Wrestling Toys (Mattel WWE, Jazwares AEW, etc.)

Target had the Legends Greatest Hits sidekick display today. I picked up Dusty and Virgil. Little connection there with those two figures.

The hip sockets appear to be elongated to allow some inward movement. She can touch her heels together. This is quite a development. Can't believe I haven't seen it brought up anywhere else.

If that's an intentional engineering choice - that's a really solid update. I just wish Mattel wasn't so fucking cheap and lazy. I've banged on about this, I know, but I love wrestling figures and it's so depressing that Mattel came out of the gate being like 'we're going to make accurate figures where Undertaker and Rey Mysterio don't share the same body.' And here we are. Where 70% of the women's roster shares the same body, and there's basically 6 male bodies in rotation.

Magic Olmos is my boy, and I can guarantee that was an engineering choice by him.

I almost canceled this one because I thought it was going to have a similar issue as Asuka's figures. I'm pretty sure it's just a tiny bit of extra material removed from the socket, but whatever tweak they did, really helps if you want a basic vanilla standing pose.

Is he who we have to thank for improving the female figures? We desperately need Bianca Belair on a bigger body, I can't believe they made her figures on what looks like the Bella twin body (actually, I can believe it...). But the only non-clearance WWE figs I've bought in years are females, the last Rhea was really nice, I hope we get the Ultimate version from the wrestling ring package soon, the one with the big shoulders. If they make Ultimate Rhea and Ultimate Bianca and they're buff and use the ball joint waist, I'll be in toy fig heaven!

A lot of the recent improvements have come from him, yes. He wanted to do great things with the AEW line, but was a bit handcuffed (fucking Jeremy Padawer). Now you can see what he's capable of. That new Monday Night Wars Austin is him, a lot of the females, etc. Dude is crazy talented.

I like that Stone Cold...but to make a Stone Cold and not give him any fists is certainly a decision! Let's ditch those pointer finger hands, nobody is using those and pretending they're something else.

I got Tiffany Stratton from BBTS. She's great. The paint QC is not great and the painted arms look terrible, but the articulation is just so cool.

It's also a nice touch that you can open the briefcase and fit her extra hands in there! I "popped" (wrestling term) when I figured it out.

Now, let's get Wrestlemania 2000 Trish Stratus on this buck 🫠💸

Reminds me I got my Lola Vice yesterday. Happy with it.

Also found Mercedes Mone at EB, but letting that sit on the desk while I consider if I care at this point about that line. Love AEW. No faith in the toys anymore. She doesn't even have extra hands.

M$M and Ricky Steamboat two pack arrived yesterday from Mattel Creations. Since the MC sale is going on, I decided give up on finding this set at Ollie's. Even with the sale, it's still two times Ollie's $25 price and I just know my store will now have one on the shelf soon.

A couple items I was hoping to get on sale were the Brandy/Cody two pack and Rhea with ring. Rhea was staying full price, but Brandy has so much heat, she managed to sell out an MC two pack at full price before a sale. They never sell out.

I've lost my love for AEW lately. It just can't keep my attention, not sure what it is. It's been fine, for the most part, but overall, AEW has lost the shine that it had when it first debuted. For me, personally.

And as such, my collecting of the line has diminished.

Thus, I have a massive AEW collection sitting in a tote, not seeing light.

I was thinking of unloading quite a bit, but not sure I'll be able to net much off of them. I do have a lot of the chase variants--Ricky Starks in Darby gear, Shawn Spears in the tights in the aqua, masked Brody King, blue Ric Flair Luminaries, biker shorts Mox to name a few.

But again, is it even worth it to ship them out? Not trying to make a fortune, but not trying to lose my ass, either.

Any thoughts?

If you want money and space, sell it, but I'd be surprised if you break even. Better than a dead tote.

I have never really seen actual demand since the first few waves.

Yeah, that's the sad part. I remember there being a time where I definitely could have made a killing.

I actually received a chase Hangman from Ringside few years back (when in all actuality, I wanted the regular figure in the series, so I had no desire to keep this version) and put it up on the bay. I got around 450 off of it--*auction*. I ended up buying the guy a protection case for it to ship in. Because even at that time, I remember thinking "Dude, you're fucking crazy. This is not worth THAT", but if you're willing to slap down that amount of change, I'm giving you the royal treatment.

Now, I see these same chase variants going for slightly above retail, maybe even AT retail. Brandon Cutler, a whole ass chase character, going for retail. That's insane.

Another thing driving my hesitation in continuing to collect the line is the strong rumors about Jazwares losing the license. It feels kind of like a why bother?

I was hyped up in the begining, but took a big loss on loose figures when I was in a general purge the collections mode (I kept the AEW women). Then 12-18 months later, my brother, who's a comic guy, starts getting into AEW figures. Not as a crazy collector, just some very select favorites. I would've rather held onto them and let him take whatever he wanted. I found a decent amount of chases at retail and did well there, but there are bunches being found at Ross. My brother said he bought the Owen Hart chase off eBay for barely over retail.

Since I'm on my third go around with WWE, I did great selling Elites about ten years ago. That worked out great, I made a profit and then bought better versions later on. Although there are a handful without re-releases due to lack of WWE contracts.
