Selling Toys - Horror Stories & "Happy" Customers

Happy interlude:

I don't know if I was Shadowbanned. I don't know if everyone was just busy or poor. But Tuesday and Wednesday I was inundated with Marketplace messages and wiped out everything I had up to the tune of 900. Everyone was scrambling to come within hours of messaging. Amazing.

This also saves me money because in the cleansing haze, there's a lot of shit coming out I just realized I won't even take the jump on given what I just cleared out. I don't need Max Thor. I don't need Mech Punisher. Etc.

Any time I think about possibly selling figures online, I just come to this thread to remind myself why I definitely do not want to fool with it. Between idiotic customers and eBay's corporate fuckery, I just wouldn't be able to handle the stress. I'm sorry you're dealing with this complete and utter bullshit, @TheRealSmallville

Thanks man. Last night I pulled the rest of my things from the eBay store and I won't be doing business with them anymore as a seller. The fees were already too much and had been making me think of leaving for a while, but this definitely was the final bit I needed.

eBay's final message on the topic is "if you were a "top rated seller" then you could deduct up to 50% of the buyers refund for him returning the item in a different condition. But since you are not, we encourage you to report the buyer and we will compare your report to other reports if applicable."

So since I don't sell enough to be a "top rated seller" on their site, I'm fucked essentially. They won't help me even though the $300 toy is now worth maybe $150. It's a pretty incredible policy they have. They even use the words "the buyer must return the item in the same condition they received it." Except, they absolutely do not need to if the seller doesn't have a special sticker by their name, so they don't enforce their own policy.

On their forum, I read a story from a guy who sold someone a carburetor, it was brand new. The buyer messaged the seller, told him that it turns out it didn't fit the buyer's vehicle correctly, asked what he could do. Seller told him to return it. So the buyer cut a bunch of wires on it and tried to rig it up to work anyway...after it didn't, the buyer requested a return under "does not match the description." eBay allowed him to return it, even after the messages stated that he had cut wires and fucked with it. Now the seller has a carburetor that he can't sell because it's been destroyed, essentially, and he's out the amount that it cost.

Fuck eBay.

Congrats man! That's a damn nice haul right there!

Same thing happened to me Wednesday! Sold NOTHING for maybe two weeks then Wednesday BAM - five things.

Back to zero now, but that was certainly nice. And three of the five were McFarlane DC.

I have a whole batch of stories off of the latest sales effort.

But for right now I just want to say, Facebook Marketplace is wild.

Wild! I would never message someone saying hey if you're ever in this town an hour and a half from you, I live right off this exit and you could hand deliver to me during these specific hours when I'm not at work.

I just started autopiloting every response to a moron this weekend with, "That's sick, bro ".

Is this still available?

That's sick bro.

What's the best you can do?

That's sick broseph.

What is your best price?

That's sick bra.

Do you have anything else for sale?

That's sick bruh.

Can you hold this for a week, I don't have any money.

That's sick bruv.

They're getting so mad but it just fuels me.

Who are these people?!

I'm still trying to re-sell an expensive table and have on the listing "not open to offers". I'll go down $100, but people always want like $800 off - and then get pissy with me when I refuse. "Why should I buy from you when for $200 more I can get free shipping from the manufacturer?" Be my guest! I said "you'll also pay $200 extra in taxes for the pleasure" and then she came back at me with an insult on how much I probably paid for it. I just chuckled and moved on.

Yes, insult me and I will lower the price. You figured out my weakness!

I saw a listing for a Mythic Legion earlier where the guy said Price is 60, but I'll take 50.

Absolutely. I will pay you $60 sir.

Happy interlude:

I was visiting my brother in law and his family for the fourth. The most fu----ummm----the SECOND most fun thing to happen besides the water balloon fight I had with my girls and their three cousins was my brother in law making a local purchase to grab a big lot of toys someone was selling for $250. Bro in law makes his money buying and selling, he has thousands of toys in his basement and garage, and this lot was a nice haul.

The was some good stuff in this lot including some Masterpiece Transformers, some Power Rangers stuff in Japanese packaging, some Star Wars, some wrestling, some Toybiz Spidey and X-Men movie figures, and many other random things. I helped him piece the stuff together and bag them up. It was a lot of fun going through that stuff. He was really excited because he will make his money back many times over. And the guy we picked the stuff up from was happy just to have it gone.

Bro in law is a stay at home dad, the wife brings home the bacon. I am not. Although my wife does make more than me, we need me working as well. If that were not the case and I were a stay at home dad, I'd probably be doing the same thing; chasing down lots, watching auctions, sorting them, cleaning them, pricing them, listing them, going to multiple toy shows a month. That's a lot of work I just don't have time for. But it can be fun.
