thing. And that's a crowd incapable of doing the right thing. Somehow the worst human being in a century has gotten enough power and worship to do the most unspeakable thing and to never be held accountable for it.
