More of a general UPS observation for today. I was at work just now and noticed the UPS truck pulled up to an unusual place at our building. It was a new driver and we started to chat. Most of these truck's floors are pretty messy with packages, this guy proceeded to walk on two large flat boxes from the front of the truck to the back door with crunching metal sounds after each step. I was cringing.
Oof. It tracks with my delivery people. Don't get me wrong- I have nothing but respect for my delivery folks who work long hours in all sorts of weather. Especially in a place like NYC which has
so many people; I couldn't do what they do. But they certainly do make things.... interesting. They'll either deliver something to some weird address not even close to mine,
not ring my buzzer and said they did just so they don't have to wait for someone to open the door, or they'll ring the buzzer and
immediately leave, just to say they did. Like, I've had times where I've waited by the buzzer, pressed the button to let them in, as I'm running down the stairs- all in the span of
maybe 10 seconds, and they were already gone. Or, if they do get in, they'll chuck it from the bottom of the landing with such force that it sounds like a gunshot against my door. I've had a few things arrive just broken to hell because it was fragile and they chucked it like they were on a major league baseball team.
A total first-world problem to have, I admit, but it shouldn't be such an experience to get something that I ordered. And this goes for all services- UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.
