X-Men '97

Trying to decide if pairing Sunspot with the Dani/Karma/Wolfsbane figure will work - obviously different styles, but I could maybe convince myself the guys had one style and the girls another style, because Art Adams and others did have the guys and girls have different collars/necks. While the old Walgreens is off it is no worse than some of the other "close enough" looks in the line. We'd be a Magma and Sam two-pack (with a Doug head/hands to swap with Sunspot) away from completing the team...

That Gambit is a hilarious choice…but that starting lineup body looks terrible with ML. Reminds me of when Toybiz was reusing TNA wrestling parts for ML.

These modern-day athletic shorts won’t do. This look is the only reason cutoff jorts with a drawstring could ever be necessary.
 
I have thoughts:

Jubilee looks good but it's not the outfit I wanted. I wish she was in her standard look.

Logan's claws look like the cheap, almost translucent white plastic which is unfortunate. I've seen Hasbro do Wolverine's claws really well. Why can't that be, you know, standard?

Cable looks to be a good animated representation.

Emma looks good, she'll be the one we all have to get online tomorrow at 2:30 for lest she sells out.

Kind of indifferent to which outfit Sunspot gets. I don't think those effects represent his power well.

Basketball Gambit's torso is hideous and could have easily worked with ball joints. Rogue's head looks nice but I won't be getting this two pack just for that.

Skull cap Cyclops is exactly what we all envisioned him to be.

Storm: This figure frustrates me sooooooooo much. At first glance she is excellent. But then you stare at her and you realize she is sculpted like a stick figure, which is exactly the opposite of how she was drawn by Cockrum and Byrne. But Hasbro didn't want to give us a curvy female figure. I knew when I saw the cartoon that this figure was getting rereleased. There was a split second when I asked myself if there was any chance that they'd resculpt her but I immediately dismissed it as poppycock.

If I were 14 I would call this wave "mid".

(I only typed all this so I could use the word "poppycock".)

Agreed here. I've been raging endlessly about Hasbro being too cheap to paint accessories. Wolverine's claws and some of the swords in the line, in particular, look like absolute ass in that unpainted greyish-white plastic. Just ick.
 
In the Pulse recap they said FA Storm had some new parts. Looks like both heads are new and she has new arms with double jointed elbows. Her skin tone is also much darker than the first release, and her arm bands are gold instead of black. Looks like she has the same tiny little heeled feet though.
 
Really excited about this drop. X97 got an overwhelming amount of love today and it’s honestly kind of blowing me away. Fingers crossed this isn’t the last release of the year. Still holding out hope for a deluxe Bastion since he was on one of the rumored list.

Jubilee looks fantastic and I’m thinking if these two packs perform well on pulse maybe we’ll get a powered-up Sunspot or her classic yellow-jacketed look down the line. That’s the dream, anyway!

Still can’t believe we got Rogue and Gambit in the premiere looks. I’m hyped about the new Rogue head sculpt and will definitely be doing a swap right away. Curious how she’ll look on the FA Rogue body since that’s pretty much her final battle look.

One thing I’m wondering about is why they went with Morph’s classic look when the rest of the wave is in their finale designs. A version from the final battle would’ve made more sense. Just saying, Hasbro, if you’re listening!

Part of me would love painted wolverine claws. They did them on an SDCC X-Force Wolverine once and they were awesome looking but they were also the thin ones that didn’t ever stay in place.

The other part of me knows that the plastic used for the claws is the same as the plastic for their swords and knives….which really has an incredible way of resisting a bond to all paint I’ve ever encountered.
 
I want that Emma. She looks fantastic.

I also kinda want that Storm and Logan 2 pack. The storm is a decent update on the old one, except for those shitty heels, and the heads aren't amazing, but maybe I'll mess with it a bit of I manage to get one. This brown suit Logan also looks really nice.

Speaking of, the plaid Logan with the coat is very cool, except those awful claws. They look really bad.

Im torn on Cable, Sunspot, and Jubilee. While I like them, I also don't *need* them. I have the old Jubilee in this outfit, and I still really like her. Cable looks a little too small, but maybe that's my eyes. And I wanted the jacket for Roberto. This one is fine, but I'd rather have the jacket look cause this one will probably be redone in comic form.

Black suit Storm is an easy pass. I have the previous one, and I never took it out of the package. I may never, so I don't need this one either. And it's not all that great to me.

I have the previous Cyclops in this suit, too, but this looks like a nice upgrade. I also have one with Phoenix in the package. But I'll probably get this one if I can cause I don't have that Jean outfit, and it looks alot better then the last one, which I didn't buy because I didn't like it.

Sorry to Rogue and Gambit, that Gambit is awful. And I'm not paying for just the Rogue.

Morph I will also preorder tomorrow. Wonderful looking figure. Will replace the VHS one that's in my display now.

Tuxedo Gambit seems like it would have been the logical "best selling" choice to go with over his basketball attire. The Rogue does seem like it has a better head though. I was expecting hoodie sweatsuit Rogue though given the body used for the evil Rogue/Destiny 2pk.

Doubt it. The season 2 looks are the Morrison-inspired costumes from New X-men. So, seeing as the wave is **rumored to be** Wolverine, Scott, Jean, and Rogue (Polaris and Havoc will most likely be in their classic outfits), my guess is they’ll be brand new sculpts based on those designs

I'd assume the Havok / Polaris pack is just a reissue for the X-Factor folks who never got them, but in the event that they ARE a part of S2, wouldn't they likely be in their 90s costumes not the classic ones? Given that's how they were depicted in the shows in both iterations, I'd assume Havok wont be in the black bodysuit and the astrolabe helmet. Granted the 2000's Morrison outfits are supposed to make an appearance but this is all supposed to still be set in '97 isn't it?
 
I would absolutely love to get a 90s Havok on the newer body. The old one has terrible knees. They're like jelly. The figure looks cool af, but those knees are hard to keep him posed for any amount of time.
