General Marvel Legends

It's also funny because it really does feel like a lot of folks (And old Fwoosh folks, which I know a lot of us are) stopped reading comics in the 80s or 90s and just don't like new stuff, which is always weird to me. I love comics, i dont imagine I'll ever stop :)
This made me chuckle.

I'm not young. I turned 50 this year, but I had never opened a comic before the year 2000. I never had access to a place to regularly buy comics locally until 2010 (around the launch of DC's New 52 and Uncanny X-Force team in the silver and black). I don't think that I've ever paid less than $2.99 for a new comic single issue release. I was a father myself before I had someplace nearby where I could purchase a comic book. Trade paperbacks have easily become my preferred reading route.

Due to all of the above and my later start reading comics, I actually find reading comics printed prior to 2000 difficult BECAUSE OF the art work and writing style. Older comics can be very hard on the eyes compared to more modern art work. I do still enjoy the older stories, but I certainly skew much more "modern" in my preferences for looks figures and characters, in general. A lot of folks seem to prefer the old 80's Handbook looks but many of those are extreme eyesores to me at this point, and often don't look like they would translate well to action figures made in 2025. In many ways it would be like taking some who had only seen modern movies and trying to make them appreciate old movies with outdated special effects from the 80's. It's a tough sell. LOL! Like, I loved the very first Star Wars movie and the V television series as a kid, but recognize that those don't hold up well to things made today from a visual standpoint. Now, from a story standpoint - that's a different conversation altogether.

I spent 75 bucks at the comic shop today.

Comics are my day one. I started reading them 61 years ago and I'll keep reading them until the day I die.

The first AvX and the Nu52 was my line. I stopped reading the Big Two after that.

My headcanon goes up to Busiek/Perez/Johns Avengers and no more. (Though I do still read any Thor book, so…)

Doctor Druid needs to come with an alt zombie-fied head, or a corpse head - my only exposure to him "active" was in this issue and I distinctly remember this cover:

BTW - aren't most of these characters actually alive again at this point?

There are modern comic bits I read here and there. Mainly I follow artists I consider to be good cartoonists. Modern comic artists are better draftsmen/women than ever but often worse cartoonists (well excluding the 90s) than ever. On the higher end there are still greats. David Aja, Javier Rodriquez, Chris Samnee. Will read anything they draw. I think there are good "modern additions" to the character canon. Kamala Khan, Harley Quinn, Kate Bishop. I want those characters. I don't want all those X-Men related characters with one syllable names though.

I obviously have a preference for classic looks, but I actually embrace new looks and characters. I am down for Francine Electro, Spider-Boy and Hallow's Eve. What I HATE is the same look being revisited again and again and again any time some minor articulation change is made or the painting process improves slightly..

Figures with the old ugly ball shoulders or 20 year old articulation like Falcon or Doc Samson - sure, time for a remake. But I don't need them revisitng Silk again already or redoing every Spidey variant on the Unlimited body... that exhausts me.

Not to derail the thread, but it is likely that I will have both Inhumans 2pks and the Mini Comic wave 2 in hand by this weekend. I’m flabbergasted by this.

Here is a general X-Men observation of mine, dunno if anyone else feels this: every writer tries to put their stamp on the universe by x-panding the roster. So every writer creates 5-10 new mutants, develops them, and then has all but maybe one of them ignored by whoever takes over the title from them ... because said successor has their *own* new characters to introduce. Repeat ad nauseum, until you get Soft-Serve.

Edit: this is inspired by my love of volume two of "New Mutants" and "Academy X." I have seen more of Chuck Cunningham than Winddancer since that book was canceled.
